The sound of falling water slowly intruded on the reddish-brown cheetah's dreams. She tried to ignore it, enjoying the first relaxing sleep she'd had in days, but with gentle insistence, it demanded she wake up and move.

Sighing softly, she opened first one eye, then the other and yawned hugely, stretchign each limb carefuly. There were still muscle twinges where muscle had been bruised or rulled, but nothing as painful as it had been the day before. Well, she thought, that was good. Once her hind legs were properly stretched, she padded over to the pool and bent down to get a drink.

Cold, sweet water slipped down Umeme'charaza's throat as she slowly drank her fill. Once she finished, she waited for the ripples to settle and studied her reflection. The fresh scar over her right eye wasn't as bad as she'd first feared. It would never entirely fade, but now she could see how very close she'd been to losing her eye when her head had struck the rock. The tiny scars across her nose were older.

"Now, how did I get those?" she wondered aloud. No matter. They wouldn't effect her survival. And in this green place (she couldn't think of it as a hell anymore somehow), she was certain she had a better than average chance of survival.

Her stomach growled loudly, startling her out of her musings and she laughed quietly.

"Guess I go find some food now," she murmured quietly, wondering if Jani would come ot visit today.

At the first rays of Dawn the deep green cheetah had gone out for a hunt. he had of course every intention of going to see the female again, but first he had to hunt. His hunting technique never changed, and the boars never seemed to widse up to his tricks either.

With long leaps he was sprinting through the boughs towards the clearing, a small boar clasped in his fangs, the back and body of the creature flung accross his own. Whe he had arrived at the clearing though, he had discovered the little femme to still be sleeping. He reallyy didn't wish to desturb her, so nestling his kill between thick branches he dove to another tree and lay in it's crown to rest and wait. There was nothing more he needed to do this day at least.

Here on the edge of the clearing though the sun was brighter than in the deep green jungle and he soon closed his eyes, letting the sun beat a hearty trail accross his strangely pattered fur. Of course he was desturbed when the female shifted, birds moved along with her and he paused to admire the way she walked. He had lost his grace on the ground in place of a grace in the air. He stared silently, suddenly realising he was spying, he coughed and leapt from the tree daintily "morning" he smiled, it was a charming sort of smile though it also looked a bit guilty. He felt like some espianage cheetah watching the female. She didn't have to stay here and he was pretty sure she could look out for ehrself.

He coughed "uhm i bruaght breakfast" turning quickly to avoid her catching the look of, embarressment perhaps? he dove in to the opther tree and dragged out the boar "Hope you don't mind boar again, it's the best meat in the jungle really, plus..well plenty on it" he grinned sheepishly, he hoped she didn't know he had been watching her, he hadn't meant to really, he just, wisehd to make sure she was okay, which in itself was unusual he usually looked out for number one, and he, well he was the only person he had ever looked out for before.

Shadowstar1313
Umeme'charaza jumped slightly as the dark green male landed nearby and spoke. I wonder if I'll ever get used to the way he just suddenly appears, she wondered, looking faintly sheepish. She ventured a shy smile and brightened immediately when he mentioned breakfast.

"I don't mind boar at all. It tastes better than gazelle and I'd be willign to bet it doesn't run as quick either."

She set into the food happily, positioning herself in such a way that they could easily share. As she ate, she voiced some of her thoughts.

"Since I'm going to be staying here for a while, I'm going to need to learn about the prey here. Not just boars, but anythign else that counts as food. And," she added, feeling chagrined, "I'm going to have to learn how to hunt with all these tres around. I'm more used ot open, empty areas to be honest."

((Thank Hime. I love my little Kere too. *briefly wonders what meepy thought of her idea*))

Syrius Lionwing
Jani'Esquillo smiled "well there are quite a few meals to be found" he paused and ate a little himself, careful not to get too much blood on his pelt. He had to stay clean and scentless to keep the leopards and otehr jungle cats off his scent "There are birds that run the grounds and snakes of course, boars and sometimes hers of small antilopes. There are lots of things to hunt" He smiled sheepishly looking around, this clearing was an alien place to himhe could not hunt heer any better than she could hunt between the trees "This is a rather communal watering place, many creatures come heer to drink, the leopards as well as prey but I think, once you are feeling better that you will be able to hunt here. Or perhaps I could teach yuo to climb?" He grinned, he had never taught anyone how to climb before. he hadn't been taught himself he had been forced to learn, he was pretty sure he could teach her if she was in good health though, if she wished to.

