How's about more where that came from?
TP - Meteaura Roman - Meteola Kana - Meteoora Jin's thoughts - First I tried to remember his/her name (*went for Meteura*) >_> But it was even worse than that! HOW did TP get MeteAURA from MeteOORA? ... Ok, so in English I guess (and I guess people, Karill I need you), "oora" must sound close to aura... but... blargh. *sigh* Standard long "o" and "r or l" issue, nothing special. *takes up an ice pick and goes to hack on TP*
TP - Tintlet Roman - Tintoretto Kana - Tintoretto Jin's thoughts - XDD Who in here knew that there was a Italain High Renaissance painter who called HIMself Tintoretto? True, the o on the end makes it sound Italian... and male (ex: Raphaello). ^^;; But if you go by sound (all "r" turning "l") then it's just what TP uses... Tintlet. XD And if you wanna go back onto languages... Tintlette! Now it sounds like a French female name. ^^
TP - Ringleys Roman - Ringlease Kana - Ringuriisu Jin's thoughts - XD Anyone reminded of the word "release"? Hee hee. ^^ Nothing special, sound works with both spellings.
TP - Nohiro Roman - Nohiro Kanji - Spacious field/plains Jin's thoughts - ^^ Nohiro was actually meant to appear in another manga but he went from normal student teenager to odd teenager without a past who isn't really human. ^^ What a jump! Well, no question about the name, it's impossible to spell any other way, even for TP. And the kanji is what his name means.
TP - Miyabi Roman - Miyabi Kanji - Graceful/elegant/refined Jin's thoughts - Nothing here either, another kanji name.
TP - Hanakusuku Roman - Hanakusuku Kanji - Flower castle Jin's thoughts - ^^ Her name is too pretty.
TP - Shian Roman - Sian Kanji - Auspicious/happiness/good omen Jin's thoughts - ^^ Wow, Nohiro's surrounded by good things. >w> But since the "good omen" died... ^^;; No, we aren't going to make cruel jokes on Shian, her death and her name. Mineko Ohkami wrote her name as Sian, why? Some Japanese mangaka (manga artist) takes away the "h" in "shi" when writing it in romanji. No idea why.
TP - Silk Roman - Silk Kana - Shiruku Jin's thoughts - Nothing special, direct translation, cutting the u's on both "ru" and "ku" because they lack single letters and transforming "r" to "l".
TP - Lim Kaana Roman - Rim Carna Kana - Rimu Kaana Jin's thoughts - Kiiill meee! >.< It buuurns! *doesn't wanna see TP's version of the name* (Mostly because, in Swedish, "lim" means glue!) ^^;;; Eheh, anyway. Japanese doesn't have a c, at all, so c and k are interchangeable there but... >>;; Where did she get the "r" from?? *prays that it is a misspelling* Vote for Rim Kaana! Down with the glue! *waves a little flag*
TP - Kitchel Roman - Kichel Kana - Kichieru Jin's thoughts - TP has done great here. Why? In Japanese, the letter "chi" sounds like "tchi" when pronounced. And the "e" after that is small, making it "che", so TP, for the readers' ease, put in the invisible "t".
TP - Reema Roman - Rima Kana/kanji - Riima Jin's thoughts - The prolonged "i" here makes it, I guess, sound so much like "e" in Enlgish that TP made it Reema instead of Riima/Rima. In both Swedish and Japanese there's a rather big difference between "i" and "e" when spoken. What about the kanji? The "ma" is actually a kanji meaning "evil/wicked". ^^
TP - Duma Roman - Duma Kana - Deyuma Jin's thoughts - Haha, right now, Deyuma sounds rather funny. The "yu" in here is small and placed together with the "de" it forms the letter "du". >IP Because Japanese doesn'thave "du" or "tu", only "tsu" and "zu". ^^; And the same goes here as it does for Rima, the "ma" is the kanji "evil/wicked".
TP - Pyore Roman - Pure Kana - Piyua Jin's thoughts - XD Haha! This name I would never have been able to make out on my own, lucky I had someone else to fall back on. ^^; How the hell did TP get Pyua to Pyore? No, I did not justloose the "i" there. The "yu" in Piyu is small, making "piyu" into "pyu", easy huh? ^^
TP - Kuon Shiina Roman - Sheena Kuon Kana/kanji - Distant old story Shiina Jin's thoughts - Ah, and now to one of themost interesting, name-wise, character, Kuon Shiina. The Kuon in her name is written with two kanji, which means "ku - old story/long time" and "on - distant/far". I did an as good translation as I could, because when it comes to kanji names it doesn't look good, or make sense sometimes, to just pile up the meanings of the kanji. And Shiina was written in katakana, making this name realy funny and odd, seeing as you don't usually even mix kanji and hiragana in a name,muchless kanji and katakana. Shiina has been translated into Sheena, and vice versa, in several places. It's a common name, even Japanese people can be named Shiina. But all in all, Kuon Shiina makes for a really pretty, if not sad, name. ^^ However, I do notknow why Ohkami wrote it Sheena Kuon in her romanji but Kuon Shiina in her kana and kanji, it's like Shiina would be the first name and Kuon the last name, which Pyore said that it wasn't in the vol the Knights met her.
TP - Master Roman - Master Kana - Masutaa Jin's thoughts - ^^ The guy that so seldom appears but is worthy of our love. XD;; The ever mysterious Master! ^^;;; One of those without a name. But at least he has something people call him and not just a title. ^^;;;; The long "a" on the end is to make the word just that... longer, make it sound like master instead of the car brand Mazda. XDD Hahaha!
TP - Ghost Roman - xxx Kanji - Tou no Tairiku no yuurei Jin's thoughts - ^^;; Another poor guy who actually doesn't have a name. What the Japanese says is "ghost of the eastern continent", aka Arinas. (random info) Actually, in the manga Dusis and Arinas aren't spelled in katakana signalling that they're non-Japanese words, they're named "western continent" and "eastern continent", but they're CALLED Dusis and Arinas. ^^; It's complicated. *could define but not here* But this is Ghost, short and nice XD;, who helps Kitchel!

