It was spring and as such, this meant uncharacteristically warm, beautiful, and all around sunny joyous days. Ah, spring, flowers blooming, birds chirping, fluffy bunnies making other fluffily little bunnies and...falling lovebirds?

"Ka-THUNK," Paxton hit the ground nosily for the fourth time today. The lovebird flinched a bit, but other than that nothing was to be heard from him as he stood up and rubbed his rump. He had been at it all morning, this flying gig. Yet, no matter how many times he tried to take flight it didn't seem to be working. There was that one time in wingers where...but now nothing!

Grumbling under his breath, Paxton once again took to climbing the large tree which he had been using as a launching pad. He didn't flinch as he added more splinters to what could be assumed to be his hands, they had become so grubby from all the falling into the dirt he had done, perhaps he should start wrapping his hands from now on. Yes, that would defiantly keep them safe.

Once again the lovebird faced the open branch towards the north. Wind speed...go, temperature...go, he began to run towards the end of the quivering branch, run way...clear....he jumped. Oh, for a moment he soared...but I must emphasizes only for a moment.

Ah, poor Paxton, he really should have made sure they landing pad below was clear before he took the plunge.

Meanwhile, Laial was having the time of his life. This was the first time he had snuck out with Heiko, and he obviously needed to teach hir how to sneak out and play properly. Which was a very nessicary skill for hir to learn if shi was to stay with Laial and follow him around.

First, he showed hir how to slip through the fence Maji had put up. That part wasn't too dificult, except for hir wings that were a slight challenge. Next came the general moving along quickly. Since Heiko was a Leviathen, this was also a challenge. But they manenged to escape at a fairly quick pace.

Now they were at the park, and he had been 'teaching' hir how to scramble through undergrowth and how to stay in undergrowth if you wanted to watch something without being seen. They were practicing this on a squirrel when they heard a crash of some sort. Running to see what it was, Laial remembered that this was a skill-learning activity, so he slowed down and forced Heiko to as well. They both snuck into the bushes to watch whatever it was without being watched themselves.

Unbeknonst to Laial, they settled in for bird-watching.

"Uhh-hun-hrmf...." Paxton whimpered as he remained frozen sitting where he had landed. Why was this so hard today. Longingly the boy looked up into the big blue sky. Ah, an endless stretching expanse of unknown, the occasional puffy white cloud doting it's landscape here and there...Paxton belonged up there, along with those clouds. With a deep heaving sigh Paxton hoisted himself up and off the ground, twitching as a sharp shooting pain rushed up the back of his legs, when he ran his hands over them to brush off the dirt. Bleck, somehow he had managed to skin the back of his legs as well as his hands, one elbow both knees and his left cheek.

In addition to coverings for his hands and arms, Paxton decided that he would to find some sort of covering for his legs too. He would ask Ma' to take him shopping this weekend! Surly she wouldn't object...he would just have to ask when she was...erm, in the right mood. Of coarse the right frame of mind may have been a better choice of words.

Now, our little colorful friend would have turned and been on his merry way again, if it had not been for the crunching in the bushes his keen ears picked up. Living outdoors, a good majority of his short little life had by now taught him to become well aware of his surroundings, and the sound of something approaching in the bushes made him jump.

Paxton really should have waited to see if this thing in the brush had been some squirrel or little chickadee living in the brush. Yet patience had never been a strong suit of the little lovebirds, especially at this age, children you know. With out second thought Paxton reached over for a nearby stick. "SHWACK!" Down came the sound of the stick, as it was smacked down into the undergrowth...oh my, maybe he shouldn't have swung so hard.

"Raaae!" Laial let out a very strange-sounding yelp at being hit on his head-plate with a stick. That hurt! Fighting instincts taking over, his tentecles swarmed on the stick like killer ants on an intruder. Pulling on the stick, he stood up to tell whoever did that off. "What was that..." he trailed off as he finally got a good view of his attacker. Oh, the bright colors of the lovebird didn't startle him. No, it was just the simple fact that the child was a lovebird. More emphasis on the bird. His entire body froze up, only the fact his eyes were widening signaled that he was alive.