Clearing his throat he went back to eating silently chewing every chunk of meat he pulled from the beast. "I can uhm.." he paused eating thoughtfully again for a long moment "I can bring you a kill until you feel better of course.." his ears flatteend against his head and he went back to eating silently feeling embarressed, he knew if he was injured he would begrudge the help but then he was excruciatingly independant. "That is if you would like that" he cleared his throat again a sort of cough escaping his throat as he tried to hide his embarressment, she probably wouldn't appreciate his help, she was obviously fully capable of hunting and killing herself if he just gave her a little guidance.

Shadowstar1313
Umeme smiled and wiped a paw scross her bloody mouth.

"My friend," she began warmly, "I'm as out of place here as a fish trying to live among birds. I'll happily accept whatever help you are willing to give. Though..." she paused thoughtfully, "I'm not sure I'd be very good at climbing and tree-dancing the way you do. And I have to confess, the idea of being that far from the ground makes me shiver."

She continued eating and considered the other information he'd given her. A leopard could be problematical. She very much doubted that all the leopards in this place would be like that Karama she'd met yesterday. So, she thought, I find a good hidey hole here that'll cover me sight and scent but doesn't look like the sort of place prey would try hiding. There was a little hollow near where she'd slept last night that might work. Well. Time enough after breakfast to check it out. Instead, she turned back to Jani.

"I hate to impose on you for my food everyday. But the pulled muscles in my legs and back disagree. I'm afraid that I won't be much use at hunting for another several days at least."

Shadowstar1313
Umeme'charaza looked thoughtful at the mention of a plant that could hide her scent.

"If you could show me where that plant grows, I think I will be even more indebted to you than I already am, my friend."

She smiled and stretched out slightly. She couldn't imagine why he was looking and sounding so bashful.

"Maybe I'll let you coax me up there one of these days. To each their own, after all. You're pretty graceful up there from what I can see." Now she pulled a long, mock-mournful face, hopign to make him laugh. "I have a feeling I'll look pretty silly up there though. And I won't move anywhere near as god as you do."

She turned her attention back to the remains of the boar, suddenly shy.

Syrius Lionwing
Jani'Esquillo grined a bit, he was a little vein to say the least and the fact that a femal thought him graceful, even one he just met made him feel rather proud of his prowess. Twitching the tip of his tail he smiled and tilted his hea din tot he jungle "if you're up for a little walk I will help you to get some" he stated though he couldn't help but notice that she too turned ehr head away "I'm sure I have never seen anyone as graceful on the ground as you Umeme" he touched her shoulder with his nose gently "if you are finished eating that is. I'll dump the rest of the carcass in the jungle the ants will clean it up and leave this place free of the scent of blood. Damn jungle cats will herde towards it."

Standing, he rolled his shoulders a bit, the mucles in his forelegs physicly tencing as he did so, he wriggled his front toes, he was ready for a walk, though he would much have prefarred a tree hop. He knew he could not expect taht of her, especially since she was injured. The green male had a want to take care of her, he almost felt a bond to the female, they were so different yet she was willing to give the jungle a try, he doubted many otehr cheetahs would be willing to walk the green paradise.

Shadowstar1313

((*I'm here, Syr! Had to eat. *curls up on meepy and purrrrrs* What did meepy think of my idea?))

Umeme smiled and got to her feet. The idea of a walk appealed to her. After all, rest was all well and good, but exercise had its place in healing too.

"Lead, on, Jani. I have a feeling this plant of yours will make life considerably easier for me."

She felt her tail tip twitch with anticipation. There were definately new things here to learn. And she was going to learn as much as possible.

Syrius Lionwing
((hehe sokies thought you might have left ^_^!))