And we continue! Getting bored? Tired? ^^;;
TP - xxx Roman - xxx Kanji - ... ^^;;;;; You know... one kanji can have MANY ways to pronounce it Jin's thoughts - Not much info give, eh? So who is this? Volume 5, beginning. Remember the small stoneware shop Kitchel and Thats went to to get the last piece of the map? That dark haired girl in there who warned them about Ekidonna... this is her. ^^;; She doesn't have a name, just a title, which means, right upside-down, the girl of the little stone craft shop. I say stoneware and it might be.... wrong? But it beats saying stone craft, it doesn't sounds as... understandable. Anyway, the girl from the little shop dealing with the craft of... making things out of stone? Better? XD;
TP - Eucild (aaagh! T-T;; *borrowed her vol 1 and 2 to a friend and has forgotten how TP spelled his name*) Roman - Euclid Kana/kanji - Yuukuriddo-ouji Jin's thoughts - ^^;;; Looks like Euclid, don't it? *kidding* No, here it's purely based on sound. It must just have sounded better with a long "yu" instead of "eu". ^^ And the Ouji? In kanji and means prince, or, literar, king child. Always, in Japanese, when someone is royal they get a title after their name.
TP - Melnini Roman - Melnini Kana/kanji - Meruniini-hime Jin's thoughts - Prolonged "i",nothing special otherwise. ^^ Hime means princess. No s**t. And as I said abovem royalties get titles to accompany their names...However (more random facts), when it comes to Japanese names; in the past, when a girl was of noble blood (not necessarily a princess) they could get the title "hime" on the end of their names too, but sometimes it was a different kanji, makingit word not princess but a very fine/refined lady, someone worthy of respect.
TP - xxx Roman - xxx Kana/kanji - Rimune no uranaishi Jin's thoughts - Rimune stands in katakana, just look for the city on the map. ^^ Whole title translates to the Fortune-teller of Rimune. Remember the fortune-teller that Rath and Cesia went to during the episode of Bertha's Curse? That's her.
TP - Tupet Roman - Tuepet Kana - Tsuupetto Jin's thoughts - Funny... where did the "e" come from, Ohkami-san? XD; Anyway, this is Tupet, the granddaughter to the Rimune fortune-teller, the lil girlie who had a crush on Rath. Take away the "s" in "tsu" and you got it closer to Tupet's name. Anyway, TP did a good job on this too,butit was a rather simple name so...
Random input start @__@ Aargh! Arms are starting to ache. *goes on typing anyway* -_-;; Random input end
TP - Gil Roman - Gill Kana - Giru Jin's thoughts - @_@ Ah! Everybodies' favorite abused and molested cat with suicide wishes... well, he had. Nothing much to say, moving on.
TP - Heaven's Star Princess Roman - xxx Kanji - Ten no Hoshi-hime Jin's thoughts - @_@ Nothing much, kanji and direct translation. Girl has no name. XD;
TP - Grinfish Roman - Grinfish Kana - Gurinfuisshu Jin's thoughts - @__@ Oooh, how fair. The powerfulprincess goes unnamed but her grinning bodyguard gets one. Niiiice. XD; Nothing much, small "i" in the "fui" which makes it "fi". Ta da!
TP - Barl Roman - Barl Kana - Baaru Jin's thoughts - XD Anyone up for a trip to the bar? Heheh. Nothing here, moving on to something extremely much funnier. XDD
TP - Fiji Roman - Feasy Kana - Fuiiji Jin's thoughts - XDDD Hee hee hee. *always laughs when she sees the way Mineko Ohkami has written Fiji's name. XD;;;; Ok, ok. XD; Same as in Grinfish, "fui" with a small "i" becomes "fi". You starting to catch on with the pattern now? XDDD Feasy, hee hee. Oh, and wherever Ohkami got the "sy" from when it clearly reads "ji" at the end, I don't know.
TP - Kharl Roman - Karl Kana - Kaaru Jin's thoughts - ^^ Due to the long "a" in here TP placed an h into the name,but the long "a" can also serve to make to "r" in "ru" be seen as both l and r, which, in this case, is needed to get Karl. ^^ Hoho, that's the way the Swedish (perhaps Scandinavian) form of the name is spelled too. XD Kharl's Scandinavian! XD;; Ahem. ^^; XD Oh! Next one is great!
TP - Garfakcy Roman - Galfacsy Kana - Garufuakushii Jin's thoughts - XDDD Nice huh?? Hee hee. See, in Japanese (Swedish too) c and s are interchangeable in sound, just go back and look at Cesia. ^^ But at the same time, in Japanese when it wants a word to look more English or western in general, c and k are interchangeable. ^^ And the "r" just became "l" according to that lil rule (you know the drill with it). XD So how about Galfacsy anyone? Heehee. Oh, and small "a" makes "fua" into "fa", 'nough said.
>=P And the rest come later! XD; *leaves and goes up to the window to smell the wonderfully fresh 5 am morning air* Woooonder-- O__O It has rained!! heart heart heart XD;;; X3 *so happy* It smells so much fresher then! And mixed with the smell of sakura trees (we have about a dozen standing on a row outside my and the kitchen windows) it smells heavenly.......... I could go OUT. *drools while sniffing air* XD;;;

