does any one do a sport? like tennis, soocer, football? if you do how do you train?
i do karate, training for it i usually do the following: V-sits, lie on back make V with your body(think its a yoga thing) hold naginata at arms length and at right angles to forearm(improves muscles in forearm and arm)(3-5kg most weigh at bladed end, not easy as it sounds) shadow boxing(increases speed of punches) flicking bandana/towel(increases speed and timing of pull back after a punch) weight, lift at arms length in front or at sides two hands(works back and shoulders weights lift one hand to side only, (works core muscles used for balance) hold leg out in kicking position(works muscles in leg) most of them can be done while watching tv, pretty simple stuff
bicycles, reverse crunches, leg raises(vertical/horizontal), sit-ups, sit-ups with weights(work abdomin) body arc-lie on back arc body till only head and feet on ground and arc shape formed (works neck/shoulder/back) low stances(puts most weight on legs meaning your kicks improve) punching with weights(strengthens muscles used in punching) taking a low stance is pretty damn hard for extended period, if you alternate the abdomin work out you can generally go for longer, best thing bout body arc is you can read manga after a while(always put padding under head)
hit forearms off each other(forearms become used to the pain making it less sore to block kicks/strikes) hit shins with object(makes kicks such as round house less sore) hit door frame with elbow(improves elbow strike)(p.s i dont do it anymore cos i can hear the wood crack sweatdrop ) possibly not the best practises as it can do damage to you.
now i can drive i will take more classes in karate which teach more bout throws, might take up BJJ or judo.
hopefully should be getting makiwara board(wooden board with slight padding for punching) i have focus mits and strike shield for when i have a partner to help me, i try to show off but still not really strong enough to...nya)

I've been doing aikido (japanese self defense) for about a year now. Our training format is defensive, the techniques i learn deal with: punches sword strikes knife strikes hand strikes from any direction. we train with wooden bokhens, jo saff and tanto before dealing with real weapons. Our class is an hour long - i go three times a week. We start with a 15 minute warm up, where we practice ukame (rolls, back rolls, generally training how to fall safely without hurting ourselves) then we do Keon dosa - a series of moves, like ti chi, which form the basis of all moves i learn. the rest of the lesson is learning grading techniques.. ^ ^ any questions?

does aikido incorporate breathing exercises? and do you meditate during class?
when you practise against the above techniques(against punch/knife) do you commit to punch or move with opponent?
