He doesn't anymore... he says, "That game promotes witchcraft! You'll get posessed by Satan!" *Sigh*
I'm not arguing with his Christianity. In fact, though I don't consider myself saved, he is right about his beleifs. But I don't see how D&D is Satanic.

My mother is a teacher at a private Lutheran School. She does not play AD&D, but says that it promotes good math skills, creative thinking and fosters an interest in reading.
I tend to agree with her.

I've never had that problem, so I don't know how I could help you. I'd say just leave him out of it and don't make a big deal of things.

Why is it that all the parents I know that use to play it. Stop and end up saying it promotes this and that. If it did such things. Then why did they play it to begin with?

I am a very religous person my self and I have found nothing wrong with it. Really now that I come to think about it my pastor plays it. You can take this one of two ways that our church is a cult or it really isnt all that bad of a game. Encorage him to play again. If he doesn't want to play becomes of dieties take those and clerics out of the game.

sorry about this. but stupid fundementalists, dnd doesn't convert us to be satans children. i've had teachers that way, and they never had a good enough answer to how does it convert me to worship the devil of their religion again? generally the same people who claim dnd does this are the same people who want you to shut up, convert and not question their religions holes.

If you try to hard to convert him he'll throw out all your stuff and call an exorcist.

When I have children I'm teaching them D&D as soon as they can read.
We had this problem in school when we started a D&D club. They thought we were a cult. We have our club now and everything seems fine.

if you get the chance you can scare him by surrounding his bed with lit black candles and start praying in an evil tone while holding a knife

My dad used to play and continues to. He taught myself, my older brother and my two half brothers when they were 8 and 6 years old. My whole family dungeons together actually. I think D&D promotes imagination, math skills and problem solving, plus it's the geek form of partying in many ways.
And while my dad and family aren't hard core with our religion, except kinda with my born-again older brother, I have heard of people who do get WAY too into D&D. I find the best way to dispel people thinking I'm a satanist for playing is to invite them to a game. When they see how it's more like a study group than a religious ceremony they get off my back ... assuming I can get them to go. If people aren't interested in D&D I don't force it on them, but I don't stand for them accusing me and the game of being something it's not.
