This thread is for our members to practice their debate skills before heading out into ED-P. We will be utilizing the talents of OneTinSoldier as an instructor of sorts, and would like to possibly find one other individual as well. We will try to set up a scheduled time/date each week for 'class' and see how it works.
The rules and additional information will follow shortly.

Sounds like the idea is going over well! Just as long as everyone understands that each person is going to take a turn at being 'devil's advocate'...you'll learn a lot from debating the opposing view.

He's bogged down doing taxes this week, so it looks like we'll be getting started next week end (Easter weekend). Everyone will have a turn at being devil's advocate, though. The dubious duty will not fall entirely on one person!
edit: Those of you interested please think about some topics to debate with, and feel free to suggest topics here. We will choose one topic per week to work with, and a different person each week will be the 'devil's advocate'.

Topics!
It's all about topics! In order to keep it interesting we need to collect some ideas for topics. It could be anything... politics, current events, historical events, science, random thoughts, it doesn't matter for the sake of debate. I can present topics, if we can't come to a consensus. Also, from time to time, I will play "devils advocate", just to keep things interesting. An important thing to remember about debating is that the chalenge is in putting forth an idea that you do not personally believe. It much easier to argue things you have a passion for.

OTS, perhaps the recent goings on with the Schiavo case would be a good start topic? Even though the situation is now, for all purposes, over, it still carries a heavy load of controversy...
Just a suggestion.

*kicks an empty chair*
I'm going to add the Iran situation as a potential subject...this is not only current, but more than a bit relevant. Should we use diplomacy, or should we go in, guns ablazing?
