Another day stuck outside in the heat was not Franklin's idea of fun. That didn't seem to matter too much to her mother, and thus once again the kit was tossed out with orders to get 'some sun'. This time Franklin didn't attempt to protest that Almalphia wasn't following suit--the last time she had, she'd been put to work on the chores that her mother was inside working on.
What was it with that woman and cleaning, anyway? It wasn't as if there were a speck of dust left in the feli house with her around. Annoyed, and grumpy, the kit headed over towards the river, book carefully balanced on her back to take with her.
After a few slight mishaps, and a few mumbled words of hatred for the ground that soild her precious pages, Franklin arrived at the shore. The large boulders by the bend in the river were perfect for reading, thanks to a few trees on the outcropping that offered just the right mix of shade and light; if she had to spend time outdoors, she'd at least be comfortable. The little kit got her book up on top of her favorite reading place after a bit of a struggle, and finally settled down to prop her book open to the first page.
"Call me Ishmael."

Iris strolled down no particular path, encompassed by gorgeous weather marred only by her apathetic grumblings regarding how Feli need to stop freaking breeding and overpopulating the poor, already much-too-crowded Feli house, thus forcing her to come out here for something as simple as peace. Still, her heart was hardly in the complaining, and it was more a product of habit than anything else. Eventually she gave up on it all together and instead focused on where she was going... which appeared to be the river her sorta-mother loved so much. Nothing wrong with that; it was quiet, shady, perfect for an afternoon cat nap... and most importantly, usually entirely void of other Feli.

Alas, the peace was not to last for either female, as suddenly a panicky mewl of fear ripped the quiet, closely followed by a tremendous plash which no doubt managed to catch at least one of the females, if not both under the shower of water.
A gasp of air was sucked in as a pale blue head emerged from the inside of the river, large purple orbs looking around in what seemed to be honest fear as the seraphim batted his paw against the liquid, making quite the failed attempt at swimming; so poor was his attempt and so ungraceful was it, that it took him a good few minutes to reach the shore again, breathing harshly and looking very much shaken.
Never did Shinzu notice he had a clear audience, or he'd not doubt, have turned to run for the hills; instead, he allowed himself to flop languidly on the shore bed, the water lapping at his hind legs. Idly though, he made note NEVER to nap on a tree branch stretched out to hang over the river, for no sooner had he fallen asleep, that a bird had land on his head, startling him awake... and needless to say, scaring him into losing his balance enough to topple down into the river.
Water, Shinzu decided was not something he liked.
In fact, the male was sniffling slightly, having uttered not one word, but rather, almost pathetic mewls. All in all, it would've been quite easy for both Iris and Frankie to mistake him for a female; the seraph traits added to his over all performance and his soft, melodic mewls would've pointed towards his rather complete lack of masculinity.

The sight of her beloved book drenched in water was enough to turn the pink kit with red with fury. Shaking water from her pelt, Franklin rose to her feet to try and find the cuplrit. By the time she did, she was just in time to see Shinzu drag himself from the water with obvious difficulty.
Anger abating a little for his plight, Franklin hopped off the rock she'd been sitting upon and padded closer to Shinzu. The girl leaned down a little, getting rather close to his face as she asked, "What on EARTH is wrong with you? Can you not swim? If not, what were you doing int the water?"
The girl shook her head then moved to help the boy to his feet, letting him lean on her a little, "Come, come, you'll catch a cold out in the shallows like that."

Iris hadn't even noticed the presence of the pink kit until the the blue Seraph, who she also had not yet noticed, caused a commotion. Well, so much for being alone... still, as long as there were no males around, she was perfectly willing to be social!
Iris emerged from her partially-concealed spot, casually noting as she picked up the drenched book and gently shook it out, "The print doesn't appear to be smudging at all, so as long as you leave it out to dry, it should still be perfectly readable in a few hours. I'd know; I've had several of my own books saturated in a variety of liquids, thanks to a little monster known as Pip."
After sitting it aside, spread open, on a reasonably flat rock, Iris closed the distance between herself and the others. "It's strange that I've come across the two of you out here... I frequent this spot a lot, and yet can't recall having seen either of you before. I'm Iris, by the way~"

