Kayne's steps were light as he walked through the cool evening air. Friday had come at long last. He was anxious to get back to his lessons and even more so to spend some time alone with Jess. When arrived at the dojo, he quickly kicked off his shoes at the door and hopped in the open door.
"Sensei...." he started, then stopped. She wasn't there. Glancing around to be sure, he shrugged and went to the storage room that had already been unlocked. He quickly pulled out the mats and laid them out on the wooden floor. Glancing around again he walked back out by the door and grabbed his pack of cigarettes out of his pocket. Quickly pulling one out and lighting it up, Kayne leaned back against the wall of the dojo and looked up to the stars. They were really very pretty tonight he thought as he breathed out a long stream of white smoke.

Jess was late and irritated. The guidance meeting had overrun meaning she was late to get changed and late for practice. Hurrying into the dojo she noticed the mats were out but there was no sign of Kayne. It was only as the dissapointment his her that she realised how much she had been waiting for this practice.
Smelling the cigarette smoke she perked up a little and started warming up in the middle of the mat. "Oi, Shaidey. Get your arse in here!" She called sliding down into the splits and bending forwards.

At the familiar shout, Kayne smiled and pushed himself away from the wall. With one last puff, he thew the cigarette down to the ground and hopped around the corner and into the dojo to be greeted with a rather nice sight. He had seen Jess down in the splits many times before, but the sight illicited a smirk and raised brow.
"Oi, Sensei. Punctuality just isn't in your vocabulary is it?" he asked moving around to sit down in front of her, starting his own warm up.

"Oh it's in mine." She said touching her knee with her head. "Just not the tossers that order me around." Shaking her head in irritation she stood and finished off her stretches. She wasn't really in the mood for messing around at the moment, she wasn't sure why but the day at the archery range had her annoyed already and the departmental crap just pushed her over the edge.
"Wanna trya bit of sparring?" She asked shaking out her feet and glaring down at him.

Kayne watched Jess out of the corner of his eye. She was definitely in an irritable mood this evening. He grinned but hid it as he bent over to keep stretching. At her question he looked up with a bit of concern in his eyes. He'd been out of the dojo for a few weeks. There was no way she could be serious, but the hostile look in her eyes told him otherwise.
"Um... sure," he said eyeing her as he stood up. He wondered what had gotten her so worked up this time.

"O.k." She said rolling her shoulders and walking to the edge of the mat. "We'll take it slow. Use the moves you learned in practice, but put them all together."
Closing her eyes she took a breath and walked forward a few steps. She was annoyed with him but she couldn't figure out why. "Right." She sighed taking up her position. "Slow, remember. Don't push yourself."

Kayne shook his nerves out. She wouldn't do anything to hurt him. She wasn't that careless. He nodded at her advice and took a deep breath as he set himself up in his starting position. He let his eyes sweep over her once before he trained them on her green ones.
"Ready," he said with a slight nod.

Jess set him up with a few easy ones light punches a couple of kicks, all of which he dealt with fine. Speeding up a little to test him she decided to test his coordination with conversation. If he could block her without thinking then he was doing good. "So, how was your dinner the other night?" She asked pleasantly.

Kayne was concentrating on feeling out her rythmn and relieved to know that he had not lost much of what he had learned. At her question he blinked and she landed a punch into his shoulder. Frowning he continued to block a little irked that he had let himself get distracted.
"It was alright," he said trying to concentrate again.

Jess ignored the blow to his shoulder and continued. "Only alright?" She asked between breaths moving in for a kick which he blocked successfully. "Left over homecooked food? Beats the canteen right?" She jumped back as her tried a low kick on her, moving forwards again with a side punch which he also managed to dodge.

"Well... it was good," he breathed working hard to keep up. "Her roommate... is a good cook." He threw a punch which she deflected easily. "Is something the matter Jess?" he asked with a frown and flicking his eyes up to hers.

Heh, so the roommate was the cook. Figured. The little princess probably had people to cook for her. Flicking her eyes back up to Kayne's she lunged forwards and tripped him hard onto his back. "Wrong?" She said standing and pacing to the end of the mat. "Why would there be something wrong."
She stretched her arms up above her head and turned back to face him. "Get up and we'll go over kicks again."

Kayne was unprepared for the trip and landed flat on his back, hard. Wincing at the twinge of pain from his healed but still tender rib Kayne took a minute to get his breath back, keeping an eye on her through slitted lids. Slowly picking himself up, resisting the urge to put a hand over his side, he rose to his feet.
"You just seem... a bit on edge this evening," he said taking a deep breath.

Jess shrugged and took up position, waving him to stand opposite her ready to mirror. "I'm just pissed off. Ignore me." She said waiting for him to join her before she began working through the moves with him.

Frowning a bit Kayne mirrored her carefully trying to think of what could possibly have gotten her pissed off. Giving up on trying to guess Kayne took a deep breath and let it out in a whoosh as he kicked out.
"Then what's got you pissed off then?" he asked.
