[I'm not sure about all the details, but in my local newpaper recently there was an article about a little boy who was playing "superhero" by himself in his bedroom (complete with a scarf tied around his neck as a cape) and was later found injured because his makeshift cape had strangled him for goodness knows how long.
Mom tells me today that the newspaper reports that the little boy has unfortunately died from his injuries.
The whole incident is just scary to me: the child in my opinion was old enough to be playing by himself, unsupervised for short periods of time (I think the report says he was five). And the game he was playing was an innocent one (or has yet to be proved otherwise). Yet the little boy still lost his life. I know that I personally have done dumb things in life, as a child and as an adult. Any of those things could have resulted in my accidental demise.
Discuss:
Have you ever done something dangerous that could have killed you (whether you were aware of the danger or not)?
Is there anything you would have done differently as a parent? Do kids need 24-7 supervision??]

That's sad.. and it has to be hard for his mother, cause she is probably questioning herself.
I was.. a stupid little kid razz I would swing over a ravine in the woods, with a 15 foot drop on a rope that we didnt know was sturdy... It was, but my friend slipped once and fell.. in the ravine there was debris from a tornado that kit a while ago. It was covered with mud.. but still.. scared the crap at out me when she dropped. I used to jump down a whole flight of stairs with pillows and such at the bottom.. I knew that if I didn't jump hard enough, then I could get hurt. Regardless it was funn! Lol..
I don't think that kids needs 24-7 supervision... but that.. playing Superman.. I dont know.. you'd think that it would be safe... neutral

I was full of "great" ideas when I was little. A miniature master mind, I was. xd sweatdrop
I used to convince my brothers to jump down a flight of stairs with nothing at the bottom to break our fall. sweatdrop If you hop of roll...it's not so bad.
I did something similar to that swinging across a ravine thing...We would jump from bank to bank of the creek. That was probably the safest thing we did. xp
I think I would have been horrified if one of us actually fell, though. Did you all keep doing it even after that??

Well, with as hyper as I used to be when I was younger, it's a wonder I don't have any permanent damage.

OMG I've done the most stupid things as a child. Here's the dumbest most dangerous thing I did when I was little. OK...I used to live in San Diego, Cali in this huge apartment community. The building I lived in didn't have that many kids my age so I used to play alone a lot. Well there was this old guy, who was really nice to everyone and I used to go see him and he would give me candy. We used to play in his apartment and he would show me a bunch of old things he had collected. I also used to take Hula lessons and would show him my dances. Now that Im older I thank God he wasn't a psycho. I could have been kidnapped, raped, or murdered! Everything that guy did are things people do to lure kids and take advantage of them. I can't believe I was so stupid.

But I've done some of those things too. Hell, if you're not experienced in using knives, anyone, no matter what their age, could have an accident w/ a knife. xp
This reminds me though of the two times I stapled my fingers... sweatdrop ]

It's rare to find someone who isn't "psycho" who did the things he did. It's good that he was a sane guy who just liked kids. Of course, these days I think things would be different....]