Needless to say that as soon as the male heard the kit's harsh voice he practically slipped again, almost falling back down into the water; still his eyes were large, holding fear in them as he opened his maw, however, no sound came out, his voice having caught deep down in his throat, "I... I...." no more was elicited by the male as he stumbled backwards slightly, tears begining to form in his eyes.
It was just so terribly unfair! It wasn't like he'd meant to fall from the tree after all, in fact, Shinzu was still quite shaken due to the fright the bird had given him by landing on his head. So very, very unfair!
"I... I'm really sorry..." his ears flattened back, mostly due to his own embarrassing deeds, however, when he noticed the kit's anger slowly recedeed, he finally allowed himself to stand, using her as a guide to get out of the water.
Water, he'd decided, was not a good friend of his, "I'm fine..." once he'd been led to dryness, the seraph sat down, his head hanging slightly as he raised his gaze back to meet her own, "I slipped from the branch, it wasn't my intention to drench you too... I'm horribly sorry; I'm not the most graceful of creatures," it was obvious by the way he talked that he was more intelligent that his actions were no doubt, leading Frankie to think, however, his gender must've still remain misplace to her unless she had a very keen eye, what with his ... features and soft voice.
A kit he could handle, however, a grown female.... he could not; his initial encounter with one known as 'Gore' still haunted him and inmediately set him blushing; was THIS one also going to pounce him and demand he make snow? Oh good god.... perhaps he should.... tip toe away?
In fact, his eyes darted about, almost as if seeking a means to escape, however, Shinzu soon realised he was quite rooted to the spott and thus merely lowered his gaze, blushing furiously as he stared at his paws; of course, Iris could've easily mistaken said blush and think he was merely embarrassed for having caused sucha commotion. Which he was, after all.
Soon enough he noticed they needed to know his name, and so, he finally raised his eyes, his ears having dropped an inch, blush having receeded somewhat, "My name is Shinzu...."

Franklin sighed as she looked 'her' over, then shook her head and offered a slight smile. "Well I cannot say that I was not rather nettled by the interuption, i cannot in good concious fault you for it. Except that it would do to have more sense than to nap over a river."
The kit backed off once he was helped up, and sat down on the dry sand. Her strange blue eyes went up to the female holding her book, "Thank you for the help with the book, Miss. Unfortunatly, I too have had a few books ruined, though more to do with an inconsiderate 'uncle' of sorts. I don't truly claim him as family."
A snort followed that statement, before her eyes drifted back to Shinzu, "I am Franklin Gothic. Come, you cannot be happy that wet, and a good sit on a sun bathed rock will do you good." Frankling stood up once more, turning slightly to make the jump back up onto her boulder and settle down as she began to inspect her copy of Moby d**k. "Yes yes.. not too much damage."

Iris tilted her head to the side, brows furrowing in amusement, "You know, love, we're not going to eat you or anything. Well... rather, I'm surely not planning on it, and I feel it's safe for us to assume Franklin here isn't intending to either." Moving over to the boulder, but placing herself on a nearby pass of grass instead of the rock itself, she turned to address Franklin, "Ah, family; they're often more trouble than they're worth.
Thing is, some of them I love dearly enough that even if they accidentally ruin one of my belongings, I'll easily let it slide. Pip, though... he does it on purpose, and he's an adult now, so it's not as though he doesn't know any better... that's what makes it so aggravating. It's one thing for an accident to happen; it's something else entirely if you're going out of your way to be a brat." She rolled her eyes, huffing a bit at the thought of him.

Still the seraph looked slightly wary, perhaps disturbed; the idea of being around females was doubtlessly scary! What if they snapped at him? He'd heard females could get scary if wronged... in fact, no sooner had the thought crossed his head that he gulped, ears droping an inch further, "I... have familly here; Ryuki, she's my sister," her voice still melodic had no raised in volume, barely even above a whisper, though his eyes did travel from Franklin to Iris.
Mentioning his sister always made Shinzu feel slightly more secure, even in unknown territory, after all... so many other feli did know his sister, and also ... liked her for whom she was, for even though excentric, Ryuki was usually up for lending a paw to help, in her own unique way, "She has children however now.... I find that...." a pause, his ears slowly perking up as he noticed neither female seemed to be out to get him, "Strange?" he offered as he looked over Iris, then raised a paw, "I really like your wings, they're pretty, and sparkle, like this..."
Opening his maw, the seraph slowly let out a breath, cold as winter's hail, however, nothing like it, for though cold and doubtlessly sparkly due to the ice he exhaled, as soon as it touched Iris' form, the whisps melted, leaving only a drop here or there, "Like that," a smile was offered at the kit at this point before he lifted his head and once more blew ice, the smile lingering as he watched the sparkles melt in thin air after a minute or so. They were just so lovely...

