My whole family loves books. We have several bookcases full of books we actually read. Many books I read my kids will read. We used to go to the liabary a lot but because we swap books we just buy them so that we can read them when we want and not by the due date. Many of us are reading two or three books at a time.

Right now I am reading the Thrithteenth House by Saron Shinn. She is a great writer. I have read all her books except the Angel series and I own those books and I am getting around to it.

I just recently finished I, Robot (and just in time, too; the cover was coming off). Now I'm back to reading Shougun (which is falling apart as well stare ).

James Clavell is an excellent writer, and his writing draws you in until you feel like you're there, experiencing the plot along with the characters. The resolution isn't obvious early on, like most books, because there aren't any "good" or "evil" sides in the war being portrayed. There are Daimyou, Samurai, the not-yet-of-age emperor, and the random Christian monks that go around converting people. The main character is practically a minor character, so it really has a nice edge to it, and a good writing-feel, as well. Also, he stopped cursing/refusing to bathe so much, so now he noticed how dirty many of the European habits are. XD

I, Robot was good, but it was a bit dated for my tastes. Instead of bringing me back to a time period like Shougun does, I, Robot sort of tears you between two time periods; the language is that of the not-so-recent past, while the ideas point towards the future. The language wasn't so absorbing as much as distracting...but I really did enjoy the ideas in that book. whee The "You are an infidel, human!" robot rocked.

I'm reading House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III
I'm prolly gonna finish tonight.
I absolutely love this book!
I makes you think and as soon as you think you've chosen a character to side with, he switches character.
Then you see why they're doing what they're doing.
I feel like I've become more compassionate and more willing to give people the benefit of the doubt while reading this.
I know it's a very basic thing to do that, but sometimes we think we're so aware of others that we become numb to others' feelings.
