Bass'ken Lake is one of the prettiest places in Gaia, year round. Spring time sees new blossoms and sprouting plants at the water's edge. Summer brings an onslaught of the young and old seeking relief from the heat. The changing leaves of autumn scatter across the water's surface. Once the lake freezes over and surrounding land becomes covered in snow, it resembles a scene from a landscape, the kind reserved for postcards and small paintings.
Many Gaians flock to the lake to fish, no matter what the season, but through some cosmic miracle, there are always plenty of open places to sit around the water's edge. The dock is always in decent repair.
There are benches and trash containers placed in convenient locations around the area, but still some trash ends up in the lake and scattered amongst the grounds. Small school groups often stop by and help to clean up the mess.
All in all, Bass'ken Lake is a wonderful place to meet and greet, or to be by one's self away from the busy hubbub of the Gaian towns.

(( See Soco. See Soco have no friends. Make friends, Soco, make friends. ))
Soco had finished his chores at the Kanth/Karlet mansion early this day, and was at a loss as to what to do with himself. He'd checked the floors twice to make sure he hadn't overlooked anything. For lack of anything better to do, he picked up one of the many books he was in the middle of, and took off to Bass'ken Lake.
The weather was beautiful: warm, little humidity, and a crystal-clear sky. He hadn't bothered to change out of his main outfit -- the maid outfit plus nurse's hat -- but it was light and airy enough that he wouldn't overheat in it. He made a mental note to look into getting another one, soon; he was beginning to outgrow it.
The lake wasn't overly busy this day, and he settled under a tree close to the water. The rough bark of the tree pressed against his back, but he paid no attention, turning to the page he'd left bookmarked. He lost himself in the pages of the novel, paying little attention to his surroundings.
(( ... That's not making friends, dammit! scream

It took them a while on foot, but at some point, Theif and Kilayla made it to the lake. They'd called over to Adrian's house, and found that Soco had gone. At some point in the convorsation, the two found out where Soco was.
When they were back at home, Theif had said to Kiki, "It might be cold on the lake, so I want you to put this on." He'd pulled a long-sleeved, dark colored shirt over her head. She'd run off and put on her green heart top over it, even though Theif wasn't wearing his today.
And here they were.
How they had managed to end up on the same end of the lake as Soco was a mystery. As Theif watched from a short distance, Kiki creeped up from behind the tree. "Soco~!" she said in a sing-song voice, then moved over to the other side of the tree, hiding.
Theif's eyes got big. He couldn't exactly hide, could he? He turned his back and whistled, swishing his tail. If he didn't see Soco, Soco couldn't see him, right?

Kiki had done an admirable job of sneaking up on Soco. The boy jumped a little at the voice behind him, but quickly smiled and glanced around. He didn't see her -- but he did see her guardian, who was standing nearby and pretending not to be visible.
Soco set his book in the grass beside him and glanced around the other side of the tree. "Kilayla~?" he called back. "Where are you~?"

Theif glanced back over his shoulder at Kiki, who was pressed giggling to the tree. He hadn't seen much of this playful behavior from Kiki during the time they'd been together. It made him happy. And kinda' sad.
"Shh!" she hissed at Theif when he looked at her, a broad smile on her lips. She snaked her head around the side of the tree. Theif laughed when she came face to face with Soco and gasped. Her ponytail had jumped, so she probably hadn't expected it.
Kilayla collapsed into laughter, then covered her face.
Theif grinned, then looked to Soco. His face went slightly serious. "I know that this is your you time, but can I ask that you watch Kiki for me for a while?"

Soco laughed as Kiki burst into giggles.
He hadn't laughed like this in a long time. Certainly not infront of anyone at the Karlet mansion...
He looked up at Theif, a grin taking the place of his usual shy smile. "Of course," he replied, still giggling. "It's no problem at all."

"Thank you, Soco! Lifesaver, you are." Theif cried, smiling. "You can't imagine how helpful this is." He'd walked over and taken one of Soco's hands and patted it as he was saying,"If I come back and don't find you two here, I'm going to assume you're both at the mansion, yes?"
Without waiting for an answer, he hugged Kiki tightly and said, "See you sweety. Be good." He kissed her forehead, then tromped off and away.
"'Bye..." Kiki was saying quietly, waving. She looked a little sad.

"Of course, check with the mansion," Soco said quickly. "I doubt we'll go too far, but I'll let someone know, if we do."
The teen inwardly "awwed" as Theif and Kiki said their goodbyes. It was cute. And then sad.
"Cheer up, honey," he told Kiki softly. "He'll be back soon. We'll go hang out and do stuff and the time will just fly by." He then got an idea that made him smile mischevously. "Guess what?"

Kiki's eyes peeked up at Soco from underneath her wavy bangs. She didn't smile, but didn't look sad, either. Kilayla was about to say 'what?' but Theif had told her that it was impolite.
She pursed her lips, then said instead, "Yes?"

Soco's smile widened into a grin as he stepped in close and gently poked Kiki's nose. "You're 'it,'" he whispered. He then backed away quickly to see if she would give chase. If not, oh, well. He'd try and find something else to cheer her up with.

Kiki's hand flew to her nose, and her mouth popped open. She tried to jump onto him, grip his shirt in both hands, but as soon as she was there, he seemed to be gone!

(( Soco had no childhood. emo So, he gets it, now! ))
Soco snickered as he ducked behind a tree, peeking around it at Kiki. "Come and get me~" he called quietly.

Kiki grinned widely, and ran after Soco, giggling madly. She stopped just short of the tree, then went down on her knees. She crawled around the bottom of the big, scratchy-barked thing and reached out to try and grab Soco's ankle.

Soco danced around the tree, trying to stay just out of her reach. He then tripped on an inconveniently placed root and fell on his a---bottom, giving Kiki plenty of opportunity to tag him. Even as he sat there with a sore butt, he was smiling.

Kiki giggled shrilly, and scrambled to her feet. She barreled {as much as someone her size can 'barrel'} into Soco at the top speed she could accomplish, her hair flying.
