I think that valedictorians can lower other people's self esteem who have tried their best all their life and then find out that they're actually not it. Wouldn't that be so disappointing? It would for me. I don't think that any schools should have them since it could and definitely will lower some people's morals.
On the other side, valedictorians are good since it provides friendly competition (even though sometimes it might get a little un-friendly), and then give the valedictorian a sense of pride and success. Of course that's only one student out of the whole school, but the process also teaches all the students about friendly competition and probably that there's always somebody better than them.
Oh, and another bad point is that the valedictorian "might" get too cocky about his/her achievements, but hopefully, that doesn't happen too much, if not at all.
So, as I stated before, I agree that valedictorians shouldn't exist. Post your ideas on this thing that some schools have created for the students to try and achieve.

Even though that will NEVER happen... sweatdrop that is the problem neutral maybe if they chose a valedictorian that have a good personality too by asking around or something *shrugs* i dunno