"Yes well, I know for certain that Riddick does that on purpose," Franklin growled out with a shake of her head. "He is positivly despicable, but mother and father incist that I have to obey 'uncle riddick' when I am left to his care."
Franklin looked up as the seraph stepped closer. Her ears perked up a little and eybrows rose at the whisps of ice weaving their way along the breeze. "That is simply marvelous!" She exclaimed after a moment. "Extraordinary, I am sure. How do you do that?"

Her eyes grew wide as realization dawned, and quite obviously at that, "Ahhh~! Of course I know Ryuki. Her son is part of my pseudo-family, actually, with Pip. I understand about it being strange; Ryuki doesn't seem to understand how it happened... not to mention the fact that Nalin-- er, her one son, that is-- seems equally incapable of understanding the breeding process. Doesn't keep him from being the sweetest boy I've ever met, though. ...still, it's a bit strange that I went so long without realizing she had any siblings."
Iris perked up when he showed off his "ice trick"; it clearly impressed her greatly. "I've heard of Feli able to do things like that, but I've never actually seen it before. That's really, really impressive." And then, to Franklin, "...he must be an elemental. It's a fairly rare gift, though, I believe."

A pause, his ear flicking slightly, having perked all the way; it was clear that the ice had calmed him enough to smile, however, the kit's question caused him to frown, "Well, I don't really understand the process, it's something I learnt to do... one day; it just happened as I was sneezing," it was becoming easier to notice that unlike his sister, Shinzu's sanity remain unharmed... in fact, he seemed to be rather smart once he got over the whole shyness ordeal.
Then again, it was probably due to the fact his mind had chosen to forget he was in fact dealing with females, otherwise there was no doubt he'd still be refusing to mee their gaze, "It's fun, and rather pretty," another pause, "I find I like sparkly things... like ice, and glass," a smile was offered at them, his eyes closing for effect, "I live with a feli... that likes to collect pretty stuff; she gave me this, to match my sister's earing," tilting his head, he allowed the single blue feather to dangle, looking quite proud to posses it.
Amusingly enough, unlike many would've, he didn't pause to flaunt about his small gift; quite the contrary, he seemed quite intent on finding a gift which both other female possesed but he didn't, "You sparkle... I don't, that's a gift too, I wish I could sparkle..." as he turned his eyes down upon the kit, he tilted his head, "And your eyes are very pretty... I've never seen eyes like that, even in my travels, I'd bet my wings they're a gift too," at the mention of Nally, both ears perked, "I'm his uncle, however, unlike this 'Riddick' you speack of, I'm his true uncle by blood bond," and boy was he EVER proud of his sweet nephew, "Sweet boy..."

"Nally... yes, he is sweet," Franklin nodded slightly. That the creature they were speaking to was male was quite a shock, but she felt it would be wrong to mention that up until this moment she'd thought differently. "I too have attempted explaining the concept of 'breeding' to him, as he seems to be quite intent on performing said act, but he is too... sweet... to comprehend it. One day he and kalapi will no doubt bear children and never know from wence they came."
Franklin snorted a little, and the offered Shinzu one of her rare smiles, "And thank you for the compliment. Your wings are a gift, I am certain, and a lovely one at that." Her eyes turned back to Iris and she regarded her for a long moment, "Iris, was it?" Before the adult could answer, Franklin smirked, "Its nice to finally meet the sister i've heard so much about."

Iris couldn't help but boggle at the kit's observation; clearly she hadn't pondered the possibility of Nalin ever having bundles, let alone the fact that Frankie seemed to already know the Feli with whom he'd likely have them, "...Nalin? And Kalapi? Did I miss something, or are you just making audacious predictions here?"
As for Shinzui's little monologue, she seemed to take it in doses. First, she appeared mildly interested by his story; then, mildly flattered by the compliment. Finally, her expression seemed to stick on an awkward smile, right around the time he referred to himself as an uncle. After an uncomfortable pause to match her odd expression, she sputtered a little and managed to calmly form the question, "...uncle, did you say?"
She vaguely heard Franklin saying something about a "sister" and an "Iris", but these statements were now beyond her broken brain's comprehension. For the time being, only one thought repeated in her mind in an odd, broken-record sort of way; a disbelieving mental voice screeching, that's a freaking GUY!?!
