The palace of the Sultan of Amir is nothing to be trifled at. Amir boast many artisans of many trades and the palace shows them off thusly. From the sweeping silken curtains to the unique pink marble of Quantz, everything about the palace speaks of wealth, luxury and indulgence.

But be fooled not by exteriors, for the Sultan Jamar is known to be both wise and shrewd. Though known for his generousity, the calvary and navy of the Nation of Amir are more then capable of keeping their doors sealed if they so choose. Of course, the barbary pirates are also under their care and it is a foolish captain who seeks to avoid tribute and thinks to escape them.

The justice room is where the Sultan doles out his justice daily. Served by his Vizier, the people see him both as ruler and as a divinity from Allah. His guests are treated to entertainments and foods they would not dare to dream of, but his public face is nothing to what lies beyond.

For beyond is the private quarters of he and his court as well as that of his harem. Where a hundred woman wait for a moment of the Sultan's time, to please him, to perhaps become his wife. But instead, the Sultan tends to spend his time with the herds of horses that run wild outside the city, the strong horses that are tamed by the kumpania of gypsies that are blacklisted by their very blood.

A bronzed older man reclined on the sofa, looking indulgantly at the woman who swayed and danced before him. Another sweetmeat reached his lips, but it did not enter as another man entered the room. Dressed in the cool clothing of the Desert, the man wore no shirt, only a loose pair of trousers that fitted into his hessian like boots. Around his neck was a jeweled stone on a rope, but other than that, he seemed completely out of place in this luxury.

The man waved the woman away as he sat up, no longer bored but quite interested. He coughed, but wiped it away with a silken handerchief. "Have you found her?" His voice was raspy and though he looked fit if one looked close, they could see the dark circles around his eyes that spoke of ill health.

"Aye..."

"Well?" He motioned dramatically, his arms waving around. His manservant came near and whispered in his ear for him not to get so excited, it wasn't good for his heart.

"We have arranged with the Holdine Imperials to arrange for an escort. She should be home within days."

"Stupid..." He hacked again, taking several moments to get his breath. "They cannot even keep their own people at rest they must lock them like wild tigers."

"Yes, Sultan." The man agreed with his leader. "But what about Mikhail? He has disappeared as well." The Sultan waved him away. "What care have I for that fool."

"He is the child's betrothed."

"He is a damnedable fool! If he wasn't brillant with the horses, I would have him killed years ago."

"Sire..."

"He is nothing like his father. It was because of his father that betrothal was enacted."

"Mhm..."The man merely stood there, his fists clenching tightly as he thought about Mikhail, the man before him and what had become of this beautiful city since Jerriska had fled. At least the old fool seemed to be on his deathbed.

An older woman sat on a bench, surrounded by handsome men much younger then herself. The men were fanning her with palm leaves as she read through a book, smiling to herself, every once in a while. The dust would kick up and the pages would flurry before settling back down again.

She paid no heed to the garden within which she was placed, the elaborate trees, flowers and exotic animals long since accostumed to her. Long white hair trailed down her back but when one looked into her face, they would not see a crone but merely a distingished looking woman with piercing dark eyes.

Ever so often, she would look up at one of the men, who would proffer a drink and then she would turn back to her book, pointing at something, turning as if talking to someone, only to stop, frown and turn back to her book.

"Ma'am..." A strongly built man placed a gentle hand on the woman's shoulder. "...you should come inside, it's getting late."

But the woman merely shook her head. "No, Eron I will wait." She smiled though and patted the seat beside her.

"Ma'am, she will not be here today." This time at least, she nodded.

"That is so, but I will merely wait." The man sighed with frustration but sat beside her, keeping her company. Eventually, the female patted him on the knee.

"You miss her too."

"Aye, I do Mistress. These many years have been lonely without her." He looked to the side, at the guards before continuing. "It could be the lead was true, that she is indeed dead." But the woman shook her head, and tapped a finger to her heart.

"She is still here, as well you know." She tapped his chest as well, and he sighed.

"She comes back, there could be war either way."

The old woman nodded, but said nothing, merely looking at the book in her lap. "What will be, will be. The legends will be told."
