Okay, I've been saying that my dog is a terrier x.
Well, just came back from the groomer's.
I had asked her if she could figure out any breeds he might be.
"I have no clue. Because of his coat I'd say he probably has poodle or cocker spaniel in him... or both." (we have already figured these two breeds as possibilities, but the confirmation is nice)
Then I mentioned he's registered as a terrier x because of his beard.
"Well, those two can have long faces too."
rofl
ooo. Then I weighed him. @.@
31.5 pounds when he's supposed to be 22. AND he's lost some weight already. sweatdrop
But now he looks so cute. 4laugh
I wish a had a digital camera so I could show you all.
So, yes, my dog is no longer a 'terrier x'.
He's now a mutt. whee

With my dog, it went the opposite direction--he was originally labeled a 'cockapoo mix,' but I was unable to see any evidence for cocker or poodle in his conformation or coat whatsoever. I guess terrier/Corgi cross based on his conformation, his almost certainly bobbed tail (he still has dewclaws and no one docking tails would also leave dewclaws) and his head, which looks almost exactly like that of the clipped Border Terriers that we used to know.

@.@
My dog's coat alone is nearly impossible to describe. It'd be better with a picture, best if he wasn't shaved. xd
The one thing I love about it though is that when he's shaved, you can see that the gold on his back is really just a thick stripe along his spine and across his shoulder blades.
4laugh
And when his hair is longer, it's a combination of curly (following the gold stripe and on his nape), straight, and 'crimped' (the silky hair behind his ears, and elsewhere when wet)
He's also got some feathering.
And a fanned, curled tail.
That's about as descriptive as I can get without confusing myself.

Ooo, quick question for anyone willing to answer. Ok, quick question with a lot of history before hand so that the question makes sense. XP
My cat and dog have never gotten along. The cat spent the first six years of her life being the only animal in the house. When we brought Lucky in, she wasn't very impressed. So much so that she refused to come upstairs for the longest time, and because of this, we banned the dog from the basement to give her a safe place.
They don't actually fight. The cat won't even swat him. She just hisses and moans while backing away while Lucky wags his tail as he prevents her from getting close enough to a couch for her to jump up on one of us. Eventually, she gives in and runs away, and Lucky of course chases. He KNOWS he's not supposed to do it, he KNOWS he's going to get in trouble, he KNOWS he's going to be sent to his 'kennel' (aka. under the couch). But he does it anyway, and in the end is doing the equivalent of laughing.
Anyway, that's how the story goes when they're inside, both upstairs, and the cat wants some attention. Outside, they tolerate each other. The cat will even sometimes go up to the dog and sniff at him. Downstairs (Lucky was accepted downstairs this year because he finally accepts that carpet is not a secondary pooping spot) they'll get fairly close to each other, even when humans are around (the upstairs scenario has never happened downstairs o.O)
Okay, now for the weirdest scenario. My bedroom is downstairs, and is my cat's daytime sleeping spot. So if I'm sleeping in, my mom has to open my door to let my cat in (or she'll try to do it herself, which is very annoying) and she'll happily sleep with me. But the door is now open, so Lucky will often come to see me too. So... they're both on my bed, happily snoozing with me (although they seem to have a 'one pet per side' rule - they use me as a border, one on each side of me) Only once has the cat freaked out when Lucky jumped up - but I think that's because he didn't know she was there and landed on her. ><
So, yeah, here's the question: Why is my bed the only place they'll happily co-inhabit? o.O

sad
My poor doggy.
He slept with me for hours.
I thought he was just being nice and all.
But no, he was too scared to go back upstairs and sleep in his usual spots.
Once I got up, I quickly figure it out though: the smoke detector was beeping due to a low battery.
So I changed the battery while my dog hid.
He still thinks the monster is around, so he's following me everywhere.
And when I let him outside, he didn't want back in (he did want in, since it just rained and he hates his paws getting wet, but he was also scared of the monster)
At least he'll get over this monster quicker than the first one. rofl

Today was the first time my dog went off leash at a park.
It was quite uneventful, since I made sure there were no distractions.
And it was only for about 5 minutes, since it isn't an off leash park. ninja
But it was great, since it proved that he can go off leash, with a bit more training.

