(( Haha, I suck at titles. <3 ))

Hungry, and not in the mood to hunt, Chandra was rooting around in the Legends HQ refrigerator. She wasn't looking for anything in particular, hoping something in there would strike her fancy - so far, nothing had. With a sigh, she shut the fridge door and started in on the cupboards. She wasn't careful to be quiet, letting each one slam shut as she decided she was not satisfied with the contents.

Finally, she had ransacked the place and finding nothing, she sat down on one of the stools by the kitchen island. She ruffled the feathers of her ruff with one hand and tapped quietly on the counter with the other. Maybe she should order something? Probably a waste of money, she thought, remembering how little she made.

So she got up, her face impassive, and began her search anew. If she was truly hungry, she would find something.

Demare was a little hesitant to come to the HQ, having not been there for... Well, he was beginning to think it was close to a year by now. What brought him there, he wasn't sure of. Maybe it was simply curiosity... Or maybe somewhere in that cold heart of his, he'd missed the place. Whatever the reason, he was here now, and he figured he might as well take a look inside.

Grasping the doorknob, he turned it just enough to hear a light click, indicating the bolt drawing back against the metal. Why was he being so cautious...? Pushing the door open slowly, the halfling's black eye searched the area for life. From where he was, he couldn't see anybody. Great... It was empty. Pushing the door open further, Demare stepped inside and shoved the door closed with his foot, not really caring about the light slamming sound it made. Just his luck... He always showed up when nobody was here.

Stepping over to the couch in the lounge, he plopped himself down into a slouch in the corner, resting his head against the arm and sprawling his body out as much as he could. One leg swung a little bit over the edge of the cushion, his foot just high enough to not catch on the floor. Maybe he could take a nap... or burn something. Burning something sounded good right about now. Destruction... It seemed to sooth him as of late. Reaching to his side, he removed the small pouch he had attached to his waist and rested it on his chest, opening it up and taking out one of the cookies it contained. Demare never really liked sweets... Or rather, Demian didn't. This was more of Clare's kind of thing. However, his other half had fallen asleep on the way here, having stayed up all night looking for something in the library Domonic made. Whatever... Taking a bite, the halfling immediately made a face of disgust, but continued to chew then swallow what he had.

"BLECH... sugar cookies..." he grumbled, staring at the rest of the snack he had left in his hand. Maybe he could throw it somewhere...

Normally alert to the sounds of people entering buildings, Chandra was too busy cutting up an apple to notice the sound of the door to the HQ opening and closing. She was enjoying the feel of slicing through the crisp apple more than she would probably enjoy the slightly sweet fruit - and probably a little more than she should have. When she finished, she threw away the core pieces in the trash can and placed the knife and cutting board in the sink. She could wash them later.

Picking up her plate of apple slices, Chandra made her way back to the living room - opening the door with her hip. She was humming tonelessly, a habit she had picked up at work.

As the door to the kitchen swung shut behind her, she finally noticed someone on the couch. Startled as much by her own lapse in attention as she was by the person themselves, she just stopped short and stared at Demare. Not that she knew it was Demare - although she had some dim recollection of a baby similar to this person in apearance.

Demare was about to take another hesitant bite of the cookie he held in his hand when he heard a light woosh sound coming from his blindspot. Someone was there? Too lazy to move, he waited for the person to come into view. Once she had, the cookie he held dropped to his chest before slipping down onto the couch cushion. For a long moment, he was quiet, staring at the woman as he tried to think of who she was. A look into her eyes, however, made him remember.

One would have to be blind or stupid not to remember those eyes. The eyes that, to him, could poison a man's soul should the beholder look at him wrong.

Sighing heavily, Demare took up the cookie again and stuffed it into his mouth, picking up the pouch before sitting himself upright and brushing some crumbs off of the cushion.

"It's been one hell of a long time since I've seen you," he muttered softly, idly fingering the now broken and cracked pendant he wore.

"Yes," Chandra nodded, switching the plate of apples to one hand like an exerienced waitress. "It has been a long time, Demare. Have you come to grips with yourself in that time?"

It might have sounded like Chandra knew more than she should, but she was simply asking from experience - toddler to older child was time of change.

Demare couldn't help the grunt that came after that, a bit of a smirk curling up on his lips. Funny she would ask that... Particularlly at this time, when he was having trouble keeping a leash on Clare.

"It's been interesting," he said, his wings fidgetting behind his back as he leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees and this forehead on his hands. "My other side is starting to rebel a little bit, and I'm beginning to think I'm growing a bit soft. Aside from that, I think I'm getting there."

The odd smile faded as he thought about the "adventures" he had when he and Clare had split from the body. He'd never seen Clare that way... So childish. So... free. The moment they were returned, the angel had grown upset and depressed, and ever since that day... It was as if he were starting to hate him.

"What about you? You seem to have matured further since I last saw you... Don't take this the wrong way, but you almost seem more alive."

Chandra moved to sit lightly on the arm of the couch opposite Demare, the plate of apple slices moving smoothly to sit precariously on her lap. She picked one up and ate it, enjoying the crunch, before she responded to Demare. She took that time to study him, to reach over into Death, and truly look at him. It wasn't particularly informative - only confirming what he had already mentioned about an other half.

"I have grown," Chandra confirmed, looking down at herself. "And I was - for a brief time - truly Living, but I was killed. I am now, again, not one of the Living. I do, however, retain the memories of my time as one of the Living. It makes interacting slightly less confusing."

