I was just browsing youtube for some vids, like I do every now and then... and I came across a vid on Systema. I've always been curios to see what it looks like. I believe Delmar said he studied, am I wrong? Well at any rate, it looks pretty interesting. I'd be interested in trying it out. check out the video, and tell me what you guys think, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKqYu01SD-cA very different way of doing things. And it seems its only in England??

Nah i've never stuided but from what I've seen of it in videos before including these ones it's all a ******** crock of s**t.
It pisses me off how people get swallowed up in the whole mysticism of martial arts and actually believe in this crap.
And for the record I've always been Anti Systema!!!

What makes you say that? This looks about as anti-mystical as any martial art, seems pretty to-the-point. Many of the grapples and strikes I've actually used in fights.
I also like the situational training. As far a self defence goes, you never really learn how to fight in a car, in a crowded area, or other odd situations. I've been tought how to fight in a car or cramped area, but many martial arts practitioners don't think to learn about situations like that.

Hylonomus What makes you say that? This looks about as anti-mystical as any martial art, seems pretty to-the-point. Many of the grapples and strikes I've actually used in fights. You obviously haven't seen the footage of that fat t**t. I'm refering to the guy that seems to be very high up in the Systema hierarchy appearing to drop his attackers without touching them. Now I don't know about you but i've never seen that "method" used in a fight. Hylonomus I also like the situational training. As far a self defence goes, you never really learn how to fight in a car, in a crowded area, or other odd situations. I've been tought how to fight in a car or cramped area, but many martial arts practitioners don't think to learn about situations like that. And as far as the situational training is concerned if I was being attacked in a car I would deal with the situation the same as I would in any other live situation and that would be to continue hitting my opponant until he stopped moving. Every sitaution is different so if you find yourself having situational training which is presupposed then you'll find like in any other art, especially Aikido that it's bullshit and is more likely to get you killed than anything else.

That's why it's good to learn a little bit of a wide variety of martial arts. To be able to apply different skill learned for different situations on the fly is a powerful thing, which is why these military-themed martial arts seem to be a mix of several other martial arts.
I have never resorted to a single martial art in a fight. Usually in street fights I use fencing-style footwork mixed with boxing, karate and a bit of kung-fu, then when we grapple I usually switch to an aikido, wrestling, judo mix.
Now, I'm not a master at any of these arts by a long shot, and most of the training was passed-down or under-the-table, with the exception of fencing which I do regularly as well as compete in.

May be taking a trip down to our local systema cluub very soon mainy to give the instructor a beating and steal his client base.
One of my students once went there and the instructor claims that MMA is ineffective and that you don't need to be fit to be able to fight (which i believe the exact opposite).
He also claims that he is able to escape any submission hold.
We'll just have to see if that's the case.........

And SOMETIMES a lucky shot is all it takes.... but thats only SOMETIMES. But to say you don't have to be in shape to fight, is crazy.... I believe its the exact opposite in my book....