The green male smiled, he was glad she was so willing to follow and learn. Turning around a bit he headed for the opposite side of the clearing. It would be easiest to go this way for her. He hop skipped along, not seemign like he was in pain but certainly walking much more heavily than he did in the trees. "It's a wonderful plant, it smells very fragrant, in a good way, I usually sleep behind a curtain of it, keeps the cats away, but it can be picked and put any wheer there is good cover. It grows pretty much every where. Got really nice flowers at this time of year too but the leaves have a plesent scent to them." He beamed, he was enjoyign teaching her the ways of the jungle and they soon slipped in to the undergrowth.

"It's not too far but stop me if you're tired and we can rest, you seem to have had a nasty accident." his brow futrrowed, perhaps he was subtly asking her about what had made her so injurred, but he wasn't that subtle he was simply stating that she was hurt. He really was quite unusued to chatting ameably to anyone. Infact the female had certainly been privvy to some of his longest conversations.

Shadowstar1313
Umeme chuckled as she set off to follow Jani.

"I suppose being lightnign struck could be called a nasty accident. According to oen who saw it happen, my fur was crackling and sparking for a while afterwards. I don't remember it though. I mean, I remember seeing the lightnign flash, but after that, nothing."

The young female swallowed back a lump of bitterness. That she had lost all memory of her past life still rankled. She was grateful to be alive, but she couldn't help feeling lost. After all, she was startign over almost entirely from scratch. Then, in a rapid change of mood, she turned to look at her companion and asked brightly.

"You said this plant is in flower this time of year? What do the flowrs look like? I've never really seen very many flowers out in the savannahs."

Syrius Lionwing
Jani tilted his head "you were hit by lightning?" he blinks confusedly almost dazed that such a thing could happen "you are lucky to have survived" he replied frowning a little "I have watched the bolts streak accross the drylands from the trees. They hit the trees some times too, but you can usually tell which tree they will hit, the trees sort of, sort of cry when they are about to be struck." he couldn't describe truely what he meant but the trees did groan as if they knew they were going to be hit.

Leading the way through the undeergrowth he was silent for a while until a sweet, though rather gentle scent hit their noses. Soon they were in the center of a tree draped in a vine like plant with tiny white flowers all over it "this is it, it's called a jasmine it has these flowers at this time of year they fade later but the leaves have a delecate pepery smell to them." he smiled and bounced at a tree trunk suddenly making it shiver, and causing the vines to tremble at which tiny flowers fell from above like a snow cloud landing softly on both their fur. Grinning in a some what playful manner, he couldn't help but chuckle she looked like she had white flecks on ehr fur insetad of black spots. He hopesd she appreaciated the little shower, it wouldn't last too long the flowers that fell were ones taht would fall soon enough they were still surrounded by white sweet smelling fronds, it really was beautiful to look at and breath in.

Shadowstar1313
"Yes, I suppose i was lucky. The jackal who saw it happen told me that I had tried to outrun the flash just before I got it." She shrugged as best she coudl and continued matter-of-factly, "Most of my injuries are from simply hitting the ground when the flash threw me. And I can definately say that I plan on being very careful during any future storms. It was not an experience I care to duplicate."

As they moved further into the undergrowth, shebreathed deeply, enjoying the soft delicate scent surrounding them.

"Jasmine? That a lovely name for them. They look like tiny stars."

Umeme couldn't help but laugh delightedly as Jani triggered a fall of the flowers over them. It was so totally unlike the savannah, but at the same time, she was enjoying herself. And she giggled even more at the sight of Jani's dark green body covered in white flecks. Smiling like a very pleased kitten, she glanced at Jani and waited to discover how they were to harvest the Jasmine.

