Four, four o'clock. Madeline looked at her sheet if all was right, this should be the last appointment on her list. Nero, it seemed, had called and canceled. Something about being busy and would have to have shots later. Madeline wasn't all pleased with the news, but at the same time, she was really glad to have things winding down. Blue eyes scanned the sheet one last time:

Madeline,

**Ms. Preston is a very special woman who has requested extra care and treatment for her daughter Indigo. Please listen to her wishes and fulfill them.

Ah, good thing too, other wise she would have missed the special little note D-corp had left her. So, patient was Indigo, DNA: Velvet worm, Mother: Jennifer Preston, so, Ms. Preston it was then. Ah, it was always good to meet a caring concerned parent who demanded only the best for her child. Madeline smiled happily, she was actually going to look foreword to meeting Ms. Preston and her child.

"Cautious" was one way of putting it. Another good one would be "interested in going overseas without having her kid bring home the herpes hepatitis". Sure, Jenner cared about Indi's wellbeing, but she also had a practical streak that said she didn't ever want to have to deal with a preteen kidney failure if Indigo drank the water in Mexico. So it was she'd sent along a note when the shot announcement came in the mail to let them know that she'd want a little something extra along with the usual MMR, and now here she was leading along a sulky preteen and an awkward dragonet to the clinic.

"C'mon, Indi. It ain't all that bad; it'll just be a coupla little pinpricks an' then you get a lollipop an' we can all go home," Jenner wheedled.

Indigo, unconvinced, dawdled several feet away down the hall, Citrine winding around her ankles and making the occasional curious hough at some smell that caught her attention. "Don't wanna," the velvet worm mumbled irritably. Jenner fixed her recalcitrant child with a frown.

"You may not wanna, kiddo, but you're gonna or the higher-ups will yell at me. C'mon. Let's go."

An enormous sigh escaped the purple girl as she unfolded and refolded all four arms. "...'k," she muttered, before beckoning her dragon on with one of her lower hands. "C'mon, Citri."

Relieved, Jenner turned to push open the door to the room where Ms. Crosette waiting. "'Lo; I'm Jenner, Indi's mom. She'll be along in--" She shot a dirty look at her daughter, who was now moving down the hallway toward them at about an inch a minute. "--just a sec."

"Ah, Jenner, a pleasure to meet you." Madeline smiled, happily. Thank god, finally! A parent at D-corp who had manners. Who knew how to make proper introductions who...had a sulky child.

Madeline sighed. Oh, it wasn't that she didn't enjoy the work she did. But today had been so long. Last teen, she just had to keep telling herself that. Besides, the blonde poked her head out the door to get a peak at Indigo.

Oh my, what a lovely if not moody looking child. Purple skin no less, and the most lovely hair. She didn't look like she would be to much trouble...Madeline looked down at the dragon following. Well, no sharp claws or visible teeth...all right in her book so far!

"Please, please Indigo come in. Don't be shy. The more you prolong this, the worse it will seem!" Came Madeline's voice as she opened the door wide, inviting the child inside. It was true, if you put things off they just started building up. Better to get every thing done with.

Thankfully, Indi picked up her pace (grudgingly) in response to the glare. She still wasn't moving very fast, but she didn't have much more hallway to get down, and in short order they were actually inside the room. Familiar with doctor visits from a previous check-up or two, she slouched right over to the paper-covered bedthing and plopped herself down on it, arranging her tail behind her and looking down at her bare toes. "'K," she repeated to Madeleine.

Jenner just looked relieved, and gave the nurse an easy smile. "Figure it's probably us that should be thankin' you, seein' as you're goin' out of your way to do all this," she said, inching over to a nearby seat before plunking herself down. She threw a look over at the dragon who'd inched into the room after Indigo, before patting one thigh and whistling to her. "C'mere, Citri, sit with me."

The copper dragon looked up from investigating Madeleine's shoes, huffing once...and ambling over to take a seat by Jenner, curling her tail over her toes and watching all of this with open curiosity.

If Jenner weren't dragon-lineage herself, she imagined she probably would've had more problems with Citrine rattling around the house. As it stood, though, she'd had more destructive kids, and house-training a dragon was a refreshing difference from the rest of the insanity in her personal life. "Yeah," she replied absently to Madeline, reaching down to scratch around Citrine's headridges. This provoked a noise not unlike a purr from the copper dragon, who was being very careful about her tail. This doctor humanperson seemed like a nice sort, and there were a lot of breakable things from what Citrine could see of the room.

Indigo looked up uncertainly at Madeline, then down at the needle. "Okay," she managed, putting on a brave face before closing her eyes tight. She even scrunched up her face with concentration, mouth turned down in a slight frown. Nobody really LIKED getting shots...

Children. Oh, how Madeline loved them so. Each child was so unique and different. Each had his or her own little quirks or ways the handled thing. Right now Madeline was finding Indigo down right darling and cute. What a charming girl. Even if Indigo wasn't so lady like and refined...she had a particular quality in her character which Madeline found endearing.

"You have been by far my best patient today," Those pearly brights of Madeline's almost seemed to cause a glare with the lighting. Yet, she couldn't help but smile. Today had truly been...well, demanding to save the least. "I guess it always ends up where the best is last..."

Hey, that hadn't even hurt all that much. "R-really?" Indigo asked, pausing a moment to swallow the quaver in her voice. She reached across her body with one of her lower arms, rubbing at her opposite forearm. "Oh...well, it's not your fault that we need to get shots! I dunno why anyone should be mean to you." She mustered up a bit of a smile, a definite difference from the scrunched expression earlier.

"'Sides, Mom says I'll get sick less, an' I really don't like getting sick."

"Mmn. " Madeline nodded her head. "Nobody does, and I don't particularly like to see my patients getting sick." What Madeline did next was a very unprofesional move, however, sometimes something out of the ordinary is needed. So, she gave Indigo a soft pat on the head. A little gesture to let the girl know that she had done well today.

"Now I'm afraid it is time for you to go." Kindly, she showed Jenner and Indigo the door. "Thank you for coming." Madeline smiled one last time as she shut the door.

"Phew..." The 'doctor' slouched and leaned against the door frame. Finally, it was over. With one last weary motion Madeline picked up her clip board and crossed Indigo off of her list. Would life always be this chaotic at D-corp?
