A matron walked slowly through the courtyard, stopping at a low bench next to a trellis. Flowers climbed up the vines letting off a sweet heady scent. An olive skinned toddler leaned carefully towards the flowers to get a better sniff.
"028, be careful, we don't want you stung before you're playdate. 018's going to come and play with us today."

Xenres toddled down the path towards the courtyard, his small gripped tightly within the larger hand of his matron. He finally came to a stop before the other toddler and stared with wide eyes, a thumb in his mouth.

Midori blinked at the other toddler. For a moment there was silence as the two toddlers stared at each other. Blinking first Midori moved to the side, assumming Xenres was waiting for her to get out of the way of the flowers.
Midori's Matron smiled at the other Matron and patted the seat next to her. "Sit down, what's the gossip with the older toddlers?" she asked.

Xenres blinked as the other toddler moved, reveiling a bed of flowers. He continued to suck his thumb as he eyed the other toddler. If he knew how, he'd ask his matron what a playdate was...
Xenres' Matron smiled back and sat upon the offered seat. "Not nearly so much as there is with the older teens." She gave a soft sigh and push a hand through her hair for a brief second before dropping it again. "Let's see... there is gossip about how their first day of class went. I rather pity that teacher and hope I never find myself trying to keep hold of the toddlers' attention, let alone teach them something."

Midori frowned. Why didn't he look at the flowers? Weren't they pretty? The toddler humphed and bent. With a quick snap she picked one of the flowers. "'ere," she said quietly thrusting it at Xenres.
"Oh I know! It's hard enough taking care them as is. Though, " she glanced fondly at Midori, "I lucked out this time. She's quiet most of the time."

Xenres blinked as he jerked back with surprise. He stood there for about half a second before he reached his free hand out to take the flower from the otehr toddler. Now, what was he to say? Oh yeah... "Ummm... 'ank 'oo."
She grinned at that and looked at the toddlers as well. "This one seems to be quiet as well," she mused. Her first two hadn't been quite so... calm...

Midori beamed brightly. "Midori!" She chirped, happy to find someone that liked her flowers. She blinked for a moment before leaning forward and tagged Xenres.
"It." She skipped away towards another flowerbed, demeanor changing as soon as Xenres accepted the flower.
The matron laughed. "I bet it's a nice change after your first two. I can't believe you have three kids all at once! Someone must either think you're really something or hate you." She shook her head mildly. "Isn't your oldest just about ready to be tested?"

Xenres blinked in confusion as he was "tagged" and the other toddler ran off. What did "It" mean and what was he to do? He just stood there awkwardly as he kept his eyes on the other toddler, his hand fiddling with the flower.
She smiled in wistfulness. "Oh indeed, a nice change. And sometimes, I honestly don't know. Sometimes I feel like everyone must hate me, but there are those rare, wonderous times..." She grinned, then snorted with sad amusement at the question. "I think she's already been tested. She 'vanished' for awhile - and I got some questions on that from my second - and came back recently, changed, so I think it happened then." She turned towards the other. "Don't you have one that's in the same age group as my first?"

Midori made it all the way over to the flower patch on the other side of the walkway when she turned around. "Chase! Chase!" She crowed at Xenres jumping up and down. "Tag!"
The matron shook her head. "No, your thinking of my sister," she replied honestly. Blinking at the toddlers she began to giggle quietly. "Aren't they so cute? I don't know where this sudden burst of activity came from though."

Xenres frowned slightly in confusion and took a few steps towards the other toddler, the flower gripped tightly in his hand, forgotten.
"Ah..." was the first thing out of her mouth. "You two do look like, so it's hard to tell at times..." She grinned and chuckled softly at the sight of the toddlers. "Very cute. I'm not certain where this burst of activity came from either, otherwise I might try to get some as well, if only to keep up..." She sighed softly. Keeping up was getting harder and harder, more so if you didn't know you were behind in the first place. What was she to do with that teen?!

Midori waited patiently, smiling at Xenres.
"If absolutely necessary. I'd rather have the energy go away after all."

Midori waited patiently for Xenres to catch up with her before skipping a few feet away again. "Tag!" she crowed, "Can't catch! Can't catch!" Hopefully the other toddler knew what the game was. She played this with her Matron at bath time a lot...Though her Matron didn't seem to find it as fun as she did.
Speaking of Midori's matron, the young woman barely caught her self yawning. Much as she tried to the warm sun and peaceful breeze were about to put her to sleep.

Xenres scowled briefly. Tag? What was that? That part about her thinking he couldn't catch her was wrong though. He picked up his pace until he was going towards her at a full toddler waddle-run. He would catch her! He would! The thought of what he would do once he caught up never crossed his mind.
She blinked and looked at the other matron with a tired grin, feeling drowzy herself from the warm sun and gentle breeze. "Nice, isn't it? Hopefully they will tired each other out soon."

Midori giggled as Xenres finally started chasing her. The toddler hurried among plants that dotted the courtyard. It seemed like it would go on forever, but 028 suddenly tripped over her own feet and fell on the paving stones. Quickly she pushed herself up but the gap between her and 018 had closed considerably.
"Mmm...." came the drowsy reply. "Sounds good.."
