So Raito gets a deathnote and starts killing off criminals So maybe he's doing the right thing by killing bad people But should he? Doesn't that make him a murderer as well? Please share your opinions

This is really, just my opinion, but..
I actually think that the world is just extremely overpopulated as it is. So, I myself kind of think Raito's killing off of the worlds worse criminals is doing the world a favor. Though I don't think if the whole Kira thing was actually happening, even if Kira got every last heinous criminal that it would do that much good in the way of giving the planet a break....
dang.

I think that anyone, chosen with such a power would abuse it in some way, no matter how good their intentions were. When faced with the decision to make the world a better place and tryingto keep yourself from getting caught it's not going to work out. It's human nature to gain power and become highest power and humans will stop at nothing to succeed at that goal. On the whole, killing others is wrong, no matter what point you are trying to convey.

I believe that what Kira was doing was right, however, the fact that Raito wanted to become the GOD of the new world would have been impossible...because humans are humans and they can't be god. If Kira was real we'd all probably be supporting him because he can kill you and we have this thing called believing in god. We wouldn't be smart enough to know that Kira really wasn't God and we only support L because we knew who Kira was from the beginning. However, it is wrong because Kira really was a human, and him killing off humans is a crime. If Kira really was God, then we wouldn't argue.

Often, people label forces from this show as "good and evil". Raito and his group being evil, and L's group as good. I personally believe these distinguished and categorized forces as inexistent. Right and wrong do not exist in society. Neither do they make an impact on the direction the age of this world turns in. There is a force pushing to become the dominating figure. In this case, Yagami Raito who picked up the Death Note and gained power of unprecedented standards among humans, uses his newly gained power to become God of the new world. Obviously, by doing this, he invokes the mobilization of the other force: L and the police force. L's belief that he is justice and Raito's belief that he is God are both utterly ridiculous. Their beliefs are nothing but figments of their imaginations. If you were to look at this conflict from a Shinigami's point of view, you will see that the battle between Raito and L is just bickering of disagreement between two different opinions manifested into action. And that's exactly what it is. There is no right or wrong, good or evil, in this situation. Just two forces fighting for acknowledgement of superiority. The winner being stronger and the loser being weaker. Leaving the morality of anything irrelevant and completely up to the audience to decide.

Mierielle08 It's like the crime rate in Saudi Arabia: harsh punishments, low crime rate. xp . . . You obviously aren't aware of what happens just outside of an area that is under harsh control. People will search for any form of vice/rebellion. Of which can be THRICE as heinous the original crime-rate in the city/country before the law was laid. In Deathnote I don't believe anyone was/is necessarily 'good' or 'bad'. possible spoilers for some: Even Yagami (father) traded teh deathnote for his daughter even though the "right" thing would have been to not hand over the deathnote, since the number of deaths would have been greater than if she alone had died instead of all the people that could/can be killed by the deathnote. All of them are human and can only be so good/bad. Personally I don't believe in a "Captital Punishment", but I suppose there can be exceptions to that belief as well?

I dont think there is a right or wrong. therez just a matter of opinion. but for me, i think that what raito was doing was pretty wrong since he killed minor people and criminals and just suspects to study his death note.

Please don't contradict yourself.. First, you say you don't believe in the existence of right and wrong, then you go off to say that you think Raito's course of action is "pretty wrong".. What a profound answer.. (<---Please notice the sarcastic tone intended for that comment. That answer can never be as profound as it is ambiguous..)

There is no justice in taking a life. It makes no sense. There is no redemption for the lives that person might have taken, and even if they haven't killed, there will always be bad and good. To upset the balance, there is a 79% chance something horrible will happen. Though, some people just can't make a difference and change. They have no choice but to die. It's somewhat hard to explain.
