Title: Train Man
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Words: 1st Part- 158 Words
Notes: May reach 3 or 4 parts. I'll probably be revising this several times as well as better words reveal themselves to me. While never named, the main character in these drabbles has always been a favorite of mine. It piqued my curiousity.

It's tough saying goodbye to a friend; Tougher still when that same friend is the only consistency one could find in the world.

"So they're bringing the plate down" thought a red uniformed man, as passengers funneled onto the train right behind him, unaware that this would be the last time the train ever left this station.

He only hoped they weren't coming on the last return train as well. He was too frightened to say anything.

20? 25 years now? He couldn't recall how long he'd spent there as Sector 7's train man. The years all blurred together, likewise the memories. All that mattered was that he got his livelihood from the Shin-Ra, and that he could be there to assist the masses in making their way around the massive metropolis that was Midgar.

That was all. Even on those days where he could have done more, he just stood there, watching the events unfold before him.

Back during the war... those were interesting days. He didn't think too much about the people out fighting in some distant land, nor about those coming home after serving their time for Shin-Ra.

Ah, Shin-Ra. Simple. If they won, his job would continue on as normal.

The man paused at this thought, shook his head, and glanced up at the plate above him. His stomach lurched.

As he lowered his head back down, he briefly caught a glimpse of 3 people speeding by down on the pathway below. He recognized one of them, a well built lady with dark brown hair, as the owner of the local bar, and the person in front of her, a rather large man with spiky blond hair. He had arrived in the sector not too long ago.

But what piqued his curiousity was the girl who followed behind them. The face of hers was strangely familiar to him.

Then it hit him... It was back during the war. That girl -only a child then- had gotten off the train, accompanied by a frail lady. Although he had stood there at his post the entire time, he could remember the look on the girl's face as she stood by what appeared to be her mother. He never did catch her name.