Heiko blinked at Laial, turned hir gaze to the coroful kid, and repeated this several times. Shi still didn't get it. Why was he so scared? I mean, sure, the colorful thing did hit him with a stick, but that wasn't a reason. Nexen hit him all the time and he just picked her up and put her on the shelf, what was the deal now?!

What the?! Paxton's eyes grew ever so larger as Laial's long slender appendages wrapped themselves around the protruding object Paxton held in his hand. It was only until Laial's head surfaced that Paxton realized he was dealing with some sort of person...not an alien life form. (That had been his first guess.)

By the looks of it, a D-corp kid, probably with some sort of Sea creature DNA. Paxton thought fondly of back to that day when Naito had driven him down to the beach...those anemone thingies, they had arms like Laials. Yet, anemones were much brighter than Laial.

The first thing Paxton should have done after realizing that he had mistaken Laial for some sort of animal, was apologize. However, Paxton didn't feel like apologizing, how dare this kid....older kid no less (he had a dragon...Paxton didn't have is dragon yet) sneak up on him. "What was what?! You should be explaining yourself to m--..." Paxton's voice trailed off.

What the heck? Was this guy all right? One minute snapping at him the next....Paxton, daring not touch him with his own two hands, used his stick again to gently poke Laial. "....are you alive?"

"Until you eat me?..." Paxton murmured the words under his breath. That didn't make sense, what was this person going off about eating for? An then it hit him.

The position Laial had taken, the fear in his voice, the posture of his body. Laial thought Paxton was going to eat him. Yes, there was no question about it. Laial was acting more or less exactly like Paxton that day Raja's cat had eaten a robin in front of the bird. Except, Laial was reacting upon his flight instinct not fight. In other words, he was terrified not angry.

Paxton stared at Laial for what must have seemed like hours, yet, it was only minutes, and suddenly laughter bursted forth from his lips. "AH-HA-HA-HA-HEE-HEEE." It continued on and on, for several moments. Oh, to Paxton the idea was so ludicrous. All this time grown up he had been terrified that something would eat him. Now, and now, it was the complete opposite. Paxton had all the power now.

It just went to show the little love bird how much he really had changed. How much he had accomplished, he no longer really felt fear about things, he was strong and he knew it, growing stronger every day. His anger was still a bit of an issue, but something that was possible to correct.

Paxton kept laughing for several more minutes before he finally stopped, clutching his sides oh man that was funny. "I'm not going to eat you." He grinned at the boy and his dragon. "Please don't be so ridiculous. Your older than I am and still have a fear of being eaten...sad."

"What the?!" Paxton was at a loss of words, actually he was at a loss do describe ANYTHING which was happening to him. He had never been 'attacked' before, much less attacked by several long tentacles. It was a...creepy feeling to say the least.

"Whaie!" Paxton fell down to the ground, with a thunk. It hadn't hurt as much as falling from the tree, but it still stung. He winced slightly, and bit his lip. These things attaching to his arms and legs...they were getting tighter and it hurt. Paxton now began to hyperventilate. Sick, weird...twisted person, just what was this kid doing!

Paxton grew frantic. No, he wasn't laughing now, but he wasn't particularly crying either. He flapped his wings angrily, puffing himself up to make his appearance larger. "Just what do you think your doing!?--"

The ground was no place for him to be, he may have still had trouble flying, but if he could just get up in the air.... (You always learn best under pressure, or that's what Ma' had said). He kicked his legs hard and twisted his arms, hoping that the strong action would either cause Laial to tip foreword, loose an arm or...hopefully, let go of him.

Heiko 'neeeeeeaaaa!'-ed in dismay. What was Laial doing? Whatever it was, it didn't look friendly. When did Laial become violent?! Or was he always this way? Shi hoped he wasn't... shi would have enough trouble fixing things as it its.