She looked back to Demare. "And this body is more... fresh, you might say. I am better able to preserve it against the reach of Death."

Taking another slice of apple and studying it, she could not help but ask, "What brings you to the Legend HQ?"

A chill ran down his spine as he felt her look at him, feeling the cold brush of death against his very soul as she seemed to look deep into him. The woman was creepy... but that's what he liked about her. That and the fact that she was probably the only Legend that he could remotely relate with; while she dealt with the dead directly, he had memories of walking amoung them.

Demare was curious of what she was referring to, wondering what exactly she meant by being one of the Living. Was her body a mere husk like his was? Or was she dead, both in body and in soul? He decided against questioning it, feeling that if she wanted to mention anything further she would on her own. Folding his hands together, he rested his chin on his knuckles.

"I was bored," he replied with a small shrug, empty eyes searching the room for a moment. "Cla--... I wanted to see if anyone might be around, I guess. It's been a really long time since I've actually been here. Yourself?"

"I find that I miss the touch of Life," Chandra admitted, narrowing her eyes at Demare. She didn't like to trust others with intimate knowledge of her motivations - but she had asked the question first. "I no longer am able to spend long periods of time alone. So I come here to encounter others - to pretend I am one of them."

Finishing off the last of the apple slices, she stood and leaned over to place the empty plate on a coffee table by the couch. Instead of sitting back down, she continued to stand - her arms crossed over her chest.

"Is it hard to share a body with another?" Chandra asked, mostly out of pure curiousity. "How does one decide who gets to be in control?"
PostPosted: Sat May 06, 2006 1:39 pm

"Tch." No longer able to be alone... That was almost how he felt, but for different reasons. When one lived in Neko's house, it was nearly impossible to be by one's self. That, and when you shared a body with someone else... It took a lot of work to be 'alone'.

His wings twitched and flexed a little bit when he heard Chandra's next question, his eyes turning themselves upward to look at her. For only a short moment, he looked sad as he thought about that.

"It's not that it's hard," he decided, finally throwing himself backward to lean against the back of the couch as he crossed his arms over his chest. He slid down into a slump as he continued to explain. "I mean... we knew each other before we were reborn like this, so it makes it a lot easier. As for who gets control... At first we had a little schedule kind of thing. Now we just fight over who gets the body. I win most of the time, but lately he's... It's like he's changing. There was only one other time I can remember him using force for anything, but I don't think I've even warrented that yet."

To fight another soul for control everytime you wanted to do something with your own body? It seemed inefficient to Chandra and she said so.

"It must be a waste of energy, to fight with your own self like that. Why not split up and make use of a second body?"
PostPosted: Sun May 07, 2006 11:55 pm

"Pfft!" That was a laugh. Waste of energy... "What energy? The soul doesn't carry the same kind of energy that a body does. I think the Japanese call it... chi? No, wait. ...Well, they call it something. Anyway, we're not wasting strength with our squabbling, so it doesn't make much of a difference. Pretty much we just push and shove until either the body itself makes up its mind, or one of us gives up. ...Kinda sucks when we're both pretty stubborn."

His cold heart skipped a beat at the question. Split up...? Demare narrowed his eyes at her before turning them toward the ground. If only she knew the half of that trouble.

"I... don't want to," he said simply, then decided to tell her about the little 'adventure'. Uncrossing his arms for a moment, he held up the gold pendant she had given him. "Remember this? Those stones you got from the Land of the Dead had a soul locked in one of them. Somehow, it managed to force me and Clare out of this body and into... a couple of stuffed animals."

...That was so embarressing.

"That's why it's kinda broken now... but anyway. We spent a couple of months in those things, and... I guess I got lonely. Do you have any idea what it's like to live as a part of someone your whole life, and then suddenly be split apart from them? Clare was... He was happy, but..."

But Demian had been miserable during that time. It wasn't just the fact that he was away from his closest friend, but that he had no idea how he managed to even live as long as he did away from the body. There was a reason he never wanted to look for a way to split themselves apart; he didn't feel comfortable telling anyone about that, however. Not yet.

Chandra's lips curled briefly up into something that might pass as a smile. "Souls have energy if you know how to use it. I do agree that arguing does not diminish it. I did not mean it so literally."

She paused, fingering The Book's cold metal chain with a delicate hand.

"Yes, I remember the stones. I was curious to see how they would turn out. Do you know where the soul is now?"

She ignored Demare's obvious unease with the idea of being split from his other half, this 'Clare', for the time being. To her, it was a less interesting topic than the soul which had come from the gem.

Demare had to think for a moment. Neko had to do something special to get it out, as it had grown fairly strong while being 'dead' for so long. He could hardly believe what she'd done, though; the demon, while surrounded by this white aura or something, simply reached down into the body's throat and yanked the soul out with her bare hand. Then, she sealed it away in... oh!

"He's in some sort of amulet," he remembered. "The stone on it is some sort of relic or something..."

"Interesting," Chandra said. "I wonder is he can be communicated with. It would be informative to figure out how he had been sealed and then about his subsequent escape."

She blinked slowly several times, starting to feel the fatigue that dogged her lately. It was difficult fighting her naturally nocturnal nature.

"Why is it you are so unhappy with being alone, but your other half is not? If it is a matter of familiarity or loneliness he should be affected as much as you, correct?"