Syrius Lionwing
((lovin this rp btw! would we be able to continue tomorrow tho I need to head to bed **tired** I have it all saved for us in a log **so many word logs it's not funny**))

The large green male smiled, glad she was pleased with the 'snow fall' effect he padded up to her in that strange, hop skippintg way and nudged a flower from her ear "it is a beautiful name isn't it" he whispered, he had never thought about it before, he enjoyed the flowers and the plant it helped him, but he had never thought it beutiful until the female had pointed it out. There was silence for a moment too long and the agile male leapt suddenly clearing his throat in a sheepish manner he clambered up one of the tree trunks standing on a branch and causing further stars to fall from above. Once theer he started to clip the odd strand with his teeth, making sure to take young fresh shoots that would last the longest. Once there was a small pile he leapt down again and started to lift the strands.

"you carry some and I'll carry some okay" he smiled picking up a strand and wrapping it carefully around the femmes shoulders so it wouldn't get under her claws. He stopped after one and held his own neck out, though he crouched a bit, he was taller than the pretty female.

Shadowstar1313

((Oh we are so gonna continue this one, Syr... XD I don't even need/want to do my odd evil idea anymore))

Umeme started a tiny bit as Jani nudged the flower frm her ear, then smiled and watched with growing admiration as he began to harvest the jasmine. Once he was back on the ground and had strung a vine across her shoulders, she smiled as she understood how they were going to carry this harvest. Carefully, she chose a vine and with exactign care, looped it over Jani's neck. As she worked, she caught the plesantly peppery scent and smiled. Yes, this would certainly cover her scent and hide her well.

"You know," she said musingly, looping another vine, "I think I could get to like living here very quickly if there are all these tricks to help a body survive. Will the smell of this stuff fool prey too?"

Syrius Lionwing
"Oh yes, they smell it but because it lingeres every where they don't really notice it's there." He smiled brightly flickering his long tail the very tip twitching left o right as he looped the last vine around the females neck. "There are alot of tricks, but once you know them living here is paradise." He grinned sheepishly, The green male fully beleived there was no other or better place to live than the jungle, though he was of course a bit biased. he had never lived any wheer else. "I wish you could see it the way I do, from the branches, watching the sun ise over the canopy, it's simply beautiful" he looked at the femme and cleared his throat "Lets get back to the clearing." He shook his fur the tiny star like flowers falling from his green coat making the sweet scent fill their noses.

He turned then, heading down the same path they had already wandered, his tail tilted in just a slightly more cocky manner than it had when he was going towards the jasmine. he was pleased, glad she approved, maybe she would stay? He would certainly appreciate the company of his own kind. Was it too much to hope that she would stay at this point? perhaps, but maybe, just maybe he could convince her to stay in the jungle.

Shadowstar1313

((Damn laggy connection... *sigh*))

Umeme'charaza followed her companion, enjoying the walk and looking around with eager, curious eyes. As she breathed in the scent of the jasmine strung over her shoulders, she found herself wondering if she really would want to go back to the savannah.

I don't think I would have found this place if I hadn't lost my memory, she thought slowly. This jungle was so very different from what she was used to.. and at the same time, she relished this time as a challenge. A time to learn. And, she had to admit, she was greatly enjoying Jani's company. What had seemed so jarringly odd in him before was slowly becoming almost normal. Why shouldn't he fly through the canopy that way she flew on the ground? It was all a matter of adapting to one's home. And there was no denying he'd adapted magnificently.

I wonder if he'd even let me stay once I'm healed if that's the choice I make? He might not want competition for food, she mused.

Syrius Lionwing
The Canopy once again started to lighten their way and the large green male stepped in to the bright sunlight of the clearing "I will have to teach you a few path ways through this jungle" he smiled sheepishly "Incase you have need to find me." He paused after saying that continuing to pad in that strange hopping manner towards the pool. The waterfalls sounds danced in his ears and he turned to grin playfully at the slender femme. "Perhaps once you are healed you could make a perminant home here." he cleared his throat "Not that it's my place to ..well..you know it's not my jungle but.." He paused again looking confused and almost befuddled by his halting speach.

"Right..uhm we need to find a den" he cleared his throat once again looking exceedingly sheepish, the rocks by the falls might be hopeful, noone would notice you there the falls would mask your sounds and the jasmine your scent" He looked back at her shifting his eyes quickly to the falls and the boulders and natural crevices that they caused. "It's a shame you couldn't come to mine..I mean theres plenty of room for two, I well, just not sure if you could get up there" he licked his lips trotting off in that strange manner, he really did look quite strange walking upon the ground with that heavy footed lope."Perhaps it's time we found you a resting place to heal, your leg must be aching after that walk" he kept padding along eyes focused upon the craggy surfaces.

