Nkechi loped along the borders of the graveyard, the sun setting in a canvas of orange in the distance. The buzz of beetles and dragonflies filled the air and crickets soon joined the song. She couldn't help but smile as she walked. It was so much nicer on the border compared to the heart of the boneyard. She had never liked the shadows and bones and with each passing day she wanted to wander farther and farther out into the word but...she was afraid to do it by herself. Somehow that fear held her back. So for now, she sat back on her haunces and looked at the fading sunlight fondly.

Mweko paused, her glossy red coat gleaming as it reflected against the powerful rays of the setting sun. She looked distastefully towards the horizon, thinking in dread that night was nearly among the lands, and soon, the powerful animals of the jungle would arise, searching hungrily for a snack. How she dreaded the thought, the thought of she herself being the prey, instead of the so-often Gazelle victim she would come across every now and again. The thought of it sent shivers down her slender spine, and instead she tasted the air for the scent of prey. Nothing. The small female Cheetah let out a dreadful sigh. Yet another night would come without any food.
Mweko squinted her good eye in the direction of the sun once more, hoping to catch sight of prey. Instead, she saw the shadowed frame of another Cheetah loping a distance ahead. Mweko's blood ran cold. She let go of whatever dignity the young, nervous Cheetah still had and collapsed on the Savannah floor, trying to stay as still as she would if she had been stalking prey. Perhaps, she hoped with sarcasm in her eyes, the other Cheetah might move on.

The lionness smiled as a small breeze blew in her face. A small scent was carried by it, one that was unfamiliar to her. She blinked her emerald eyes slightly and tilted her head to the side. Was someone out there? She tore her eyes from the sky and looked around. In the distance she thought she saw a shape but...she wasn't sure. So, she decided to check it out. It didn't smell like a hyena or anything...so she wasn't scared. If it had she probably would have raced back to the heart of the graveyard, being easily scared as she was. But for some reason she had a great trust for lions and those who smelled like them, so this wasn't hard. As she drew near the called out, "Hello...?"

Mweko's eyes filled with dread as the creature approached her. It was a lionness! She had never seen a lion harm a Cheetah before, but so often had she heard the rumors of their abuse towards the smaller, swifter creatures. She could outrun her easily, Mweko pondered, but then again, there was always the chance that the strong lion could somehow trick her, and she, left to dangle within its jaws. Then a light began to sparkle in her good blue eye, as she had come up with a tricky plan. The small Cheetah snickered scratchily, delightful that she had become brave enough to take such a risk. Slowly, steadily, she raised her maroon body until her sparkling, two-tone blue eyes were locked with those of her enemy. "Hello there", she greeted the lioness, biting her lip. Would the lioness detect that she was a Cheetah, or could she pull off her lioness act? After all, her coat was not spotted like the other Cheetahs. Mweko twitched her tail in discomfort, hoping that she wouldn't look nervous enough to give her secret away.

As Nkechi drew near the was able to see the not-lioness rather clearly. It was odd...she couldn't put a name to what this female before her was, but it looked almost like a small, skinny lion. Well, that was close enough to not being a monster for her! She smiled rather warmly, seeming happy to have company, though there was a tad bit of shyness tickling at the back of her mind, "HI! Um...I'm Nkechi! What's your name?" She tilted her head to the side, watching with friendly emerald orbs.

Mweko sulked forward. "My name is Mweko", she squeaked. "Wh-who are you?", she asked. She tried to straighten her posture to keep her head align with that of the lioness, but could not. The lioness was far too large. The little red Cheetah shifted from paw to paw, gulping down cries of terror. "Do you live near here?", she said more clearly, turning her face to an angle so she could see the lioness before her with her good eye, the blind one facing away. So far so good, she thought.

Nkechi giggled a little, but smiled warmly, "I said I was Nkechi...though....maybe you didn't hear me." She settled back on her haunches, her brown and white ears perked forward in interest. Why did she look so nervous...? Maybe she didn't like the graveyard either? That would make sense...Nkechi thought it was very creepy and she lived there, "Mm hm! I live here with my family."

Mweko whirled her head around. "Here?", she gasped, "In the graveyard?" The little Cheetah blushed and sank lower to the ground. She hoped she hadn't offended this lioness by her sudden burst of protest.

Nkechi didn't seem estranged by Mweko's outburst...actully, she reather agreed with it, "Yeah...I know...it's kinda weird. I don't like it there. It's really frightening and stuff but...everyone's there so I don't want to leave them. I'd be all by myself." She frowned a little at the idea. No matter how much she feared the graveyard and disliked it, she loved her family. So staying seemed the only option right now. "What about you? Where do you live?" She asked, seeming interested.