sweatdrop .................................................. Whoa, so much information, yet so many things I did not know. That was really interesting. For a moment, I thought you were going to explain about what do those names mean, but I didn't expect the translation and what's the difference between it. I've learned so much from you. Oy, sooner or later, I get a bad feeling that you'll going to get every charecter from the DK manga such as Mr. Death Dice or Mr. Goh. XD XD XD

=D Why thank you! Mr. Goh? Is that Mr. Gow you're talking about? The "Bad Fairy"? XD;;;; I could take in them all actually. >.> And there isn't so much to translate if the names means nothing. XD;; Well, Nohiro and his waterlights and some more people's anmes mean things, but otherwise... ^^ Thank you, I had fun.

Um, this might seem slightly random, but I like randomly trying to figure out what the names -might- mean. Some seem like you could logically connect them ("Rath", for example--Japanese-ish translations aside), and some are somewhat (though unintentionally, I'm sure) translate-able into other languages.
The one that always sticks in my mind is Raseleane, which can be translated into French, as it can be broken up into the three "Rase", "le", and "ane". However, the outcome is far from satisfactory (but also hilarious), as any of you that know a bit of French will realize. That is, "Rase-le-ane" listerally means "Shave-the(that)-a**". (a**, here, can be translated into "donkey" or the slang interpretation we use more commonly.) Grammatically, it would be more like "rase l'ane", but visually speaking, it doesn't look quite right. Besides that fact, "ane" is masculine to begin with, so I think with some artistic license, we can ignore that.
Uh, I'm sorry if that was totally off-topic, but I've been wanting to share that one... xd

So Karl just means 'man'? How boring (And this is coming from the person who's favorite character is Kharl. xd ) Hmm. I need to ask my Latin speaking friend if Avis Rara means anything. Well, I know 'avis' means 'bird'.

Germanic? o.O; Well, it's not like I study languages.
But I wouldn't really say it's feminine. *shrugs*
And yes, Tokyopop is evil for ruining his pseudonym.

Well, it's feminine nonetheless. ^^ So you could name your daughter Avis (if you ever have a child, adopted or naturally).

*laugh* Names! ... which some of them sounds horrible when pronounced in English. =P We're lucky we speak Swedish, eh, sis? So we don't possibly mutilate the characters' names when saying them?
