I'm not sure if comics are considered books. Discuss about comics.

You can also make threads about comics in the main forum if you like, but please do not make them in excess.

I'm a huge comic nerd (though, I'm a wait for the trade). Comics are books in my opinion, like princess has already pointed out, however, there is a huge difference between novels and graphic novels. I still enjoy both forms of entertainment, both have aspects that I love.

In fact, I need both. I usually read three TPB's per week and one novel a long with it. It's just the way I am, I love to read but novels will bore me if I don't have the comics to help clear my mind for the next book.

I haven't been reading comics lately. I stopped last year when the comic stores around me all closed. A few months before I stopped reading comics all together I stopped reading Marvel. For some reason they had just hit a patch of horrible writing.

Most of the independent comic book shops in my area have gone out of business, so I'm hoping to find back issues of my favorite comic books at the San Diego Comic-Con at the end of July. On4e of my favorites is published by Oni Press: Courtney Crumrin by Ted Naifeh, which is best described as Harry Potter meets Grimm's Faerie Tales. Here is the web page:

Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things

Of course, I'm also waiting for Judd Winnick to finish working on the animated series The Life and Times of Juniper Lee and get back to working on his comic book series, Barry Ween: Boy Genius...

I don't know. I really do love the art they use in mangas. And comics like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is always a good view and read.

This is like the argument that television programs/movies aren't art, and cannot be meaningful due to their accessible nature. Are you kidding me? Much of the "fine art" we enjoy today was originally both lauded and insulted for its common speech. Shakespeare wrote to include uneducated masses, but his work is considered brilliant; Wordsworth wrote almost with a rural accent; Twain flat-out wrote in an uneducated dialect, but he is one of the greatest gems of the nation.

Are comics art? Of course they are. Are they literature? They can be.
