Ianna was pacing back and forth in the wand shop, her eyes heavy. Definitely tired - but she couldn't very well sleep. It had been a long day trying to find a wand - in pitch blackness - in the UNDERDARK - yet she couldn't sleep.
And she was cranky. Not a very good combination.
Finally she collapsed onto her stool and glared at the skull which was impaled on the black wand, "I hate you, you know that little wand? You put me through hell. You're going to put your guardian through hell too, I can already tell that," she laughed then and plopped her head on the desk.
She didn't mean it. But she was going half mad.
Damned Underdark did that to her. She hadn't been quite so upset getting the Drow - at least with that wand Matilda had BEEN there. But meeting that squid with Matilda deciding to stay well enough away? Well, that didn't make her very happy.
"I hope they come get you soon, little wand."

Not for the first time, Kyo found herself completely and utterly lost. Maybe she really should have taken her spastic, adopted son when he'd asked... But that really would have been selfish of her to do, seeing as now he had to take care of two kids of his own. One arm jutting out to the side to press the dirty wall of the nearby building, to support her for the moment as she felt a sudden wave of nostalgia.
She'd undoubtedly fallen asleep on her path through the city, and had wandered the streets in some sort of daze quite similar to sleep-walking. It was the only explanation- she'd never been down this road before that she could recall. And yet... she did know it.
Her feet dragged a few steps before she finally picked them up, allowing her to travel down the sidewalk without having to trip over one of the numerous cracks etching their way through the old concrete. Where had she been going in the first place? Her mind was a smudge at the moment, slowly beginning to make sense of itself.
She'd call someone, most likely Ebony. The woman had naught to do at her office most of the times, and Talis was most likely busy. She just had to find some little, out of the way place that would allow her to use their phone.
The wand-shop was quaint, but odd. It caught her eye even though it was across the street. Again, the nostalgia. She must have seen it in her dreams, those of which she only remembered a sixth of. It was the only other explanation.
Well, there was a woman inside, from what she could read from this far away, though Ianna came in the form of a dark, gray fraction of light rather than a silhouette. Unease, exhaustion, and slowly dwindling health. Not a great person to interact with at this moment, but Kyo was more or less used to bad attitudes.
After almost being run over from her sluggish way of crossing the street, her fingers curled around the shop's door-handle and opened it. The way she entered so silently, she could have been easily ignored.
"Excuse me..." A murmur. She had a bad habit of mumbling. "By chance, would you have a..." The features of her pale face faltered for a moment as she laid eyes on the wand on the desk. What the...? What was this place? She seemed to have forgotten that she hadn't finished her question, for she was rather absorbed in taking in the shop and then, finally, the wand.

Ianna's silver haired head raised as she looked at the woman from behind those glasses of hers - which were currently slipping down the bridge of her nose in the most annoying fashion.
A hand raised to brush the unruly locks from her face and she sat up, dusting herself off. The familiar ping inside her head told her that this, indeed, was a guardian. Goodie!
Wand-thing would be going bye bye!...Until the woman came back with it as a child or wisp or ghost or...Sigh. She'd never be rid of it.
"Hello, Welcome to Ghosts of the Past," Ianna parroted in a most unamused voice, "Yes we have a phone, Kyo. You can use it if you wish."
Ianna smiled a little bit. The woman hadn't finished her question, but at least Matilda was giving her a little bit of fun. It was the least she deserved, wasn't it? After all, she was pretty much Matilda's monkey whenever Matilda needed her.
The woman leaned against the desk again, head propped up by her knuckles, "Why're you wandering about so late, anyway?"

Kyo lifted her eyes to Ianna as her name was clearly. Well, that confirmed it. Her expression remained slack, though, as if it wasn't uncommon to know someone's name even though they had never met previously. Well, it was no amazing feat to be informed of another before-hand. She didn't have to even reach out to be able to tell this one was of no real psionic power.
She moved closer at the mention of a phone, halting a few steps before the desk. Her own hair, long and black, was now beginning to curtain over her eyes unattractively, but it didn't seem to bother her enough yet to clear it away.
"Thank you." She said softly, nodding. "Why? I thought maybe you'd know...?"

Ianna raised a brow, "I know part of the reason, but besides that I honestly have no clue." her voice was soft as she shifted behind her desk, dragging her large book out and placing it on the desk.
"Will you do me the favor of looking at this, please?"
No explanation, no other words. A simple request and nothing more - so it would seem until Kyo actually touched the book.
The minute Kyo would touch the book, the cover would fly open, an invisible wind winding through the pages and blowing them rapidly open until it landed, quite suddenly, on a well-worn page. On the page was a very dark sketch of the wand currently sitting on Ianna's desk.
Under the picture read:
"Underdark. Wand ID 00022. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,
Matilda."
"Congratulations, you're a mother!"

