Today I found out much to my surprise that many food places in Austin (Texas) on Congress (heart of the city) close at 7pm, with some closing at 8pm. Never knew this until today when a guy on the street told me he was hungry and I offered to buy him a simple meal. By the time we found a place still open, they were just closing down and only had a few slices of pizza for them (the guy and a person I'm assuming was his wife, girlfriend, or fiancee.) A big slice of pizza each, sure, but it was still nothing compared to the foot-long subway sandwiches I was hoping to get them. gonk
It's raining outside now, too. I really can't take care of them, so the best I can do is get them a small meal, treat them like descent people, and shed a tear for them. I hope they're doing okay. I can only imagine how hard it is when you feel you have to go up to somebody and tell them you're hungry. crying

I wish there really was a good way to help them all. After seeing some homeless people you really can see a guy going around saying goodbye to everybody before he jumps off a bridge. crying

We have some homeless living down the street from me. They sleep under the bridge by my house. Like all the restaurants around here will like feed them food so its not like they are starving. A couple years ago some rich family around here donated money to build a house type thing for teh homeless around here. I only know of like 5 though but I know theres more.

Eh, I'd actually call it opportunistic altruism... helping them at a time that was most convenient for me, really. confused
