Alright, here are some little quiz-type things I've gathered throughout the years. If you know the answer please post and give a short explanation.

-------------

The photographs below show an interesting triangle that may bother some people.

If this bothers you, you are invited to explain how this setup works.

I believe:

(a) the pendulum is swinging through the triangle; so what!
(b) the pendulum is swinging behind the triangle.
(c) this is another trick using a computer animation.
(d) the "triangle" is formed using three orthogonal square rods.

The only way this setup works is if the camera is playing with angles making all three square blocks appear to be connected.

The beauty of it is that is impossible, or at least it appears to be.

d) it is an opticle illusion.

It's an optical illusion.

It is possible to create a real 3-D model which, when viewed from the correct angle, appears as an impossible triangle.

I'm agreeing with those above. It's an optical illusion, created by a specific camera angle which appears to show an impossible triangle and a pendulum swinging through it.

Definately amusing though. mrgreen

Very good ya'll, of course this is an optical illusion.

The second d, none of them will move.
*edit*I'm assuming they're supported from the center of mass*

This brings to mind an unpleasant experiment I had to do a while back.
Given a disc of unknown mass, with several weights of unknown mass randomly distributed upon it, a piece of string, a pivot upon which you can mount the disc so that it is perpendicular to the ground, and the various other things you always have, calculator, pen, pencil, ruler, etc, determine the local acceleration due to gravity.

Well, if it is the centre of mass, than it won't move either way, so what should be E.
If it was suspended from the centre of the circle, if it was whole, the whole thing would rotate in teh direction of the heaviest side. Just hope it isn't weighted.

Well, as it is suspended by the center of gravity, none will move, because it is balanced. So i go for awnser D2.

i will say i will go with the second D, or E which ever. My reason for that has already been stated above.

yeah, wasn't that triangle one of escher's tricks???

I enerything that we've just seen is an optical illusion, you can do some pretty crazy things with just a paper and pencil, Image how much we can do with modern day super computers. I have an Optical Illusions book, and it shows a lot of stuff like this.