"I...see." She didn't, but she said so anyways. She had a feeling she'd find out soon enough.
An odd request, surely. The dark blue eyes had rested on Ianna for a moment before the woman behind them willed her body to lurch forward. Placing her pale fingers upon the book disturbed the shackles on her wrists, the thick metal hitting the cover. The teacher seemed to get a jolt at that, fingers curling inwards so the magic working the book could carry itself out without hinderance.
She hadn't finished reading the note before Ianna had congratulate her, but she had smiled softly, regardless. "Ah... Again." But it was no bitter tone, just one that seemed to be holding back a yawn. She slept all the time, but she never got any rest.
She reached for the wand, to claim that which she had been chosen for, but as soon as she wrapped her hand around the thing, she convulsed. Quickly snatching back her hand, Kyo took a step back, watching the wand with slightly widened eyes. Her shoulders were shaking ever so slightly beneath her coat, and it seemed as if she might faint. Then, suddenly, she stopped, gripping her hands together and blinking what looked like a thin film over her eyes away.
"What... what is it?" She asked quietly, slowly slipping her hands into one of the pockets of her jacket.

Ianna seemed to be rather happy with the fact the new guardian took the assignment well. Several of them had almost killed her.
"It's a mind flayer." she stated simply, leaning back in her chair. With their reputation, it wasn't a far stretch that she thought Kyo may freak and refuse to take it. Ianna had almost left it to die herself.
Giving a shrug of her shoulders, she offered a bright smile to the woman, "I wish you the best of luck with the brain sucking thing, I really do. Though, it probably won't be doing that this time around. They did die unjustly. Well, follow me, I'll show you the headquarters."
She stood up from the desk and started towards the door, "You are coming, right?"

No, luckily for Ianna, Kyo was far too mellow to react violently even if she hadn't liked what was being given to her. Walk into a random shop on the way to find a phone? No, that wasn't random at all... Finding out that the shop hands out children bottled up in wands?
But hey, she'd seen a spider the size of a quarter shed its skin and come out an average-sized, human child. She'd seen babies as big as her palm crawl out of a venus fly-trap and ivy. She was done being skeptical about was possible and wasn't and, as a philosopher, she never really had been. And now someone was telling her that there was another child for her to raise and it was coming from this.. wand? She was too tired to argue.
And it looked like something she'd be fitted with- skulls and squid-like monsters. Eh. She'd take care of it, be it humanoid or that horrific vision she'd received by touching the black material.
She glanced to Ianna as she pulled a pair of dark gloves, slowly nodding an affirmative. Wand in hand, she almost seemed to drift to Ianna. In all honesty, she didn't know what a Mind Flayer really was, but she now had a clear picture of the beast in his head and it refused to budge. Well, let's see the headquarters.
"There'll be no brain-sucking in my house..." She mummered softly. "We have carpeting now." Ha ha... Wait. She was kidding, right?

She opened the door and stepped through, figuring the woman would follow through as well.
As they entered the main lobby Via the portal connecting the shoppe and the headquarters, the first thing noticable was the vast...largeness...of it. The high ceilings, edged with gold, the large chandeliers dripping with crystals, the smooth white tile-floors, colorful rugs, and beautiful paintings.
To the left was a large recreational area complete with a large flat-screen television, several rows of various games, movies, video game systems and books. There was a basket of toys in the corner, full of plushies, dolls, cards and various other objects which would appeal to most ages. Included in the area were several comfy looking couches and plush chairs just made for sitting, lounging or bouncing in. It seemed to be heaven on a fluffy carpet. It even had a foos-ball table and an air-hockey table....and for the slightly more food-minded GoTP, a mini fridge always full.
To the right was a large elaborate counter, which seemed to have a force-field of some sort around it, keeping anyone who was not Ianna or Matilda from going behind it. On the counter lay a roster with the names of all the Ghostly children and their guardians, and an appointment book.
From there, it branched off into halls with rows and rows of rooms. Some were storage, some were guest rooms, some were bathrooms, and one very large and ornate door to the end of the hall led to the gardens. "Welcome to Headquarters. You're welcome here at any time. There are usually many more guardians creeping about, but it's abnormally quiet today."

"I see..." But she was hardly listening, absorbing in the surroundings she knew she would most likely forget come time to come back. Her hand unconsciously gripped the wand, which hung limply at her side. The grey, mist-like substance forming at one corner of her eye prompted her to slowly turn to Ianna.
"I want to thank you for getting this... wand. I know you went through a good bit of trouble to retrieve it." How did she know, really? How could she? Ianna hadn't said a thing. "And when it grows, I will be sure to inform the child of that deed."
She covered her mouth, swallowing a yawn. "Really though, if you won't think it rude of me, I need a phone. I need to tell one of my elder children I got lost again.."

Ianna pointed towards the phone on the large reception desk against one of the walls, "The phone's there, go ahead and use it. The door is there, for when you need to leave again. I should go check on my daughter..."
She trailed off before turning off and going down the hall. Kyo could find her own way out, and if she didn't know how to use a phone, Ianna was going to be severely worried.
