I've passed this book in the Library many times and debated on picking it up. Is it any good?...It might be worth summer reading.

Hiroko: I bought 'Cry of the Icemark' for one reason and one reason only: Giant talking Snow leopards! Snow leopards are my favorite animals so I was excited to find a fantasy book with one on the cover. And after reading it I thought it was really good as well. The main character is a bit cliche but other than that....most of the other characters are great too though....but I'll give you one important peice of advice: do NOT read the summary on the inside cover. It gives away a spoiler that doesn't happen untill at least a quarter of the way through the book.
Bob: Apperantly I'm crazy and have the exact opposite opinion. I can't seem to find the connection of why all the other characters seem to love the main character since she's a whiny little bratt. I also like the most boring character in the book.
(spoiler warning) Hiroko: For the last time, the werewolves like her because she spared Grishmak's life and agreed to allow the werewolves back into thier country. Oskan likes her because she makes him do things he wouldn't normally do. Maggiore likes her because he's known her for so long. The Snow leopards admire her courage and determination. and pretty much everyone else is related to her and has an obligation to love her. xp
Bob: Whatever. stare

I was rather bored by this book. Quote: Characters tend to be two-dimensional and conflicts within and between them do little to influence the plot. Thirrin's shyness in personal encounters, for example, quickly disappears. Oskan goes through experiences that should be transformative, especially in a young person, but he shows no evidence of inner change throughout the book. In general, the writing tends to be explanatory rather than descriptive, and this leads to a flatness in what should be an exciting story. This review pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter. It just didn't work for me. D=

I read it a few years ago, and did enjoy it at the time. I haven't read it since, however.
