Jini'kali waddled amid the termite mound-towers, black nose twitching. Scratching at a mound, she grunted a bit. "I smell more than termites in there..." Powerful claws started to tear at the walls, pulling dirt and termite spit down around her. Inside, the tiny bugs scrambled like mad, not knowing what this intruder was.

Not far from Jini was the little black ratel, Topas, admiring the female from afar as she...well, ate. He smiled. Around this woman his anger management issues with the world seemed to melt away. She was goregous, her eyes, fur, even to her ears! Everything about this ratel made Topas fall head over heels. He flushed at the thought of them being together.
"Jini and Topas. Topas and Jini. Awwww." he whispered, completely spaced out.

Pulling out a rodent, the female shook it until it was, well, dead. She looked over at Topas, raising an eyebrow at his expression. She shrugged it off, waddling back over. "Small, but it might do for now." She smiled just a bit, setting it down. "Maybe there's another where this one came from." Behind her, the termite mound managed to fall over. Oops..

Topas shook his head. "Huh? What?" was all he said. He was too lost in his little world of fantasy he didn't notice Jini talking to him.
Looking down he saw the little rodent his secret love caught for him. Was this a gift or just a small offering? Topas contemplated. Does she really like as much as he her? Should he test it?
"Uh, don't worry about me, Jini. You can have it." he replied. Wonder what she will say?

A chuckle escaped her throat. "Alright.. Try that mound over there, there might be something in there." Such a gentleman... Er, gentlebadger. Her little tail wagged slightly as she settled down, watching Topas. May as well wait for him to get his food, right?

Topas calmly walked over to the remaining termite mounds and stuck a single claw in it. He then shoved his entire paw in, moving it about hoping to feel something other than billions of small crawling legs of termites on his fur. Suddenly, something large bumped into his paw. Immediately, Topas swung his paw out, the mound shattering as small bugs flew everywhere and some dirt. Among the chaos was a small rodent, smaller than the one Jini caught. The rodent fell to the ground and quickly scurried about as billions of termites fluttered around. Topas lunged it, missed. Lunged again, missed. It was a game of cat and mouse.
Finally he got it cornered between him and a large rock. Topas lunged at it and caught it with his forepaws. Too excited with his catch he forgot about the rock and smashed both heads into it.
Topas laid their motionless for a moment. He stirred and got up, stumbling like a drunkard. In his head was the dead mouse as he wabbled over.
"...Got....it."

The female couldn't help laughing a bit. "You should try a bit bigger next time..." She finished her meal, rising up. "Perhaps we can find a leftover kill or something near by... It'd be a feast, that's for sure." A smile remained upon her pail maw. "What do you say?"

Quickly devouring his food, slurping the tail, he nodded. "Sure, mind leadin' the way, lassy?" he agreed. She knew more about this place than he himself. WHy she was more of a male than he was....to an extent.
"Wonder what we'll find, hopefully something much more filling than these rodents."

Waddling along, the female nodded. "I hope so..." Her nose turned into the wind, inhaling deeply. Closing her eyes, she allowed the scents to paint her a picture of the lands around. She smelled the scent of a kill, and it made her mouth water a bit. "This way, then." She turned, hurrying as fast as her legs allowed her into the grasses and towards food.

Topas flinched and quickly followed after. It was intresting following behind a female he closely admired. It's been a while since the two met and he already was falling for her.
Wonder if she feels the same for me.....maybe I should ask her? ...Nah, not yet.

The female laughed lightly, slowing down. "You havin' a hard time keepin' up back there?" Amusement glimmered in her green eyes, and possibly more. She turned her nose back into the wind, following the scent of blood at a more manageable pace. As her paws drew nearer, she spied what it was. A dead... Elephant?! Now that didn't look right...
Climbing upon the dead beast a bit, she noticed that the tusks were gone and there were small holes in its skull and sides. If she'd know what a human and a poacher were, she'd have been able to make the connection. She sat down, brow furrowed. What could have done this to something so big that commanded such majesty as the elephant?

"COR BLIMEY!" Tops shouted as they reached the large, and very dead, animal. The elephant was surely dead, odd that no other scavenger has gotten before the two honey badgers. "Jini, do ya know what happened here?" he asked.
What possible creature could possible take down such massive creature. Topas vaguely remember Jamaa, his friend, saying something about a creature that attacked in groups that usually took things from a animal and leaving the rest to rot....but what did he call it?
"....a two-legger?"

"Whatever did it... I don't like it..." She eyed the elephant, then spied a bird trembling in a tree near by. Sliding down and leaving clawmarks in the process, she went over to the tree, looking up. "Hey, you! What killed the elephant?"
The little bird peeked from its hiding place, regarding the two honey badgers. "Don't you know? Humans did it. They come all the time to kill the elephants and rhinos and steal their tusks and horns to sell in their markets. Only the ones in the stick villages respect things around here anymore..." With a sigh, the bird spread its wings out and took flight, leaving the ratels and elephant behind.
Hoo-mon..? "What the hell's a hoo-mon?" She sat down, brow furrowing. Her gaze turned back to the elephant, watching it. Indeed, no other scavangers had come to it. In fact, the tracks around it looked fresh. Real fresh... It worried her a bit.

"Jini, maybe we should get outta here." he whispered to his female companion, head moving constantly. These fresh tracks were very supicious. These 'humans' can be nearby and possible looking for a pair of ratel pelts. The thought sent shivers down his body.
"Jini, these humans can still be around. Maybe we should get outta here." he said worried for himself and her. His deep violet eyes stared at every single object that moved, animals to a single blade of grass. The dark ratel's nose raised to the air and the ground. This wasn't the best idea....
"Jini...."

"Yeah..." She turned, hurrying away. "I don't like the smell hangin' around, and I don't like the idea of things that kill for what an animal has on it alone." Jini glanced back at Topas. "Come on, let's get FAR away from here. Maybe there's a zebra or somethin' around we can eat off of instead." It was safe to say, the humans bothered her, even when they weren't there.
