Its a style of music, although in recent times it has become a stereotype for a certain type of person.

..Switchblade Saint... Its a style of music, although in recent times it has become a stereotype for a certain type of person. that is what i have mostly heard from people. and what i keep telling people is that it is a genre of music that carries its own genre.

now adays it has turned into a style...but whatever i onc found this really good definition of it on urban dicionary, but they took it down...they still have some good ones on there, most most of em are the fake ones...emo is basically what you want it to be...i guess.

Devils_Pet A music style. But peopel are now saying that boys or girls that wear tight clothes, have hair over their eyes, wear eyeliner, and cut are emos...but whatever. stare most people are inconsiderate jerks who think that it is ok to make fun of someone that dresses differently. i mean i don't dress "emo" i dress like how i feel for that day like if i am depressed i wear a striped shirt. happy i wear cut off girl shorts. normal tight pants and a bleeding star shirt.

From what i understand of the emo steriotype, its new and has sorta branched from goth, at least it has in my town. The emo's think the goth are being the same as each other and want to be different so some of them changed but now they're all the same O_o they both pretty much stand for the same things but end up hating each other a lot, but thats just my town. Everyones quite harsh with emos over here, just a few weeks ago some drunk guy threw piss over 2 emo girls. People have problems with them, but i don't see any reason why they should, people should be allowed to dress as they like, listen to what they like, do what they like to a certain extent. Emo has also been linked with self harming recently, which is bullshit. emo has been around for a couple of years, self harming has been around for thousands.

i was a 2nd wave emo kid a fe wyears back . no tight pants. no textured hair . no eyeliner. Emo is along with post hardcore genres of music that had decidely chosen to ignore theor punk rock roots in the exploration of socially acceptable sounds and mediocre airplay. Many make the mistake of calling fans of emo emos. whenin reality they are emo kids. just like when peopel choos eto say punker.. instead of punkrocker. or just punk.
sorry for bad grammar. I fail at it.

i keep hearing emo is a musical style but it isnt its a lyrical style the music is all over the place bands generaly conciderd emo (sunny day real estate, weezer, jimmy eat world, atreyu, fall out boy) sound nothing alike and have almost nothing to do with each other exempting lyrical bases and the fact that a few year ago no one knew who any of them were
and its true that is has become the stereotype of a subculture, in fact the word has become associated with two emo(weezer) and scene(atreyu)
thats all i can think of right now but when i think of more ill be back

i have to say this cause it kills me deep down inside...but fall out boy is NOT emo i hate that, it drives me absolutely crazy...panic! at the disco is more emo than fall out boy, but only because of their lyrics, but in reality panic! at the disco is a dance type of punk with a few emo lyrics here and there. yes everyband is emo in their own way, even if it is slipknot, but we don't call slipknot emo because they arn't the hardcore version of emo, and fall out boy isn't that hard core version of emo either
sorry to start a rant, but i hate hate so bad.
