I recently bought this Miles Davis Story DVD and it was pretty cool. I was wondering what jazz movies and documentaries have you all seen and would recommend.

I've seen Bird and Kansas City(kinda jazz related) and of course the Ken Burns documentaries and a slew of others i cant think of. I want to see Round Midnight though, i cant believe i havent seen it yet sweatdrop

The Marsalis Family - A Jazz Celebration. If you own a DVD player and like Jazz then there's no excuse not to own this. Great arrangements, lots of songs, a documentary, Jasons perfectly tuned Yamahas (He might be the most talented of the bunch), Branford anf Wynton on the same stage doing "Cain and Able," and Ellis tricking Harry Connick jr into rehearsing one song for a piano duel and then whipping out "Caravan" by the Duke on show day....This is my favorite music DVD that I own.

Speaking of movies and jazz, here's something you ought to all check out. If you have a good internet connection there is a full hour and fourteen minute streaming real media concert of Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band in decent resolution.

Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band

I highly recomend watching this, (and i don't know how much longer this will still be up) as there is some really great stuff on the video. The band is playing at the Frank Mantooth Jazz Festival

I forgot who the guitarist is but he sounded pretty good, and there's a latin drummer who joins the group. Very tight group.

For all you trombonists, Jazz trombone extraordinaire Scott Whitfield is sitting in with the group, and plays a solo on the last number of the concert. Awesome stuff. Andy Martin also has some killer solos too.

Trumpet players! The incredible Wayne Bergeron is featured in the second set. good stuff.

Saxaphones, sorry but Eddie Daniels could not join the band on this concert, but there is still plenty of awesome saxaphone action!

For those of you who missed this incredible band play at the IAJE conference, among their other recent gigs, Don't Miss ThiS VidEo!

there's some other cool movies on the site as well.

I saw a really rare biography on Joao Gilberto not too long ago that I really enjoyed...the name has escaped me. I haven't gotten around to watching Ray, though I would consider myself somewhat of a fan of his music.

Apparently, there's a movie out there somewhere called Straight No Chaser that's sort of odd. Apparently, they followed Thelonius Monk around for a day and just shot footage of whatever he did. Never seen it anywhere.
