Jamal had spent a great deal of time in his duplex lately, feeling completely wiped out and unenthusiastic about a large number of things. Ever since his little trip to the white room at the labs, he hadn't been feeling like himself. He felt bitter, that was sure, but the normal anger and spark that he usually posessed was gone. It was hard for him to concentrate on much of anything and whenever he tried to do anything physical like weight lifting or playing basketball, he felt disoriented and weak. It made no sense; he had no idea what they had done to him, but they must have done something.
His appetite had been surpressed dramatically too, but even he still required a meal at least once a day, even if it was a small one. Jamal found himself in the cafeteria later in the day after a short jaunt in the jungle, eyeing up the platter of rare steak that the cooks had set out on the buffet.

Aside from planning mischief, gardening, and writing letters to Zach, things have been rather quiet for Kaveri. She had just gotten the seeds planted in the ground today, and so she decided that now would be a good time to get something to eat. Sure, what they were serving probably wasn't the healthiest, organic, or even not containing trace elements of some mind control chemical or something. However, food is food, and free food is even better.
She also eyes the buffet, but not at the meat that Jamal has his sights set on. Instead, her eyes wander over towards the vegetables and fruits, and decides to head towards the line and pick something up for herself. She does spot Jamal, though, turning her head to talk as she walks past him.
"The food looks good today, doesn't it?"

Jamal nearly jumped at the sound of her voice, having been so intently focused on his meal thanks to his tiger's instincts, and had to bite his tongue to keep from shouting. Man, he was really off...normally he would have caught her entrance into the cafeteria first thing. He growled to himself and slapped a hand down on the nearest plate, trying to shrug off his edgy behavior.
"Yeah, it looks a'ight," he grumbled without looking at her. "I'd ********' kill fo' a goddamn plate a'chinese though. They always got da same s**t in herr." As he spoke, he started to pile slabs of particularly raw steak onto his plate, intentionally taking the pinkest of the bunch.
The black man wasn't feeling particularly sociable today, but then again, he hadn't felt that way since he'd been put on this rock and learned what was going to happen. That combined with his violent tendancies left him alone for most of the day and he wasn't too much bothered by it. Despite that, he decided to make an effort to at least talk to this new woman...maybe she'd be interested in joining forces with him in trying to come up with a way to overthrow the doctors.

"I'll say, man," Kaveri nodded in agreement. "I really just want to take some of this stuff home and try stir-frying it or something."
She starts to pick at the selection of fruits and vegetables, pulling out a couple of carrots, an apple, and a tofu sandwich and neatly arranging it on her plate. "As much as I enjoy free food, I like it better when I make it myself."
The fact that they serve uncooked, raw meat actually irks Kaveri a little bit, but then again, she really can't blame anyone for doing so when there seem to be a number of people here that are part-predator (or injected with multiple predators). Still, that's so unsanitary!
Shrugging off the thought, Kaveri motions towards a table, picking up her tray. "Hey man, you wanna sit with me?"

"I can't cook fo' s**t, so I'm stuck wit' eating what they got out," said Jamal with another grumble, his voice matching the unenthused look of his face. "Not dat ev'rythin' they make is bad....jus' usually not what I want when I come in."
A glance at her plate made him wrinkle his nose subconciously; that hardly looked like a decent meal with all those veggies. It struck him as an odd choice when there were so many delicious meat dishes out, but then he remembered that Joli ate the same way...or had, anyway.
Jamal picked up his partially cooked steak-piled plate after throwing a baked potato on the pile as a second-thought, then turned to choose a place to sit. He was going to retreat to the very corner of the room, but Kaveri's voice interrupted with an invitation to sit with her. Truthfully, he'd rather -not- sit with her, but he surpressed the urge to say so and instead gave a slight shrug and a fangy smirk.
"Ya must not heard'a me yet," he said, his tone dripping with dark amusement as he poured himself a glass of juice. "Usually ma reputation don't do me no favors in meetin' new people."
Regardless, he headed for the table she had waved to and put his tray down, flopping down into a seat shortly after.

"I'm personally wondering if the food is as genetically modified as we all here are," Kaveri says jokingly, "but I haven't run into a carrot that barks yet so that's probably a good sign."
"Can't say I've heard much of anyone here except for those ********' doctor assholes," the red-skinned woman remarks, "or some cokehead who rapes people or something. They were talking about some people at the beach bar a couple nights ago - but I mostly ignored the conversation because I didn't know those people."
"Reputation means very little to me anyhow," she shrugs with a grin, sitting down at the table. "Unless you're a doctor, then I already know that I'm not gonna bother with second chances or introductions. By the way, I'm Kaveri." She takes a large bite out of her apple, resting her elbow on the tabletop.

