I love a rythym guitar that can morph into a lead. lots of respect for guys like keith richards and gordon gano (violent femmes). in case you guys havent noticed, i am on a big violent femmes kick

I like both. Rhythm is good for just having fun, and possibly singing. Lead is also alot of fun and you get to kick a** with lead lines. It's fun both ways.

well as a bass player i'm more into rythem than lead, there isn't much lead parts for a bassist to play but its fun when there is alright well thats my views i suspose i'm just dragging this out now but I do like to play lead every once in awhile

As a lone player I tend to be dropped in the middle, but If I have backup or a backing track I love to solo. Theres just something prestigious about the "lead guitarist" position. However, as a blues player you HAVE to be able to do both, and in alot of cases do both in the same song.

I think it definitely depends on the song, if its got a good rhythm, say,a 4/4, I'll usually break away from rhythm into lead. But I usually try to stick with the basics during a song thats not that steady...

I'm more of a rythm guitarist strictly because I cannot improvise solos or know how to stay in key well. I'm great at improv for rythm, but I'm not good at staying in key or anything. But if you write me out a solo I can play it in a few minutes. ^.^

I like to mix in my performances, most of the time I'll play the Rhythm out for most of the song for the sake of not messing up with vocals and then play out the solo and trade off with my lead guitarist, or if its a song with simple lead riffs I have no problem doing the lead and vocals for the song.

Well, for now, I still only play rythme. I've only been playing for a year. But I am starting to get into lead. I'm starting with a simple solo for now...the one from Don't Cry by G'NR.
My goal is to become a lead guitarist though...

Xenin I like both really, th eonly problem is that my lead playing spounds bluesy all the times, damn I need to learn more scales. Same problem I have. I don't do alot of modal playnig, so my solos so9und great when backed by classic rock-type rythm, but now that I'm getting into metal it sounds really out of place.