Shadowstar1313
The young female throttled back a surge of hope. He was going to let her stay if she chose! Resisting an urge to purr and skip around like a kitten, she forced herself to keep her gracefully serene gait.

"Your offer is very kind, Jani" she murmured softly. "The rocks near the waterfall were my first choice for a den, but I hadn't known how to cover up my scent. And wet cheetah is not always the most pleasant of smells. With the jasmine, that problem is neatly solved."

She continued on, considering the rest of his words carefully. He had a safe den big enough for them both to be comfortable. Quietly, she probed her muscles and wondered if she could make it there? She wasn't feeling at all tired.

"I think," she began slowly, "that if it is not too far away, I might be able to get there if you really don't mind sharing a den. I'm not really that tired or achy right now and stretchign the muscles out with exercise will help them heal."

Syrius Lionwing
Jani'Esquillo's ears flickered a bit and he smiled sheepishly "I have no doubt you could get there, it's the climbing I would worry about but..I can help, if you're willing to try." he tailed off again, she wanted to come and stay with him? Well that would certainly make things easier, he could take care of her then make double sure no big cats got near her and it would be much easier to bring food to her in his den rather than to this treeless clearing. He paused waiting for her to catch up to him. "If you think you are up to the challange I can show you where I live" He grinned broadly, he too, though he didn't know she resisted, manged to hold back a delighted little jump "You're welcome to stay with me as logn as you wish." He smiled, though a part of him whispered that perhaps he was going too swiftly, he hadly knew this female? She was hurt and needed his help, was there any better reason to offer his home?

If the little femme watched closely she would have seen the whole time he was offering his services that his upper arm mucles were tenced. He hadn't expected ehr to say she wished to come with him, but then, he was worried that she would say no. he had never had a friend before, a companion and certainly he had never met another cheetah willing to give the dence jungle a try.It worried him that perhaps she was just 'pulling his tail' but she seemed happy, delighted even and very willing to travel despite her pains to his own little den in the jungle.

Shadowstar1313

((I wanna live in scotland! gonk And Kairi lion! Squeee!))

Umeme smiled and gave a small shrug, purposly keeping her tone light and friendly as it seemed that Jani was feeling tense about something.

"It can't hurt for me to try, though I'll probably very happily collapse once we get there."

She paused and watched him avidly, her tail twitching with excitement.

"How far away is it?"

Syrius Lionwing
((trust me you dont XD!))

The big male rolled his shoulders and grinned, he obviously relaxed now, she seeemd very ready and willing to go, he was pleased, infact he didn't think he had ever felt so exxcited. Noone had ever been to his 'den' before, his hide away, his safe haven from all and sundry. "It's not too far a short walk in to the jungle, it's quite near the center, it's a little dark at ground level but we won't be there for very long" He grinned sheepishly, he would help her any way he could to get ehr in to his canopy home. He was certain she would like it and he, well he would definately appreciate the company.

"Come, just tell me if you get too tired, i don't want to hurt you" he smiled sheepishly once again, he meant what eh said, he didn't wish the pretty femme to be injured in this little walk throught he jungle, the whole idea was to make her comfortable if the journey was too long though she might strain herself. He was VERY averse to giving her more pain. Turning his noce towards the jungle, he headed forwards away from the falls towards the very center of the dence green jungle. he had forgotten all about the jasmine draped around his neck but he collected it at times any way, it wouldn't go to waste.
PostPosted: Wed Apr 26, 2006 3:32 pm

Umeme smiled and followed willingly after Jani, craning her head around curiously as they went deeper into the jungle. As they walked, she found that she wasn't feeling nearly as tired as she would have expected. In fact... the walk and change of scenery seemed to give her new energy. She did have one small regret. The jasmine, however delightful smelling, was keeping her from scenting anythign else at the moment. She recalled what Jani had mentioned about jungle cats and fervently prayed that he would either notice them approaching in time to hide... Or that the others cats would stink enough to overpower the jasmine.

