It is always breezy in the meadow. Green grass and flat land could be seen for miles. There are wild flowers that grow scattered across the area, the wind carrying their sweet smell.
This is the perfect place for a picnic. Many haka stop by here with their husbands so just sit down, eat and look at the scenery. For others, it's the perfect place to nap because the grass is so soft.
Over the meadow, a clear sky could be seen. The weather was usually nice around this spot.

Ren trodded behind his younger brother through the meadow. He had the same distant look in his eyes as he normally did. He was deep into thought. Today's breakfast tasted horrible. Whoever coked it shouldn't ever ge allowed to cook again...wait a minute. It was me who cooked today. I suck. Oh well, I was never meant for cooking anyway. It's not like I'm going to marry. I don't want to marry any haka...at all He just let one thought flow into others. He was so oblivious to his surroundings that he didn't notice when Kratos stopped and he bumped into the other gehaka. He snapped back to reality and took a look around. "this place is so pretty" He said. Kratos grumbled and told his older brother to wiat for him here while he was gone. He told Ren that he would only be absent for a couple of minutes. The tan gehaka nodded and plopped himself onto the grass. He waited patiently but his brother never came back.

Shizuka had never wandered into the wide meadow before. The grass swayed beautifully in the wind, and just about thirty yards away was a tan Gehaka sitting on the ground. Curious to know the reason, Shizuka strode over to the Gehaka and sat beside the Gehaka.
"Are you looking at something in particular? Waiting? Watching?" he mused aloud, looking in the same direction as the Gehaka. He was sitting in nearly the same position. He wondered if the Gehaka had noticed him at all.

It took awhile before the gehaka noticed taht someone else was there. He nearly fell back in surprise. That other gehaka is so pale in contrast to his black hair. Ren soon replied to the other. "I came here with my little brother. He'll be back soon because he told me" He looked up to the sky. It was so blue. Why was the sky so blue? Why was the grass green? These kinds of questions fill Ren't thoughts for hours.

Shizuka smiled and said, "It's good that you still see your little brother... I've rarely seen my brothers since they were married. Both of them are Gehaka, and much more useful than I am..."
Shi also began contemplating the world around him and saw a stick on the ground beside him. He took a small knife from the pocket of his pants and idly began whittling a flute out of the wood. He had carved boats for years, but never something so small and intricate. The designs on his boats were elaborate and beautiful, but he wondered if he could try something new...
"What are you looking for out here?" Shi wondered aloud. It was an abstract question, not to be taken and answered swiftly.

"I only have one brother. Nobody wants to marry him though because...he doesn't have the best attitude. And for me, I'm not useful for anything. I don't think I'll marry" He said. He then thought about Shi's question. He slowly replied. "I'm not looking for anything. It is more likely that if you're not looking for something, it will come upon you on its own"

"That's a shame - that you're not going to get married - but if your mother can arrange for it, you're lucky. The rest of us are practically forced to marry just so that we won't become too burdensome for our parents and so that they can get the dowry from a Haka..." Shi replied, picking away at the holes on the top of the flute. The only thing left to finish now was the mouthpiece, the most difficult part of the instrument. More than likely it would end up sounding like some sort of mystical whistle, but no matter...
Shi nodded and replied, "Too true... do you think I'll find something out here?" he asked to himself and the Gehaka beside him, pausing in his whittling to receive the answer, or perhaps the lack there-of. He didn't expect the Gehaka to have any knowledge of such a think and then scoffed at himself, taking back to his work again and feeling pretty stupid for asking. "I'm sorry, it's not fair to ask you such a thing... you couldn't know..."

"it's not like I want to be married anyway...and it's not like that haka is my real mother. He's far from that." The tanned gehaka said and looked at the sky. His ears then flattened against his head. "now that I think about it, it's been hours since I saw my brother, and he told me that in a couple of minutes that he would be back..." His golden eyes shifted towards the pale gehaka. "I think you've already found something." He replied.

Shizuka looked curious about Ren's implication that the Haka was not his real mother. He wondered whether he meant it literally or in another sense. Perhaps he just didn't act like a mother... it wasn't unusual with Hakas. Their Gehaka sons seemed only useful when making them money or being married...
"Have I?" Shi asked, finishing the flute and working on carving intricate ivy vines around its sides and mouthpiece. Shi wondered if Ren liked music... he himself wasn't very advanced as far as music was concerned, but hoped that, perhaps, his companion might be.
"I'm sorry I haven't introduced myself yet; I'm Tsukiko Shizuka," he explained quietly, turning the flute in his hands. He offered it to Ren for inspection and asked, "And do you have a name in that deep chasm of thought, Philosopher??"

Ren laid back on the grass and stared at the clouds that passed by. "It depends, do you think you have found something?" He inquired, wondered what the other's reply would be. "yes I do have a name." Ren replied, looking at the flute. "My name's Saki, Ren. You are talented at carving I see. There are a lot of gehaka that are talented at the same thing. I sometimes wonder how they'll make money if lots want to do the same type of job..."

Shi chuckled, "I suppose I have... I don't know if it works or not, though," he said in reference to the flute. He wasn't about to try it out and embarrass himself. "I work in a boat carving workshop owned by my mother... how many other Gehaka do you know that carve boats?" he mused, not in a sarcastic way, but a curious one.

Ren looked at the flute. "I'll try it out. I love music even if I'm not that good at it" He said and blew at the mouth piece. A single note came out. "it seems to work fine." He said with a smiled. He then thought about how many people he knew carved boats. "well, I guess I only heard of one from what my brother told me. It's his brother's fiance that can supposedly carve anything out of wood. I would assume that he could carve a boat as well."

"I'm sure it's not difficult to play," Shi said to Ren's comment about not being good at music. The single note that issued was light and wafty like a set of panpipes when played right. "I guess it does..." Shi said with a touch of pride. He grinned and said, "You can keep it if you want. See if your brother's fiancee can duplicate or better it... I feel a boat carving competition in the making if he claims to be such an accomplished craftsman..."

Ren frowned. "you don't need to take things so seriously. I was just gossiping based on what I've heard." He said and looked at the flute. "but thank you for the gift. Maybe with luck I'll be able to learn how to play it well...I'm not that good at anything. That is probably why I haven't married yet."

"Who's taking things seriously? It would just be a fun challenge, that's all... I'm sure he's great..." Shi looked at Ren with a curiousity in his eyes as he tried to read the look on the Gehaka's face.
"I'm sure you're good at something. Rhetoric, if nothing else, Philosopher... what are you looking for in a Haka that would suit you?" he mused. "I believe I may have found what I need... he's so beautiful, like a mystic god... but enough about Shinku. I haven't given you a chance to reply. I apologize..."
