 Obsidian was sitting indian style on one of the many benches around campus. The shade of the tree she was sitting under felt good on this warm day. Looking up from her book she ran a hand through her long black hair. The many students milling around on the campus lawns really held no interest for her, though she couldn't help but feel lonely. Something that her outburst in the gym earlier in the week had proven. She had had no one to talk to but Ms. Montecelli, and she had always been wary of adults. Watching some girls sitting on a blanket laughing she sighed lightly and looked back down to her book.

 Though one boy must have caught her attention. Striking features and bright red hair danced about the court yard. Ok so he grabbed a lot of attention but he honestly didn't care.
Thanks to his roommate he really was considering ice skating again and was working out a routine to music that played from the ipod attached to his hip. He even hummed the song as he stepped here and there.
At first everyone laughed, thinking it was just a funny student. At least until one recognized him as he and his sister were becoming a bit more famous at the school after the first wave of gossip hit.
Though all good things come to an end, and Nikolai stopped short to look at his ipod. "Ah no! Damn...." The batteries died....

Bright red hair had drawn Obie's eyes from her page again. She watched the bright haired boy dance around, intrigued by his boldness to do something that seemed so silly in front of so many pairs of eyes. When he drew nearer, she dropped her eyes back down to her book, only to glance back up at his exclamation.
"What happened?" she asked then blushed immediately. She was not one to be so nosey.

He paushed and glanced up curiosuly before looking around for the one that had spoke to him. It didn't take him long to notice the girl, blushing a bit himself. "Battery dead." he said as he lifted his ipod from his hip clip to show it to the girl.
"No matter.... tired of practice ...." Waving it off he moved to sit right down next to her, smiling a bit. "I am Nikolai Kotov. You are?"

Obie blinked in surprise when he sat down next to her and studied him for a moment. His hair was really an interesting shade of red and he seemed to be an athlete of some sort. Overall, she had to admit to herself that he was pretty good looking. Blushing again she looked down at her book and closed it over her finger to mark her page.
"Obsidian Williams," she introduced herself. "What were you practicing exactly?" she asked with a small puzzled look on her face.

He cocked his head to the side as he listened to her question, blinking a bit and then smileing. "I practice for ice skating. My sister and I being champions. I make new routine and practice. Though... I still need new partner. My sister no longer can skate." He explained, shrugging a bit. "But she says she wants to support me in skate again."

"Ice skating?" Obie repeated and thought about that for a moment. Being from Texas, ice skating had never really been an option for her, but it had been one of her favorite sports to watch in the Olympics. One of the very few things she and her sister could agree on.
"Why do you have to have a partner? Couldn't you do it solo?" she asked, genuinely curious.

"Baah" he shook his head, making a small face. "no guy alone. Always with a partner. A woman partner. My sister and I used to skate, almost in olypmics." he chuckled a bit. "I show you dvd but..' He made hand gesture to where they were. "No tv." He chuckled a bit.
"What you do for fun?" He asked, cocking his head once more to the side.

Obie laughed. The combination of his Slavic accent, broken English, and animated face and gestures amused her. At his question, she shrugged and looked down at the book in her hands.
"Nothing as interesting as ice skating. I'm a bit of a bookworm and workaholic. I'm actually one of those weird kids who likes to study," she smiled sardonically.
"You and your sister were really almost in the Olympics?" she asked, truly impressed.

He nodded, "Mmm. We were to be the Russian couple, and she the womans free skate. But she had a bad knee accident and no longer can skate. She does on rare occassion... But shouldn't."
Leaning over a bit he tried to catch the title of the book curiously. "I be parcticing again... Xio, my roommate laughs at me. I come home like someone beat me up. Many bruises from falls to ice."

Obie listened with interest, frowning a bit in sympathy to the part about his sister. She seemed truly dedicated, she thought. She noticed that he was glancing down at the book in her hand and she tilted it a bit so he could see the title properly. It was one of her favorites, "Forests of the Heart".
"It sounds like a very brutal sport," she said softly.

He laughed a bit and shook his head. "Not brutal. Very... " he frowned a bit, unsure of the word but moved his fingers as if they were dancing on air. "That." Laughing he shrugged a bit and sat back.
"I will let you read again... I don't want to be a pest." Chuckling a bit he stood up, flashing another smile.

Obie laughed again at his substitution for his loss of the right word and tried to think of what he had meant. When he stood to leave she reached out and lightly touched his hand. Blushing furiously, she dropped her hand down to her lap and looked down at the book again.
"You don't have to leave. You're not being a pest," she said then slowly looked up to his golden eyes. "I can read anytime. How often do I get the chance to talk to a near Olympic champ?" she asked with another small smile.

He blinked a bit in shock, but a smile soon spread on his face. "Mmm. We go to dorm and I show you dvd." he said proudly, just loving to show that DVD off even to the most uninterested people like Xio. He extended his hand to her, offering it to help her up. "Come, come... I do no harm." He said with a small chuckle. "But my roomate.. He a little..." Another gesture was made with his free hand, one implying Xio was weird.

Obie hesitated a moment before she untucked her legs from underneath herself and lightly placed her hand in his to pull herself up to her feet. She was intrigued by his offer and smiled at his description of his roommate.
"I'm sure he's not that bad," she smiled lightly.
