Well, this topic was brought up on the old guild thread, and there were some varied responses. For example: Falathrim LotR slash? *collapses to the ground and begins writhing in pain* Dranyari And I would just like to say, I'm a slash fan. *dives behind a wall* However, I will only read very well-written slash or stuff that's meant to be humorous. And I draw the line at the twincest some people are fond of... *grimaces* I happen to be the other half of a pair of twins myself, so it doubly freaks me out. I figured we'd continue the discussion here. So, thoughts? Comments? Links to slashy art or fics? Post 'em all! By the way, make sure to give any fics or pics a rating, and name the pairing. I personally would prefer not to stumble onto a peice of artwork, no matter how excellent, of say...Gandalf and Gimli. Especcially an NC-17 rated one. eek

*blinks*
Gandalf and Gimli? *grimace*
I have to say that I enjoy slash in general, but I don't really like LotR slash. Like I said before, I don't really read LotR fanfics, so any type of 'ship is out for me.
But I haven't really opened the fanart door for myself... I suppose that would be okay.
Does anyone have any fanart that would be good for a beginner fanart, um, looker?

I don't mind Slash all that much, but as I said, I won't go looking for some Slash to read. It's not my favourite. It's not bad though, as long as there are no lemons <_<

Zurgiea I don't mind Slash all that much, but as I said, I won't go looking for some Slash to read. It's not my favourite. It's not bad though, as long as there are no lemons <_< Aww...but everybody needs a little lemon from time to time! sweatdrop Ok, not really. Most of them are horribly written. If you can beleive it, I once tried to write a lemon slash fic. Well, ok, I DID write it, and I've gotten a pretty good number of reveiws on it. I won't be posting the link though. Truth is, it has some grelvish in it (*sigh* I miss the days when I didn't know any better) Curumo, I wasn't sure if you were looking for slash or non-slash fanart, but here are some links I found really wuickly in my favourites. I think it's mostly Sil fanart, and there may be one or two slash pics, but nothing graphic: http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/art/h/o/hopehoover/hopehoover.htmlhttp://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/loth/g/o/goldseven/goldseven.html As for slash art, there's: http://www.squidge.org/~praxisters/TBlotr.html, but a lot of their stuff is pretty graphic, and I wouldn't recommend it to a "new fanart looker", or even a lot of experienced ones. They've got practically every pairing, even the ones that kind of worry me, and every peice of art is incredibly well done. On the other hand, their desktops are excellent, and not as slashy.

eek The ones in the "goldseven" gallery are really good. I particularily liked The Coming of Fingolfin(yeah!), Humiliation(aww, so sad...), and Nirnaeth Arnoediad(nooo!). There were like 2 slash pics. And I'm not sure if I want to know the answer to this, but what's a lemon?

I've never heard of slash before, but I think I have a pretty good idea of what it is from reading various posts...
So, I can't really have an opinion on it, since I've never read one. ^^;

The thing i find with slash is that the odd time I'd begin to read it, it was horrible and scared me for life. There are alot of characters I cannot see together. I know Tolkien doesnt describe the characters as being straight, but he doesn't describe them as being gay either. I also think that since Tolkien was a Catholic he probably didn't write any of his characters with the intent of them being gay. (Not that it's a problem or anything sweatdrop )

I just took a look at Nirnaeth Arnoediad, and I feel like I'm going to cry sad And you're right, you probably don't want to know. But I'll explain anyways. You see, when two people love each other, and they want to show that love, they... Ah hell, I don't like sugar coating things. Sex. Graphic sex. In this case, between two males. Yup.

Then what do you call marrying or wanting to marry someone of the opposite sex? What she means (and I know this because we argue about this at least once a week), is that Tolkien never says things like, "There was also a strange Elf, clad in green and brown. Legolas, a messenger from his father, Thranduil of Mirkwood. He was also straight." (The quote isn't word for word, but you get he point). It's one of the many lame arguments I use when trying to validate slash. She's mainly referring to the characters who weren't married.

I'm a slash fan myself, I confess. Though the main reason I enjoy it is merely because I got tired of the typical cookie-cutter boy/girl romance nosense that gets thrown at me on TV, the movies, books, etc. Slash is something new and different. Besides, I fancy attractive male elves with long shining hair together- it's very artistic and aesthetically pleasing to me.
I don't read grapic stuff- not into NC-17 or lemons. No, I don't go through Tolkien and say: "Lo- there is slash potential here! I see hintage!" My friends and I only do that with anime series. I just kind of go with things if there is nothing to directly contradict it. Like Aragorn/Legolas- popular pairing but I don't see it, at least not for Aragorn.
I like Haldir/Legolas, Elrond/Erestor, Erestor/Glorfindel. I write some slash, but not much LotR slash yet.
What can I say- I like it.

I AM one of those people who looks for slash hints, and, other than the two of them going off to "look ahead" for an hour or two, there's absolutley nothing in the books to hint at any relationship. The films, on the other hand...well, let's just say that I used to have a folder full of potentially slashy pics between the two of them. The meaningful looks, the hand holding at Helm's Deep... (when Legolas gives Aragorn the Evenstar). Yeah, I'm pathetic. sweatdrop And I'm an Erestor/Glorfindel fan too ^_^

The farthest I've gone in reading Slash fiction are for Anime and I don't touch Lord of the Rings Slash fics at all! Lemons concerning heterosexual relationships between Lord of the Rings characters then I'm totally fine with but slash I stay away from.