Laial grit his teeth and leaned back to counter the effect the wings were having. "Making you pay," he hissed as he pulled back again. Unfortunetly, this is when the massive weight of his shell decided to ally with gravity, which resulted in him crashing to the ground, jerking his tentecles (and consiquently Paxton) towards his shell.

And him.

Paxton didn't get it. Making him pay? He hadn't meant to do any harm. He had only done what he thought was appropriate for the situation. Should he say sorry? No! Of coarse not. Big boys didn't say sorry, Paxton was strong, he could take on Laial he was st---"Aaaah!"

Paxton flew through the air landing onto Laial his face becoming smooshed in the others T-shirt. The lovebird was small, but not that small and his weight probably didn't feel all that great against the nautilus. "Nng."

Paxton groaned groggily, ow his head, he couldn't even remember what had happened a second ago. He twitched slightly as he pulled his arm trying to pick himself up...but it was hard to move so he lied there splayed out on Laial, his massive wings overshadowing the others body.

Oh dear. Laial squirmed under Paxton, "GET OFF ME!" This wasn't going as he planned, but it was teacching his dragon a crash course in why not to get Laial ticked. For getting Laial ticked was generally a bad thing. As he proved now.

But how to get this thing OFF OF HIM eluded him. He began to roll back slowly on his shell, very slowly. Similar to a spring being wound. And just like a spring, he flew forward with tremendous speed. First, unwrapping tentecles though, didn't want to get pulled further than he was.

And even then, he landed on his knees.

"Ueh?" Paxton opened his eyes just in time to feel himself being rocket propelled foreword...or erm, back wards in his case. Oh god, what was this thing doing now. It was apparent enough when Paxton landed back on the ground several feet behind him, his body crashing to the ground. My, my hadn't Laial chosen a convenient time to let go of Paxton.

The lovebird cringed as his body made a nice loud thunk against the earth. Ow...it hurt, this really hurt more than any of the crashing and smashing he had done earlier. It stung too...no that was just Paxton's elbows and back, they were bleeding from where he had skidded against them.

But never the one to loose faith in his masculine abilities Paxton wearily sat up, he felt dizzy so he leaned foreword, catching himself on his hands and knees. Right in the same position as Laial now. Paxton's lovely brown eyes glared up at Laial. Paxton was upset now, but not foolish. He hadn't done anything to deserve this...not this while he was so hurt and Laial was so fine.

Paxton raised his wings up, fluffing up his feathers. "Bully."

Contrary to what someone might believe, Laial was far from fine. His problem was his shell, the very thing that had protected him multiple injuries before, was now threatening to kill him. The crushing of your interior organs is never a good thing. Already breathing was getting difficult.

Tentecles swarmed again, but this time around his shell in a desperate attempt to releave the pressure that slowly but surely was suffocating him. It actually worked for a second. Not very long, but enough to get a new lungful of air to live slightly longer.

Heiko chirped in anxiety as shi looked around as what to do. Shi had never been in such a situation before! And thus, had no idea what to do. Logic was out of the question.

Both of them managed to forget the lovebird standing a few feet away.

Paxton whipped his nose and sniffed as he smeared a bit more dirt across his face, as he turned and walked away. He managed to go a couple of feet before turning back to shout something else at the bully but instead of screaming a well chosen obscenity Paxton was frozen speechless. What...what was wrong?

For Paxton could tell something wasn't right with Laial, the creature which a moment ago had been so vivid and rearing for a fight now seemed panicked and freaked. He was struggling to as if something horrible were about to happen. Paxton looked to where his tentacles were stretching....his shell? Huh? What was wrong with his shell? As if Laial's gestures and struggles weren't enough to alert Paxton the boys dragon said it all.

Now, Paxton may have been a moody and brooding love bird but...quickly, he rushed over. "Stupid....idiot..." Paxton grumbled under his breath as he tried to tip Laial upright. The other boy could say whatever he wanted in reply, it didn't matter Paxton wasn't going to leave him like this.
