He knows the ebb and flow of herd migrations, where water can be found, and other useful things. He also has a way with kids.Personality: Nuri has always looked to the stars, using them to navigate over long distances and as fodder for legends and stories. His own form of charisma comes from a love of the cubs, his story telling, and offhand jokes. If he had known a shaman growing up he would probably have made a great apprentice, his curiosity and spirituality strong.History: From a young age, Nuri was left to fend for himself. He remembers no parents, no pride. For all he knows he was born directly from the earth. Or a giraffe. Early on, he stayed near the prides and sometimes tried to interact with other cubs. As he grew older however, he was forced to move on. Most recently he moved on to the fringes of the desert where food and water are scarce. It was a meager living, but he survived and came to know and understand much about himself and the ways of life.
As he landed into the prime of his life, he encountered a young lion whose desire to create a new pride intersected with his own desire to find water as he wandered upon Ling's newly-established territory. What began as a tense first meeting budded into a curious relationship that ended with Nuri becoming his Advisor despite the elder's warning that he may not stay forever...
When Ling's new queen gave birth to a litter of kittens including ones that looked distinctly like Nuri, the latter began to feel restless again. The pregnancy had been accidental, but a small betrayal had been made. Even though he had begun to grow attached to another lioness named Pastel, and they too had a litter, Nuri felt that he could not stay much longer.
And besides, wanderlust had taken hold of him once more. So he left.
And was followed... by a son and two daughters: Ivory, his sister Clover, and Xia's daughter Orli, who knew that if she had stayed she could never be queen.- - -Kittens! Otieno (m) Li hua , Orli, and Lotus, (f) respectively. Clover (f) Velvet (f) Ivory (m)

He has been perfectly proportioned at all stages of his life, except that compared to many, he has been and always will be 'the runt.' As a result, he has grown up with a Napoleon (short-man's) complex, and tends to over-compensate. In everything he does, he is a perfectionist and uncomplaining (especially if any orders come directly from Genn). Unfortunately, he has mild schizophrenia and is at times easily distracted. Sometimes the auditory and visual hallucinations get a little much, however, there seems to be a level of sensitivity he shares with his environment that may be linked to this. And all because of a bump on the head...History: Genn found Otieno wandering aimlessly through the forest, delusional and half-conscious. The cub had partial amnesia, encompassing where he was from, who his family were, and how he had gotten to where he was. All he remembered (and continues to remember) was his name.
Unfortunately, Otieno's unexplainable (probably trauma-related) phobia of the color pink made his stay with the elder lion nearly unbearable. Genn had chosen a pink female for his mate, and by the time Otieno had reached adulthood had sired a litter of green-and-pink cubs. Once he stole away with Malor, Angelina's green son, in an effort to save him from some perceived doom. The cub was eventually recovered, and only succeeded in ruining a possible friendship with young Malor.
Unable to bear live in the Forest Frolic any longer (especially since a pink cub or two enjoyed pestering him and bullying him), the young lion left the only pride he remembered ever calling home...and Genn, his adoptive brother.

That is his goal in life, to be a king with his own lands and a strong legion of trustworthy lions behind him. He knows that this dream is unlikely unless he can find suitable lands, but the dream is ever at the back of his mind. He carries himself with an air of royalty, and likes to think of himself the best... at everything. Though this may seem shallow and unreasonable, he nevertheless always strives to better himself in every way he can. For those around him this may come across as silly or as a real moral booster... as he has had little chance to prove himself as a leader, who knows how it will develop.History: Starlight grew up with big dreams and a small group with which to feed it. All the lions in his group were cubs; who knows where the parents had gone, and this left Starlight to do as he pleased, which included proclaiming himself as future king. Wherever they might land. Once they had grown up.
Sadly, reality often dashes big plans for the future to pieces, as with this little band. About all he has to show for it is his daughter (one of a pair), Auralite, and memories. Who knows what happened... he refuses to speak of it, or Sunriser, or anyone else. Failure is not an option, and as he is always looking ahead in life, the past has fallen into distant memory.
How wonderful it would be if we could all leave the past behind and turn with single-minded determination...Kittens! Stratus (m) and Auralite (f), respectively.

Perhaps... with a little luck, and encouragement from her father... she might still become a real queen, besides just in her father's eyes.

She could be a peacemaker or ruler but she has no such goals, few ambitions at all, for she is carefree and playful as well. She would rather wander the world with her father than settle down and take on responsibilities. If she had her own cubs, she would probably drag their newborn selves all over creation. With her speedy mind is her speedy body, and she loves to rough-house and play any game available. She will probably remain generally kittenish in this way for as long as her joints hold out.History: Clover was never raised with the hope of ascending the throne, so to speak. Instead, she was given the carefree life of a harem child. Ling's harem, but not Ling's child that is. She has always found this fact, and the truth of Orli's blood, more amusing than she should, perhaps. Their roles were always a luck of the "draw," so to speak...Orli with such responsibility and Clover with none.
When their father left, Clover naturally went with him. She saw no other possibilities. Her mother would have wanted to stay, she reasoned, which would never have been good enough for Clover. Her heart and mind soared like a bird, and so she flew...

He believes Ling was a weak king for allowing one of his subjects impregnate two females right under his nose. On the same coin, he regards his father highly for his ability to do so... even while he has his faults such as lacking enough ambition to fight the king and win the position for himself. Come to think of it, would he have gone to the trouble of killing off Ling's line afterward..? No matter, as this is Ivory's job. He enjoys the kill and would not mind the chance to kill another lion. He views this as his job, a sort of protector for his more spiritual father. He should have been a shaman... Ivory, while vicious in many ways, is loyal to his father almost to a fault. Being this way is advantageous in every way, and were he to actually become a king himself one day, he believes ("knows") that Nuri would be no threat to him. His silence on the killing field carries over to his speech; he is a lion of few words though he could write volumes.History: As mentioned before, Ivory never had a high regard for his king. Even as a cub he was smart enough to see what had been going on around him. Certainly, palace intrigue was just that - intriguing, but he eventually had a low enough esteem for Ling that he left when Nuri did, even at such a tender age. To hell with Mother; she always took things so personally. Why could she not simply realize that males are males, and that Nuri is, was, and always shall be a wanderer. For all Ivory knew, that was the actual meaning of his father's name. And so he follows Nuri, wondering if perhaps he will beat Orli to reign somewhere. Or perhaps he will make her his queen...

Now perhaps he does not need any ego-stroking, but she helps him to look forward and at the light side of life. So bad things happen; they balance out the good. The good things are what she prefers to focus on, and tries to show him as often as possible, however annoyingly tunnel-visioned he can be. After all, to focus on the past is to see one's pain; to look at the present is to see the beauty of life and all that is around you; and to look forward is to see endless possibilities and a hope to one day see that future one so desperately strives for.History: Always the "daddy's girl," Auralite has always followed Starlight on his adventures to be the best lion...at whatever it is he wants to be best at.
