'kay.

So this probably sounds supremely silly, but my life's ultimate goal is to live like Jesus did; I want to travel around the country (world?) telling others about the messages he gave us about compassion and peace. I've had my mind set on this for several months now. I've got no interest in living like my parents want me to; i.e., they want me to be rich and put everything else behind me. Having money makes me miserable and nervous. I've never liked having more than about $10 with me. It's odd, I suppose.

My dad has more money than he knows what to do with, he's completely miserable (his only joy in life comes from drinking and smoking and playing cards); likewise, my stepmother's interests are shopping, gossipping about the girls at her office, and the like. Both want me to abandon the life I envision and live their lives.

I've dropped anvil-sized hints and even outright TOLD them that I want to live this life I'm planning; the road calls out to me like a siren, and I can't ignore the call to tell people about the Good Man's messages. If there were ever a time that people needed Jesus' words of love, compassion, and peace, it's NOW!

Now, here comes the actual *problem*: I'm 17 right now (18 in a very short time). When I'm 18, I'll be able to leave the house and do as I please. I've batted around the idea of going a few days after my birthday. Perhaps leaving a note behind after I vanish.

Do you guys think I'm silly for wanting to do any of this?

Should I?

Are my parents right; should I put everything behind me and aim for money alone?

I once read that one can either love God and deny money or deny God and love money.

I choose God, and I feel that he's tellin' me to take this path!

If you REALLY think that God wants you to do this, you should think about a few things first.

Have you consulted with wise counsel first? Proverbs 12:15 says "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice."

Have you considered talking with your parents about it? Remember that God calls us to honor our father and mother both as children and as adults. God says that obedience to our parents before we are adults is better than folly in our youth and listening to their counsel is wise after we are adults.

Have you thought about at least the basic expenses?

Remeber also that the author of Hebrews exorts us not to neglect the assembly of believers, and love the community of the church (Hebrews 10:25). Are you going to be together with other Christians on the road? Are you really making as much of an impact as you think you are for Christ?

I would urge you to first seek the counsel of older friends, your pastor, your parents, and some older couples in your church before making such a bold and rash decision.

Also, remember to be in prayer about this for a good while before doing it. You should feel an absolute peace from God about your decision if it is truly from Him.

I do feel the peace.

It's just that nobody seems to believe me when I say I do. rofl heart

Still, you should continue in prayer. God says it will be a peace that passes understanding, and so if you truly know that God is telling you this and you know that you are hearing Jesus and are saved by Jesus, then you should go. But not before you pray a lot and seek godly counsel beforehand.

I had a bit of an odd dream last night.

I was out on a dark road hitchhiking. Well, at least, I had my thumb out and all of my things with me. But there was no traffic going by. It was quite the dead road; I'm not sure where I was, but I know there were more deciduous trees than evergreen (so it might not have been North Carolina--there are more evergreens than deciduous). I was walking backward with my thumb out and hit this guy. Wouldn't you know--it's Jesus! XP Or someone who looks a hell of a lot like him. We strike up a conversation (I don't remember much of it, though) and he hands me two small books. One has a black cover and one has a red cover with golden lettering on it. Not sure what it said. It starts raining and this umbrella poofs into his hand. We start walking along together and end up in this little place... ********, for lack of a better word. It's a friendly little place, though, and we hang out at the church (Our Lady something, I remember, so it must have been a Catholic church).

The next thing I know, the Jesus guy drags us back out on the road and I can smell the ocean and the sound of the sea. We catch a ride to a beach city (Myrtle Beach?) and we hang out at Risen Christ Lutheran (a church across the street from Ocean Creek Resort, where we stayed this time). He tells me to go ask Linus and Erik for a guitar, and I do; he tells me to start playing it over in Barefoot Landing (near Instant Karma!) and we start getting some money together.

The Jesus-guy goes "Okay, great! Now let's go find a hostel." We walk around the city for a long time searching for a cheap hostel to no avail. We return to Risen Christ and pitch a tent out back to catch a little bit of sleep. I wake up first and go "OMG Jesus, I know what let's do. Let's go and play at Broadway at the Beach."

We hitch a ride over there and do so. Jesus is busy at work telling fortunes (dunno why). We decide that we'll toss together a hippie crash-pad with the money we've earned and SUDDENLY~!! it turns into another Woodstock. O__o I don't remember who all was playing, but there was a gigantic stage stretched across the beach and there were a ton of people singing along and feeling the love. It was more like Woodstock 69, rather than Woodstock 99.

Jesus is all "Groovy!" Everybody involved on the beach concert decides to join together and spread the love to the rest of the world.

It's the ********' revolution, yo biggrin

What I wouldn't give for this dream to come true! D'ya think it was a sign?

Go ahead, man, live your dream! Don't wanna regret not doing it later, do you? Money's worthless if you're unhappy.

Do God's will for your life. The Bible says that love for money is the root of all evil.

the "priests" in my church do that.they stay in people's homes and receive donations off the people.

silly? not at all
although i would like you to consider the heartbreak you may leave in your wake
i would however sugest you study the subject of your quest moreso indepth for the more you learn and come to understand the more you will realize you do not understand (the same applies to myself)
do not limit yourself, reach for the stars and shine

if you are at peace, you are praying, and everything seems fine, then sure

but if i were you, i might consider getting your parents on the same track as you, and don't "drop them a note" after you have left, that isn't such a good idea...

If you really think that this is your calling, then go ahead and do it. But don't just run away from home without any food or money or plan. I'd say plan it out and talk seriously to your parents and pastor about it and take the steps you need to make to make this dream of yours happen!

I'm gonna answer your questions in the order you asked them.

No, I don't think your crazy. Some people were meant to be missionaries, you're just one of them I guess. May God bless you along the way 'cause you know as well as I do that it's not gonna be easy.

If you feel that this is what God is telling you to do, then yes, you should do this.

Heck no!!!!! Money alone is nothing!!!!! Even succesful un-saved people know this!!! Ask Bill Gates. He may not be saved, (or is he? I've never heard anyone say he is or isn't so...) but he knows that there's more to life than just money. He's giving back to the world and trying to make it a better place. He may not be going to heaven, but he's definitly happy with what he's doing.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Why would money be bad!!!!! I know that being all about money is evil, but money by itself is good, very, very good!!!!! David was a king. You think he was a poor king!?!?!? And what about Abraham, i doubt he could travel that much without having lots and lots of money!!! (or livestock in his case...) Of course you should love God with all of your heart first, but also, get money! It WILL help you in today's world.
