I'm thinking about getting a new bass and I'd really like some advice on the best models to go for! I live in the UK so basses that are available over here would be a good idea. I'm a student and have limited funding to get to straight away, however within a couple of months I should have a large amount of money that I would be able to put towards buying a bass.
Does anyone have any ideas for decent models of bass that I should look into? I'm looking at 4 string and not 5 string...that would just confuse me more!!
Any help is appreciated, and if I don't reply straight away it is because I am away about Gaia, although I will keep a note of this thread so I can return quickly and easily.
Thank you all for any help you give, in advance.

Who's Carl Thompson?
And right now I don't have anything.....I used to have a Fender but she got sold......I don't play my other bass that is for display, never have and don't ever want to....she's special and for display only.....so yeah, I don't have anything to compare......I guess I'm ideally looking at Fender here though!

If you can find one, get to Academy of Sound, I work in the Leeds branch smile . If not we have signed with Sound Control stores so go there, most cannot do repairs but say you know Tom from the Leeds stores and you might get a discount. Also don't buy Encore or Squier.

OLP is probably the best-sounding bass for $240.

Thank you all for any help you give, in advance. Since no one is really helping you lol, If you still are in need of a bass, tell us what you're looking for. I am assuming you want a 4 string, moderately priced from 200-400. But give us more details on price, what you play, what techniques you use. Then i'll give you a nice list of basses to look up.