Question for anyone who actually reads this ><
I've only ever seen JRTs chasing things (on tv, because my entire neighborhood seems to have a thing for mini poodles)
But I've never seen what they would do naturally.
I mean, obviously if they see something small running away, they're going to chase it.
But what if it isn't running away? Would they creep up as close as possible and only chase once the creature can't stand the closeness and run?
Would any/most/all terriers do this?
The only reason I ask, is because I've never seen it happen, so I don't know if my dog is just following his terrier instincts or if it's a combination.
For example:
During a walk, my dog will suddenly stop, lean forwards, and lift a front paw (the classic pointer stance... except his tail). Thanks to him, I'll find the rabbit no problem and stand still as well to let him do what he loves. He'll then slowly creep up like a cat until either I or the rabbit give up and start the chasing scene.
Is this typical of a terrier? I've tried finding information multiple ways, but no one I know owns a terrier or knows much about them, and books and the internet simply say "Terriers love to chase things", but not how.

No, I have NEVER seen a terrier try to creep up on something. Every terrier I have ever met, including mine, ran at potential prey full on and kept chasing when it ran. My JRTs even startled robins into flight and then learned how to jump into the air and catch them.
On the other hand, there are several wirehaired pointing breeds, and that behavior does seem more typical of a pointer or setter. The only problem with that theory is that the wirehaired pointers (Spinone Italiano, Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, German Wirehaired Pointer) are all comparatively rare here.

Seems like he only points for rabbits. confused
He found some gophers last week and nearly ripped my arm off before I realized what was happening ("Oh right. You finally spotted that gopher I tried to show you earlier") He even jumped up about three and a half feet to get into the garden to pursue it further - although he was hesitant because the wood was painted and obviously slippery.
But anyway: Funny story time.
Today on our walk we came upon a dog who was tied up on a leash in its front yard and I swear it was saying "Abba abba abba". Silly beagle pup, how do you know about the seventies?
Anyway, we got two houses away when a flash of white came barreling at my poor doggy. My first thought was "Why isn't it slowing down?" Next thing I know I hear an *thud* "umph" eek The dog just plowed my own! Like a kid on skates that doesn't know how to stop. I guess what surprised me the most was that my dog took it all in stride, he had just stood there and braced for impact.
I don't think I give him enough credit. ><

At least he doesn't try to roll in them. Olly's developed a disturbing habit of attempting to roll on the live toads that occasionally hop through our back yard. Apparantly he thinks they smell nice.

Yes. Finally. I have pictures. YAY. Now please, excuse the crappiness of them - I was using a disposable camera, had signs of heat exhaustion, and I had to resize and crop the pic so that you could see him >< ^this pic makes me want to get a pic of him pointing. He was just walking around in the pic. Heheh, he's wet because he just took a dip in the lagoon. He only goes up to his chest though - likes his feet to be on the ground... like me! *weird*

Yesterday's walk surprised me:
Typically when we come across another person walking their dog, one of us will go onto the road to prevent the dogs from meeting. Usually, it's me when the dog is larger than mine (because I'm still wary about him meeting larger dogs) but today I stood my ground, as did the other person. So we past each other, right on the sidewalk (highly different from any other situation - usually there will be some kind of berth given). I expected my dog to tangle me in an attempt to get a whiff of the dog. But no, he just watched the dog pass by and continued on.
And lately he's been doing a great job with people petting him.
While we were going for a walk when we were camping this one lady asked me his name. I told her, so she said hi to him. His response was to stop right in front of her - he was waiting for her to pet him! (she didn't, but he still allowed for it)
And he doesn't duck as drastically as he used to. ^^

Last monday I took my dog to the company baseball game.
He was our mascot lol.
It was his first time at a baseball game, so he didn't understand why I kept having to leave to 'just stand there', but once we lost too many games we didn't have to play anymore (but still somehow ranked third...) Despite never truly being properly socialized with people, my dog did amazingly well (so well I let him off leash)
The most shocking thing happened first thing that morning. When we first arrived barely anyone was there. Some people were practising while four people set things up. One was a man who at one point walked up to my dog and gave him a pat on the head. My heart raced for a second as I realized what was happening, then realized that in fact NOTHING was happening. Previous encounters with strange men often revealed my dog's skittish side. Tail down, ducked head, backing away sometimes. Although he did duck more with this man than with the children that were around, he didn't show any other signs of anxiety. ^^
