Well, I'm starting this thread so that anybody can ask me any questions about astrology. I've been studying it for more than 10 years and practicing it for more than 5 so if you guys have got any questions, go ahead a shoot. In the meantime, if there are no question, I'll just post some useful information to spark some discussion.

Alright. This is more of an observation question. Have you noticed people try acting more like their generation signs? In comparison to people in different generations, you could look at the actual signs (uranus, pluto, MAYBE neptune) and for within that actual generation, to see what subgroup you'd want to be in, check out the houses. Have you noticed this?

Yes, of course. People tend to act like their generation signs simply because they were born in that 'age'. The generational planets are Neptune, Uranus and Pluto (or so-called outer planets).
One of the most obvious placement between the planets in our generation is the Pluto in Libra. Children born with this placement will find that their views on relationships, partnerships and the interaction between one individual and another, drastically altered. This is the placements which induces divorces and break-ups. The energy of Pluto destroys to make room for something better. It is like the phoenix which burns itself to ashes only to be reborn, more beautiful, more spectacular. And that is the same thing which is happening to the ways we look at relationships. No longer are we confined to moulds such as our ancestors were - arranged marriages, no divorces no matter how much you can't get along with your spouses and of course, the taboo of gay relationships. Nowadays, we are more liberal with sex before marriage, live-in couples, gay marriages. and most importantly, we develop relationships with those we love and not because of any other factors.

Yeah. Think sometimes Pluto brings back old traditions though. Right now we may have all this free marriage, but once we hit some other conventional with relationships pluto, that might go out the window. Then it'll happen again when Pluto goes to Libra again.

also i get really frustrated when peole tell me my fiancee and i are not supposed to be together. wood ox/ gemini and a water dog/ virgo. true i understand the oppositions but i also understand that the planet for virgo and gemini are really important to us. comunication is key in our relationship. but man. is that all we have going for ourselves.

Hello ZellyKat,
What I can do for you for your predicament is to construct a relationship chart and interpret it for you from there. However, I will tell you this now and honestly that I do not understand or know how to calculate Chinese Astrology. Tried to learn it once but found it a BIG headache with all the Chinese terms translated to English (same goes to Vedic astrology). However, I can tell you that in the end, the results are the same as I've compared with Chinese astrologers before. We read things differently but the end results are more or less the same.
So what I would need is yours and your SO's date, time and place of birth. Because by sun sign alone, it is not accurate to determine if two people should be together or not.
By the way, even if there are lots of 'hard' aspects in your chart, I do not believe in giving a relationship just because of that. Sometimes in our lives, certain people comes into our lives for a reason and 'hard' aspects help us to grow! And seriously, astrology does not deteremine if two people should be together or not. But you may consult astrology to see which are the good points in your relationship and in which areas you would encounter problems.
Gemini and Virgo. I can see why people would think it's not suitable if they're only looking at the sun. Perhaps you two might be so nervous together that you both worry yourselves sick. Lol. But that is if only the rest of your chart have planets in relation with your sun signs.
Also Gemini is an Air sign whereas Virgo an Earth sign. Air and Earth are not known to get along with each other very well. Air people are all about ideas and may have their heads in the clouds. And in the sex departments, air signs would rather be wooed with words than actual physical touching. An Earth sign on the other hand, is practical and pragmatic. They rarely have time to dream or sit down and talk about grandiose ideas if they sense that it is not possible to implement them. Also, Earth signs are sensual people. Instead of talking about sex, they want to do it! Lol. xd
However, these are generalities. I still believe in looking at the full natal chart. heart

No problem. I guess the reason why you guys are not typical of your sun signs must have something to do with other personal planets in completely different signs! Good luck to everything!

If a planet has mostly hard aspects with the other parts of the chart, is it considered afflicted? Or does it have to only have hard aspects to be afflicted? Do afflicted planets/houses have special precedence over the rest of the chart or should it be treated like any other planet in degree of importance?
Anyone here have an afflicted planet/sign/house?

Usually, a planet is considered afflicted when there are hard aspects with other planets in the chart. Aspects are angles between planets and planets. It has nothing to do with other parts of the chart. The only exception is if you want to consider the AC, MC, IC and DC as a point which has a relationship with the planets although a lot of astrologers do not consider them for 'patters of the chart'.
No, I don't think that there are anything called 'afflicted houses' in astrology.
I do not think that afflicted planets should have a precedence over the rest of the charts because both hard and harmonious aspects enjoy the same percentage of manifestation in the person's real life personality.

ImaginaryQuicksilver I heard that hard aspects with the outer planets and Mars has a greater affliction than hard aspecs with the other planets. Is that true? It's not a question about whether it is true or not because all energies in astrology can be used for the better or for the worse. If say you have one of the most powerful outer planet, pluto in a hard aspect in your mars. Typically you would probably end up being a maniac! But if you know how to use the energies constructively, you can probably get precisely what you want with the correct amount of force and willpower. And about outer planets, if you're familiar with Tarots, it's a bit like the trumps cards. They are energies that you have not much control over. It's overwhelmingly there and you cannot do much to change it so what you can do is to accept it and work with it.

okay. I''m a complete n00b (yes, that bad off) when it comes to astrology, first off. I''ve tried reading the charts and all that stuff, and I get very confused easily. Perhaps its because I''m thinking one way when I need to be thinking in a totally different direction.
Earlier in this thread you mentioned "Generation signs"? What exactly are those and how can a person tell what their generation sign is? Is it something along the lines of "The Age of Aquarius"? If not, then are there actual time periods, "ages", that are represented by the zodiac/planets? Or is it just a cool song?
And a good question: I noticed that when getting the natal charts from astro.com, they ask for your birthplace (and exact time), because, I'm assuming, where you're born affects your relative alignment with the planets, etc. However, whenever I see some people offer to do readings, they don't bother with the time and place, usually just the date/year and sometimes the time. Can't that skew a reading?