((sorry this took so long hun I'v not been on much with my cat being sick crying !))

Jani'Esquillo's green texture melded with the backdrop as they moved further in to the jungle. It was obvious really why he could live in these surroundings, unnoticed uncaptured. His coat was very well suited to the situation, at times he vanished, the play of light and dark against the green of his coat. He turned occasionally to check that the femme behind him wasn't too tired givign an encouraging smile. He had never really walked this far through the jungle He usually leapt through the canopy but he knew no matter what wheer his home was, though very few knew of it's exsistance. Certainly no jungle cat knew of it. The large male paused mid step to listen and grunted turnign around to the slender femme "quickly, sit against that tree there" he was swift to react, nudging Umeme against the tree before he lay over her, gently, covering her brown fur with his own green. To any naked eye, they were not there, the scent of jasmine covering their scents.

A large black cat wandered on past, pausing only to breath in the scent of Jasmine before it moved along, oblivious of the cheetahs presence. After a short time, Jani stepped off the little femme and smiled solemnly "Are you alright? I didn't hurt you did I?" He tilted his head lightly "we're wandering in to the jungle cats territories now, we may have to pause a little more often than we should but we arn't too far from my home now." He paused licking his lips. It was certainly more dangerous on the ground, for him any way, than in the trees, in the trees he could escape anyone whom spotted him, on the ground he was a virtual cripple.

((Not to worry Syr. Take care of your kitty and don't worry about having to answer posts. =^^=))

Umeme held her breath as Jani covered her to protect them both from the strange cat. When it was again safe to move, she gulped and took a deep calming breath. That had been far too close for her own comfort. She managed a tremulous smile and shook her head, speaking barely above a whisper.

"No, I'm not hurt. But I will be very glad to get to your home."

She got to her feet and stood, muscles tense as she waited for Jani to start off again.

"Beleive you me, friend," she whispered, moving her face closer to Jani's ear so he could hear her, "I'd happily become a tree dancer in a second if it meant avoiding a fight with that cat or his ilk. Lead on."

Jani smiled. He licked her ear in a comforting manner "I wouldn't let him hurt you." He smiled wanely moving on towards the dencer jungle. The light was thin here and the dark green male vanished and reappeared more often than before though he seemed to be trying to stay visable. His natural colourings and strange lope were of course easily detected, something which in the trees was eliminated. His long tail flickeerd and lashed as at last they came to a sort of clearing. Though it wasn't one really, above them a single trees branches blocked out all but the weakest of light. The tree was huge and would allow no other plants but a few sparce ferns to grow in it's wake. "This is my home"

He looked back at the muddy coloured femme and couldn't help but grin. The tree inspired awe even in him and he lived there. He called it the life tree, it provided him life, a place to live and had lived here for years beyond his comprehension. Great vineds grew up and around the bark, old brwon moss covered limps spotted it. "Do you think you can climb? I'll help you" he smiled, trying to seem confident. He could climb it easily himself but with Umeme, they would have to search for foot holds and use the old thick vines. It would be a task, but if he could only get her up there,s eh would see why he lived here.

((thankies hun *snugs*))
PostPosted: Sun Apr 30, 2006 12:35 pm

Umeme stared at the tree with wide eyes and stood for a moment in silent bewilderment. She'd never thought trees could grow so... so big! After a moment, she shook her head and began to study the tree carefully.

"Well," she began in a soft, conversational tone, "I'm nowhere near the climber you are, but I think I can make it. I can already see a few spots that look strong enough to offer me a grip. Can you go up first in roughly the same line that would be safe for me? I can follow you. It'll be slow, but easier that way, I think. Certainly safer if I don't have to worry about weak branches or vines."

As she spoke she moved closer to the trunk and began flexing her claws. Oh, she was going to ache after this, but the added safety woudl be worth the sore muscles.