Jamal seemed pretty disinterested in the conversation at first, focusing instead on tearing apart his steak with a fork and knife, then jamming a few pieces into his maw with his fingers. He didn't seem to keen on manners as he continued to use his hands to manipulate his food; the knife he had used to chop up the steak was later tucked into the waistband of his jeans.
The mention of the doctors made the black man narrow his eyes sharply and pause in mid-chew, giving the woman an appraising glare in silence as he shoveled another nugget of pink steak into his mouth, then swallowed without chewing it. As much as he hated to even hear the doctors mentioned, it worked in her favor that she seemed displeased with them.
"Ya gonna hear lots 'bout them ********' docs wit' all da s**t they be doin' ta people lately," he snapped bitterly before licking steak juice from his fingers. "Half da island peeps gonna tell ya dat they ain't so bad 'n' the otha' half want 'em all dead. Me? I wouldn't mind gettin' ma claws back in dat red-haired b***h's neck again 'n' finishin' what I started." He chuckled at that, lips curling into a sneer momentarily before he sighed and lost that brief glimmer of sadistic glee. "Da name's Jamal....I'm da b*****d dat most of da island don't like or is afraid of."

Kaveri, being particularly observant, watches Jamal eat and later tuck the knife away. She's kind of curious, but decides it's in her favor not to ask about it and attempt making with some conversation.
"I haven't heard much so far, but I can pretty much conclude that they're all a bunch of ********' assholes," she slams her fist on the table. "Trapping all of these people here on some lonely ******** island, and they just lay back and take it all!"
"How the ******** can anyone say these bastards 'ain't so bad'?! They're ******** idiots! Yeah, they ain't so bad. They ain't so bad they just drag you here under a blanket of lies and then do this kind of s**t to you," the woman snarls, curling her lip with disgust. "I haven't even met those ******** and I want to see them try to defend themselves from their own creations... without the shock collar thing or whatever it is they put on us to keep us from fighting."
Apparently, this man has actually met one of the doctors. He must be filled with even more hatred than she was!
"You're Jamal? Nice to meet you, man," Kaveri bobs her head. She then squints at the comment about everyone being afraid of him or not liking him, tilting her head with curiosity and looking the man up and down. "Wait, wait. Why is everyone afraid of you? Is it because of your reputation, or something else..?"

Jamal looked pleased at her obvious distaste for the doctors and leaned forward, elbows on either side of his plate as he rested his chin against his intertwined hands. Kaveri was doing wonderfully at getting on his good side whether she knew it or not.
"All they do is lie ta people," he said icily as he stared at the woman with his innately intense glare that was doubly sharp thanks to the felinesque nature of his eye structure. "They threw all of us outta our duplexes fo' like two months jus' ta run some ********' experiment...we had ta hunt s**t 'n' sleep in da jungle..peeps got hurt 'n' they didn't care none." Normally even the THOUGHT of what sent him into a blind rage, but still the emotion refused to surface, leaving him feeling only slightly irritated. "There be peeps on dis island dat LIKE staff...like dat Ambrose ******** Lauren. Some islanders ain't big on da staff, but they ain't hating like I do."
Jamal unclasped his hands and stabbed a hunk of steak onto the tip of a claw, waving it in front of his face as though drawing attention to it. "They kin ******** all us up wit' claws 'n' teeth, but they're too ********' scared of us ta treat us like da humans we are now. It's easier ta jus' knock us out then be reminded what sorta s**t they started wit' this science bullshit."
Kaveri's last question did not receive an immediate answer; rather, he became extremely absorbed in his meal for several moments before he cast a suspicious look back at her.
"Well, let's jus' say I ain't da nicest ********' ta mess wit'," he said darkly, his tone very serious. "'N' I don't take well ta' bein' ******** 'round wit. I almost killed onna da staff peeps at da beach 'n' they stuck ma black a** in a cage in the middle o' da village fo a few days. Ever since dat...well..." He let that hang, not really wanting to talk about the aftereffects.

"They ********' lied to me," Kaveri chimes in indigantly, "I guess they did to everyone. They told me this was a ********' commune where I could live without getting chased from my home by the cops. There are no cops here, but it's a hell of a lot worse."
She listens to Jamal talk about the jungle experiment, hanging on to every word. When he was over, she opened her mouth to speak. "You're ******** kidding me -- they actually did that to people? You don't do that s**t! I still don't get what's the ******** point of these animal injections, how is this supposed to benefit any of us? They obviously have some smarts to know how to do this in the first place and probably wouldn't be able to get away with this s**t in the States -- but they could have done something so much more worthwhile than this bullshit!"
"How the hell can anyone like these ********? I just... fail to see the reasoning behind that! Are they trying to get on their good side and hope they get released or something?" Kaveri asks, wildly gesticulating as she gets into one of her tirades.
"Those are exactly my thoughts. It's pretty obvious they don't want us to realize our full potential as human beings, despite this animal crap. If you're going to ******** with nature, be prepared to deal with the consequences, you know?" Kaveri is rattling her mouth too much to give her food much attention, although she finally finishes off the apple and sets the core aside.
She silences herself again when Jamal takes a very stern tone. "********' bastards. I can't blame you for what you did, if given the opportunity I'd knock those ******** in the teeth or break their fingers so they can't work anymore."
Her mouth gapes open. "...and they put you in a cage? What the ******** is wrong with these people?! You're human just like me!"
Then she remembered what Zach had told her days before. Her voice lowers. "Now I remember. I was told a little about how someone was put in a cage a few days ago for trying to attack a doctor. That was you?" She bites her lip -- he had certainly looked rather uncomfortable, and was hesitant to ask for more information about the situation.
"At least you're out now, but holy crap. What a bunch of dicks."

