Kotone walked into her room, coughing into a napkin she'd grabbed before leaving the cafeteria. Her throat was still sore, even after lunch, and she'd begun coughing more often. There was no doubt in her mind that she was getting sick-- but whether it was serious or not was yet to be seen.
She threw the books for her morning classes on her bed and went into the bathroom, searching through the cabinet behind her mirror for any sort of cough medicine or throat drops. Finding none, she slammed the door shut and went back into the main room, collapsing on her bed for a moment. She checked her watch-- still a short while until her next class. She yawned again, laying her arm across her eyes, and stayed there perhaps longer than she should have, falling asleep without thinking of the consequences such an action might have.

Kotone stumbled into the room, feeling unusually tired. Whatever virus she had caught had at this point completely drained her. She picked up a bottle of cold medicine from her bedside table and measured out the proper dosage according to the label, then choked it down, coughing a bit again simply from the taste. She set the bottle down and changed into her green school-issue pajamas, then trudged over to her bed, swiped the books off of the surface, and fell in, falling asleep again almost immediately after she turned out the light.

"Aagh!" Kotone shrieked, being jerked awake rather unpleasantly by a sudden, particularly excruciating shock to her collar. She convulsed in her bed, the shock triggering a massive coughing fit after it dissipated. Kotone fumbled for the bottle of water by her bedside, choking a sip of the liquid down and gasping to regain her breath. "Ugh...." She collapsed back into her bed, glad to breathe again.
It's that damn assembly. It must be.... Kotone gave a angry huff and dabbed her watering eyes on her pillow. Whatever the hell happened to excused absences? She wondered just what was going on at that assembly to make them decide to shock the entire student body. It couldn't be good. She hoped it wasn't an expulsion-- more accurately, she hoped it wasn't the expulsion of someone to whom her or Kenji's collars were attached. If anyone else got themself killed, there wasn't anything she could really do but feel sorry for the chap linked to them. She tried not to think about it and closed her eyes again, taking a deep breath and trying to go back to sleep.

Kotone was just waking up when there was a knock on her door. She squinted at the light, not liking it, and curled up with the covers pulled over her head. "Who is it?"
"Kenji."
"Come in, it's unlocked." She sniffed, clutching the blankets closer under her chin. "I forgot the rules on this sort of thing... you might have to leave the door open...." she added.
"It's okay." Kenji walked in, leaving the door halfway open. "It's not like we're doing anything...." He walked over to the bed and put a hand on her forehead, frowning. "You're burning up. What's your temperature?"
"Don't know... I just woke up."
Kenji sighed and found the thermometer loaned out by the nurse's office. He shook the mercury down and handed it to Kotone, who put it under her tongue.
"Wha' happened a th' assembly?"she asked around it. "You okay?"
"Don't talk, it'll mess up the reading." Kenji pulled a chair over from her desk in the corner of the room and sat down. "Anyway... three expulsions."
Kotone's eyes widened. "Three? So that means... six?"
Kenji nodded grimly.
"Who?"
"No one I knew very well... a couple of new kids, Gwen, Sydnie.. and that one Irish girl."
Kotone shook her head slightly, taking the thermometer out so she could talk. The temperature would just have to wait. "How awful.. why?"
"Well, two of them messed up the scheduling system.. and one just flipped out and ran up onstage."
"Ouch."
"Yeah. I hate it when this happens...."
Kotone nodded. "So was that it? Just the expulsions?"
"Nah, the headmistress also put in a shameless plug for the Midori Festival." Kenji rolled his eyes. "Perfect timing, if you ask me."
"Well, she's known for it." Kotone scoffed. "So are we going together again?"
"If you want to."
"It's fine with me. Saves the trouble of having to find a date." She shrugged. "But if we do find someone... it might be nice to get away from each other a bit."
"Very true. We'll figure something out." Kenji checked his watch again and stood up. "Ah, I have to go. Class starts soon-- lucky, you get to miss gym."
"Ha ha," Kotone teased weakly from under the blanket.
"You be quiet. So..." Kenji shrugged. "Get some rest... I'll be back sometime around lunch."
"Bring me a sandwich," Kotone said. "Any kind."
"Fine. More water?"
"Yeah, lots."
"Okay. Take your medicine. Bye." Kenji went to the door and outside into the hall, shutting it behind him. It was odd, he thought, the way he and Kotone acted toward each other. They were so civil toward each other now, save for the occasional remarks, it was almost hard to believe she'd once tried to kill him. Almost.
