Although I usually hate saying I have a favorite genre, I won't deny that I love all the shoegaze that I've heard. Even the post-shoegaze with metal influence.
What is shoegaze? It's basically a genre that started in the late 80s with My Bloody Valentine. It's characterized by a muddy guitar distortion and no lead guitar. Usually two rhythm guitars. Vocals are subdued and often incomprehensible. In other words, it's fantastic zone-out music!
Shoegaze bands:
My Bloody Valentine Slowdive Ride The Jesus and Mary Chain Smashing Pumpkins (around Siamese Dream) M83 COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS [jp] Plastic Tree [jp] (more recently, post-shoegaze influenced)
Basically, if you know of more Shoegaze bands, have questions or comments or discussion topics, please do post. biggrin

Mmmm, Slowdive. mrgreen
You might want to check out these bands as well:
- The Collingwood (f'n excellent!) - The Curtain Society - The Moon Seven Times - Space Team Electra
Some of the more chill tracks by Macha and Run On come close to a sort of shoegazer droney-ness, too.