The green male nodded, padding up to the tree he started to climb the tree, though he didn't go his usual way, which was straight up, he could clamber the bak without a care with his claws. He followed a thick vine for quite a way which rose on a slope before he jumpped, hopfully a distance short enough for the injured female to a thickbranch higher up. He jumpped a few more branches before finding another horizontal vine which virtually lead like a walk way to the top. "did you see all that?" He called down, his voice echowing off the tree before he came racing down the trunk virtually vertically landing beside the muddy coloured female lightly "I'll follow you up okay? Iwon'tlet you fallI promise" he smiled. He was growing rather attached to this femme, he had never had a friend before whom was a cheetah any way, somone like him, somone whom he could truely trust and converse with and even teach his ways. Perhaps the gods had sent her to his jungle. It didn't matter, she was here now and he was very glad of her presence.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 30, 2006 3:34 pm

The slim female watched carefully, her sharp eyes making note of the distance between each jump her companion had made.

"I saw, Jani," she called back. When he landed beside her, she didn't even twitch a muscle. Instead, she smiled somewhat grimly and began pulling herself up the trunk using the vine. Her paws faltered more often than she liked, but she held onto the vine with claw and even teeth when she had to. When she reached the first jump, she rested for a moment before bunching her muscles and leaping to the next branch. She felt a hind foot begint o slip as she landed and dug her claws into th branch, forcing herself to remain upright. Already her bruised muscles were beginning to scream in protest.

She waited a moment to catch her breath and made for th next series of branches. Once they had been cleared and she was to the last vine, every muscle in her body was trembling from exertion. Please let it not be much further, she thought. When this is over, I want to sleep for a week...

As she climbed Jani followed her, thoughhe didn't take the same path as her he glung to th ebark of the tree, always a little below her. He knew if it came to it, he could catch her and take her to the ground. The green male could tell by the way she was moving that she was pained, and it hurt him to see her so sore "Nearlly there he whispered as he watched ehr jump the last branch . "Just jump between those two branches you will fall a litle but don't be frightened theres a bowl in the trees crown. He clambered a little further up the tree, his adapted claws fanning out and holding tightly to the gnobbly trunk. He touched her shoulder lightly "One more jump and you're home Umeme." He wanetd ehr to think of this place as home, he certainly wouldn't object to her staying there.

He sudenly longed for company, and this slender female was at least partially willing to provide it. If she was wiling to stay, well, he was damn pleased about it. He had never longed for company before, being his own cheetah so to speak but this injured femme had awoken some, deep seated longing for company of his own kind.

Umeme nodded wearily and whispered back, "One more jump."

Gathering what remained of her flagging strength, the reddish-brown cheetah jumped. Remembering what Jani said about a tiny fall, she kept her body relaxed and soon enough landed in the tree bowl. Once she was certain of her footing, she flopped over onto her side and lay still, resting. After a moment, she began to chuckle.

"No doubt about it, Jani, I won't ever be a tree dancer like you. Later, I think we need to figure out an easier way for me to make that climb."

She sat up long enough to shake what was left of the jasmine vines from her neck and turned a grateful smile upon the green male.

"Thank you for sharing your home with me, Jani," she spoke softly. "I really appreciate it... Even if it does make my paws ache."

She wrinkled her nose slightly to show she was teasing and began to inspect her forepaws. They were bleeding slightly around the claws from the unaccustomed exercise. Nothing too bad or potentially life threatening though. With a small sigh, she fell to cleanign the blood away. One didn't survive long anywhere smelling of blood. No matter how think a trace of blood.

The green male dropped in to the bowl close behind ehr and smiled "you are very welcome" He smiled. "I hope it's comfy enoyugh, I'm a bit of a bacholor" he grinned sheepishly. The bowl of the tree was large, fully large enough to pace at least tree long jumps either way. The branches surrounded them on either side. In the center though, the tree had been cleared, the leaves did not meet and sun streamed down in to the bowl, a large ray of pure brilliant sun light. Hung fromt he trees branchest and dangling like a curtain were more fronds of jasmine. Bird song filled their ears and several peach faced love birds passed in and out of the green leaves. "They are a great warning system they will let us know if anyone approaches."

