I haven't followed comics since 1997. I lost my interest then due to Image Comics irresponsible creators. They kept delaying comics month after month and I shifted towards manga with no other than Blade of the Immortal. (yeah it blew the hell out of me, if you have read it you know the feeling)

So anyway, currently even your neighbors dog watches anime and reads manga, they are everywhere 'cause it's gotten to the point where the quality doesn't matter as long as it came from Japan. Sometimes even if it looks slightly japanese it is an instant winner. That drop in quality made me take a look at comics once again and I noticed more than a few awesometastic artists. Ed Benes whom I didn't know until I saw the Thundercats comics by Wildstorm, namely Thundercats the Return. His art is amazing, he enven inks his own comics from time to time. Jim Lee is still as good as he was while doing Wild C.A.T.S. which if you liked then you'll still like him now. Personally I feel his art declined after Uncanny X-Men, X-Men was good but it seems that he was more into making Image then. Chris Bachalo whom I knew back then from a Buffy poster I got from a postermania magazine is now one of the best X-Men artists of all time. So these guys were doing pretty awesome stuff so how about some of the stories. Well most of the current stories suck. They are either recycled from previous attempts and mixed with previous successes, or simply scratched stories in "alternate" realities. New X-Men for example seems to have a sadistic joy of killing the new characters. But that's kinda fresh so I'll try not to dump it with the rest. DC had Infinite Crisis (again) and people kept saying the previous one was a lot better. I haven't read either but due to it's popularity I bet it was.

Such a long intro for this:

Civil War is kinda like Marvel's way to fight Infinite Crisis popularity. It feels a bit original but that's 'cause Marvel hasn't done anything like this before that I know of, outside of the secret wars.

Basically the goverment is tired of wasting billions of dollars in damage caused by superheroes fighting whatever menace human kind faced. They want to have some sort of control over the superheroes so they want them to register. No more masked vigilantes, they would be like a bunch of Captain America. The goverment even claim that police and military forces would aid the heroes when they need them, they would be allies. But we all know the real reason the goverment want to control such power right. Tony Stark is against it and apparently Peter Parker is now working for him. (hence the Iron man like Spiderman suit) They are more worried about villains learning super heroes identities through this registration act. Which we all know it WILL happen and Infinite Crisis is proof. (rip off anyone) Obviously some heroes (Captain America and the like) would be in favor of the goverment's proposal which will lead the heroes into a civil war. The registered heroes vs the none registered ones. (sounds like the metahuman fight of Kingdom Come to me). Regardless of where Marvel took inspiration this might end up being a nice crossover.

If anyone is willing to offer details I might've missed or wants to comment feel free to post.

I saw a little news blurb about it yesterday, I'll see if I can find the link and drop it here.

Tony Stark is actually for the registration and according to what I read he leads the government controlled superheroes against the vigilantes led by Captain America (irony much).

Peter Park was essentially hired by Stark to fill a role similar to War Machine, hence the new costume, which from a friend's description is somewhat like the alien symbiote suit, or the suit from Spiderman Unlimited (the second Fox series).

All in all the series could prove interesting.

It was easier to find then I thought it would be.

I saw a little about it here on Boing Boing.

Which linked to this article, giving a longer description.

Kinda got the idea that Tony was going to shift sides when I saw Iron Man paying off some guy that attacked Tony. I haven't read the rest of the pre civil war comics yet. Thanks for the heads up.

From what I can tell Tony is looking out for himself. The guy I know that reads comics said that he took Peter to DC and told him not to tell Cap as I remember it was part of the early negotiations for the law.

Right he did that, I read that comic. But all of his statements were against it even though Peter and Spiderman screw up making the politicians idea stronger. No wonder Tony wasn't pissed. It makes sense now. But I didn't think Spiderman would side with Tony. I mean maybe for now 'cause he doesn't know but I hope that when he does he throw his stupid suit to the garbage and fight with all the disadvantages he always had. I mean remember in JLU when Luthor worked on every villain to make them stronger he also made them vulnerable to him. I bet Tony has done the same with the Spider suit.

Read Civil War #1, it literally starts with a bang. The guys at IGN have some sort of review, preview, summary thing. I'm copy pasting it here for those that are somewhat interested.

What is Marvel's Civil War?
Civil War can best be described as a clashing of superhero ideology. The United States government passes a bill called the Superhuman Registration Act. It legislates, categorizes and tracks heroes and their activities. Some heroes are optimistic about the idea, and others are less so. Some believe that heroes should be public figures and others want their lives kept private through masks and secret identities. Sides are chosen, and the results are catastrophic. Friends become enemies, families are torn apart, and villains thank the high heavens.

Wait, who are the Illuminati?
The Illuminati are a group of leaders within the Marvel Universe. Originally gathered to discuss the fallout Kree/Skrull war, they met throughout the following years, acting as consul to each other. The members were: Tony Stark (founder), Charles Xavier, Reed Richards, Stephen Strange, Namor and Black Bolt. Black Panther was invited to participate, but refused on moral grounds due to the secretive nature of the group.

The key events regarding the Illuminati are twofold. First, the group was responsible for determining that the Hulk should be sent into space. This launched the Planet Hulk storyline which is currently occurring in the Incredible Hulk title for the next year. The second event involved the beginning of the Superhero Registration Act. Tony Stark is given a copy from an insider in Washington. He tells the Illuminati about the act, but only Reed Richards agrees with Tony's stance that the act is justified (Namor, Strange and Bolt dissent, and Xavier was still missing from the House of M fallout). This marks the beginning of the road to Civil War.

Alright, so the Illuminati special debuts the Act, what happens in Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four?

Amazing Spider-Man is directly tied to the Superhuman Registration Act. The events in Fantastic Four will play out in the future.

Amazing Spider-Man involves Peter Parker and Iron Man going to Washington to meet with senators regarding the legislation. Stark's motives seem simple enough - Peter is going to act as his extra set of eyes. It turns out, though, that Tony was manipulating Peter in order to convince the senators to delay their bill. While Peter and Tony are meeting with the officials, the Titanium Man attacks. Spider-Man swings into action, which Tony hopes will convince the government that masked heroes are an asset to the world, not a threat. The arc ends with Peter Parker sleeping in front of a T.V. as news breaks of a disaster in Stamford, Connecticut.

Fantastic Four features two extremely important events: the return of Doom and the return of multiple objects from Asgard, one of which being Mjolnir, Thor's hammer. While the other objects have not been revealed, they will all play a role in Civil War. The return of Dr. Doom is naturally important, and it is all but certain that Victor will take advantage of the superhero strife.