"They do lie ta ev'ryone. I was runnin' from da cops...fo...reasons...'n' they told me dat I could come herr 'n' they'd neva find me. Yeah...well, I'd take da ********' prison time ova' dis s**t sometimes." He glowered at that and steered away from -that- topic. That wasn't something he felt like discussing with a stranger.
"They don't care 'bout us. It's all 'bout their experiments...don't be fooled by dat Aubrey b***h. She acts like she gives a ******** but when it come down to it, she's jus' as bad as dat Moreau guy." Jamal pushed his mostly empty plate away and crossed his arms on the table, again leaning forward.
The further inquiry about the cage made him visibly bristle and he acquired a hard expression, the tips of his fangs visible against his bottom lip as he stared blatantly at Kaveri.
"Who's goin' 'round talkin' 'bout me?" he asked sharply. "n' yeah, it -was- me. I ain't heard of no one else tryin' ta kill staff o' islanders 'n' bein' stuck in a cage." The latter was added in a "and I dare you to not believe it" sort of tone. "It ain't ma fault they stuck me wit' an animal dat wants ta tear s**t up all da time."
Though...it wasn't just the tiger that made him how he was. It was certainly helped by his human tendancies.

"So there's even a doctor who's good at putting on a public face for everyone else," Kaveri notes, nodding. "Kinda figured they had someone like that."
She almost shrinks away when Jamal bristles - he does look very fierce, but she doesn't back down or otherwise show that she feels a little uneasy. She wasn't sure if she wanted to tell him about her chat with Zach. "They weren't saying bad things about you -- it was something I overheard at the beach bar. I forget who mentioned it. They were actually really disgusted with how badly you were treated," she says in attempt to calm the man down, "and it disgusts me, as well. I really can't blame ya for being angry about it."
Probing her mind for something to change the subject, she leans over the table and lowers her voice to a barely-audible whisper. "Hey, I thought of a way to get back at these doctors without having to fight or deal with the shock collars," she says, then glances suspiciously from side to side. "But since they're spying on us with cameras or some s**t, we gotta be really secretive about talking about it so they don't know my plan. You wanna hear about it and maybe try it?"

"Hmm," he grunted, sounding unsatisfied with the answer, his glare boring intensely into her eyes as he tried to decide if she was lying to him or not. He was slightly pacified that she mentioned them not saying anything bad about him, but still...there were only a few people who could get away with talking about him with Jamal not caring too much. His claws tapped a steady rhythm on the table top a moment before he pulled that hand into a fist and rested it on the table.
However, his irritation was short-lived as the woman spoke of her devious plotting, immediately switching the gears in his mind from suspicion to a calculating curiousity. "Oh really?" drawled the black man, his whiskers fanning out as he relaxed a little. "I'm up fo' gettin' back at these ******** however I can..."

"Excellent," Kaveri says with a rumbling chuckle, steepling her fingers. "The more people I get involved in this, the better."
"Alright," she begins, cupping both hands around her mouth and leaning further over the table, "the point of this thing is to completely drive the doctors ********' nuts. Basically, we write letters to each other. Any kind of bullshit, jibberish, made-up code language... but they mean nothing. They have no reason, it's just a bunch of s**t. However, we all act like these letters are extremely important, and purposefully act suspicious when delivering the letters to each other."
She continues, "Eventually, the doctors are gonna wanna know what the ******** is up. They'll probably take the letters, and try to figure out what they mean. They will waste their time trying to decipher the meaning of our shitty nonsensical letters, thinking there's some deep secret escape plan hidden within all of them. They will go apeshit as they keep trying to find stuff out, and we'll keep on writing them."
A devious smirk crosses her face, and she knits her fingers together and sets them on the table. "It's not much, but it's sure to distract the hell out of them and just... cause a bit of trouble and ******** with them in ways that they can't zap us for."
Leaning back, she raises her voice to speaking level again and folds her arms across her chest. "So, are you in?"

Jamal listened carefully, fingers soon taking another drumming roll on the table top as he did so, his expression unchanging throughout her explaination until the end.
Truthfully, it sounded like a waste of time, BUT the chance that it could distract the doctors somewhat was a plus...then maybe some real damage could be inflicted while they were trying to figure out what was going on. Jamal had written in code before back when he had his drug ring, so it wasn't something he hadn't ever done.
"Don't sound dat hard," he commented nonchalantly, fisting his hand again and leaning back now against the chair. "I figger I kin do it easy enough."
He had been hoping more pain and torture would have been involved, but there was always time for that. At least he knew now where Kaveri stood in regards to the staff.