Laying down slowly next to Umeme he gave an appologetic smile and let his ears flatten tightly against his head "I'm sorry I have injured you more" He whispers leaning fowarwards and cleaning her claws with his raspy pink tongue. "I will find a way to help you up and down easier. But for now you must rest. You must stay up here for a few days where it is safe so you can recover. Itwas selfish of me to drag you so far when you still have injuries" He shook his head gently, cleaning the last of the blood from her paw. "If you are hungry i can hunt for us now, but you must rest" perhaps he was stressing too much tahts he must rest? She was a clever girl after all. He doubted many cheetahs would be brave enought o scale the tree she had just clambered up.

Umeme smiled gently.

"Why are you apologizing? You didn't hurt me. Besides, rest will put me to rights again."

As he helped clean her paw, she took the opportunity to study his home. To her inexperienced eye, it seemed even lovlier than the clearing with the waterfall. And it was prettier by far than the savanah. She bit back a chuckle as Jani kept insisting she rest. She bowed her head in mock docility, though her golden eeys sparkled with mischief.

"Yes, Mama-Jani, I'll be good and rest."

She bumped his shoulder with her nose and smiled to take any of the sting from her words.

"And after that climb, I feel like I could east an entire zebra..."

"I'm sorry I didbn't mean to sound patronising" the green male looked overly embarressed. He hadn't meant to undermine the femme, she knew just as well as he that she needed rest and food. He looked less shy now though, her touch a welcoming feeling. He leant down and touched her ear with his nose, staying silent unsure of what to say to her. Would she even wish to stay here forever? Probably not,s he had after all said she missed the savannah. Could he even ask her to stay forever? Perhaps it was too soon to even consider the option that she would wish to stay here in this unusual environment for a cheetah.

"Zebra?" Jani grinned broadly "I can do that" He stood then, his tail tip lashing, the very end flickering back and forth behind him as he stoo and stretched out his long supple limbs. "I won't be long. Listen for the birds, if they call out they have seen something, just relax and stay still, they will pass without a problem. They never come here. I'v heard they think this tree is haunted" He grinned broadly, perhaps he had a little to do with that, he knew how to make the branches move in a strange manner. That would be another thing to teach her, but for now she needed sleep and sustinance. he would have to travel quite far to get zebra, they usually rested in the shade of the trees before a days grazing. He hoped he wouldn't be too late to capture one, it was a little late on in the day for zebra. he waspretty sure he could find a little one at least.

Diving up one of the trees branches he grinned back down at her in a some what, chivelrous manner "I won't be lon" he puurred dissapearing in a blur of green fur and a small scattering of leaves.

Umeme grinned and winked up at Jani.

"I know. I'm just playing a bit. If nothign else, I'll have to stick around to get you accustomed to playful teasing, my friend."

She watched him vanish into the trees and sighed. If he got hurt tryign to find her a zebra, she'd feel terrible. Stil, he was used to hwo to move and hunt in this place. If he said he could do somethign, she was going to take his word for it.

With another small sigh, this time accompanied by wincing and stretching, she adjusted her body to get the best use out of the springy boughs and curled up. Maybe it was time for a little nap.... Within seconds, she was sunk deep in slumber.

The sun had almost set by the time Jani reappeared through the trees. Zebra was a rare catch for him, rather large and difficult to pull through the trees and avoid leopards he had soldierd on and now he came tot he great tree, his home. he was tired but he had braught the femme within what she needed, sustinance, help in ehr recovery. He smiled to himself dropping the zebra first in to the bowl of the tree before dropping lightly in himself.

Of course, she was fast asleep. he smiled, the zebra wasn't going any where, it didn't reek of blood or death yet so it would be fine at least until tomorrow evening before he would have to dispose of the carcass and left overs.

Streching his own claws, he contemplated sitting beside Umemme, would that be rash of him. He decided yes it would eb so went and curled up at the far end of the bowl on a bed of soft, plush green leaves his head resting on his oddly formed claws. The green male watched the injured female for a long time, a smile forming on his handsome maw. He was very glad she was there.
