Emma _ Frost

"Ah yes, here I am in my never ending quest to bring a little bit of culture to the masses, so I took it upon myself to delve into the topic of books here in the Guild. Find out those who enjoy them what their likes are, favorite genres, authors, that whole lot, and maybe even how you enjoy reading a good book."

Okay end the IC Emma Frost. This is now me talking so I thought I might kick off a list of my favorite authors and the works that I've most enjoyed by them.

My favorite genre of books has always been the fantasy line. I never really cared for anything else. I always loved reading but I never truly got a passion for it until I doscovered the author, Carol Berg. I was browsing the fantasy section at waldenbooks and did you ever see a cover that captured your attention so you pull it, read the back and think,"Oh hey this looks interesting." and buy it? That's how I discovered Ms. Berg.

The book was called Revelation. I finished it in two days and discovered it was the second in a trilogy. I went out that Monday and bought the opener, Transformation, and the trilogy finale, Restoration.

I fell in love with this trilogy and the characters within. They truly stood out and it's like you can feel the emotions of what the author dreamed up. They are just that damn good! I swear I rated it higher than LOTR and I wish desperately that some screen writer would get hold of this trilogy and create something for it. PETER JACKSON! Where are you!?

After this, I have faithfully collected every novel that Carol has written, including (in order);

Song of the Beast

The Bridge of D'Arnath series:
Son of Avonar
Guardians of the Keep
The Soul Weaver
Daughter of Ancients

All excellent books! I highly reccomend each and every one!

Other authors and titles that I have read and enjoyed;

Glenn Cook;

Tyranny of the Night

Anne Bishop;

House of Gaia series;

Pillars of the World
Shadows and Light
House of Gaian

And her newest title:

Sebastian

Terry Goodkind;

Wizard's First Rule
Stone of Tears (in the process of reading)

There is nothing better than to soak in a hot tub by candlelight with a good book!

How about y'all?

I adore Raymond E. Feist's Midkemia series. heart

There was also this book I read a very long time ago by Holly Lisle called "Minerva Wakes". I haven't been able to find this book since I lost it so long ago, and it's the only book by this author that I really like.

There was also a book called "Witch and Wombat" by Carolyn Cushman. This book was so hysterical, especially if you're an RPGer, since it pokes fun at gamers (table top, LARPers, AND computer gamers) and totally screws with fairy tales. It's not a very deep, thought provoking book, but it is good if you want a laugh.

Dan Brown's Angels and Demons was pretty good... way better than the now-infamous sequel The DaVinci Code.

And that's about all the non-graphic, fiction books I've read as of late. Whoopsie!

Peter David's:
Sir Apropos of Nothing
The Woad to Wuin: Sir Apropos of Nothing, Vol. 2
Tong Lashing: The Continuing Adventures of Sir Apropos of Nothing, Vol. 3 (will soon be reading)

Sharon Shinn's:
Archangel

I've loved her first of this trilogy and can't wait to read Jovah's Angel and The Alleluia Files.

That's all for me so far. Hope to have that change in the near future. ninja

I really enjoy Greg Rucka's prose works, my favorite being Smoker.

My other favorites are Fight Club and Lullaby by Chuck Palanuik, and The End of the Road by John Barth. Camus's The Stranger is also one I like to revisit from time to time.

I'm kinda in the middle of a few books. The one I plan on finishing next will likely be Peter David's Knight Life. At least I probably will finish it in time for the finale of the trilogy's release. sweatdrop

My favourite books are:

Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita
Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina (which I'm currently reading)
Chuck Palahniuk's Lullaby
Thomas Mallory's La Morte D'Arthur
Lewis Carrol's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Alice Through the Looking Glass and what she Found there
James Joyce Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

Right now, I'm reading Liz Wurtel's Prozac Nation, Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, and James Joyce's Ulysses.

I'm a ******** huge fan of Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club radically altered the course of my life. I actually got to attend a reading and signing as part of the Haunted tour, the man is my hero. He signed my book and I asked him who his favorite superhero is. His responce? Green Lantern.

Lately I've mostly been reading non fiction, occult and theological stuff but Maiadorn got me into Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. scream heart

(I guess I'll take next Sunday. xp )

I read the Wheel of Time series because I'm stubborn. I will get to the end someday! And it does have good parts, I swear.

I like to learn and get a good story at the same time, so David Brin and Orson Scott Card are high up on my list when I'm looking for something to read. Steven Erikson's Malazan books are excellent fantasy reads. They kick all sorts of a**. Neil Gaiman I'll read if I find a book of his that interests me. American Gods was nice. The Coldfire Trilogy by CS Friedman is good mostly for Gerald Terrant. The guy could school Dracula, he's that damn cool. Dave Wolverton's On My Way to Paradise probably started my love for samurai and bushido, and Victor Koman's The Jehovah Contract did make me think a lot even though it was bad sci-fi.

Good Omens and Anansi Boys are very good Gaiman. I just tend to forget that they're novels, because he's Neil Gaiman.

Oh, I loved Good Omens. I forgot to add American Gods by Gaimen. And any of the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett.

I adore Terry Pratchett. Been reading him almost my whole life. Closest thing I have to religion, is Discworld. I'm especially fond of the books about the Nac Mac Feegle. Love The Bromeliad and Good Omens too.

I'm overly fond of anything with the Witches (Granny Weatherwax is my hero), Rincewind, or Death. Because Death is just awesome.

You know, there's going to be a Hogfather TV Movie this Christmas. And Sam Raimi's apparently looking to make The Wee Free Men into a movie, once he's free of his Spidey commitments.

The Witches and Death sub-series are my favourites. I love Susan, Granny and Death. You have to love Death. And The Death of Rats, of course.
