I personally feel sorry for the Phantom.

Cristine flirted with him during Music of the Night, then went off and got engaged. She led him on in a way.

I also feel as though he is a hypocrite. He says that Raoul is shallow, then he tells Cristine that he fell in love with her when he first heard her sing.

Just my opinion.

What do you think?

I think it's hard to get a scope on the characters really.
All but the Phantom come across as a bit 2-D.

I think the Phantom is like a spoiled child, Raoul is stuck in a fairyland where the prince rescues the princess from the evil, and Christine is just an indecisive child.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Raoul: Thick, spoiled, naive
Christine: Naive, spoiled, inexperienced
Erik: Depraved, arrogant, naive

Um... they all do suffer from naivety complexes, if you think about it.

Raoul seems too much like a pretty boy, although I do think that he has been through some stuff, otherwise he wouldn't be a decent fighter.

Raoul: spoiled, pretty boy, fop, too wrapped up in ideals
Christine: indesicive, naive, innocent, child-like, lives in a bubble
Erik: arrogant, ruthless, obbsessive, stubborn, thinks he can do whatever he feels like

On a scale of 1 - 10, Erik's a 7, Christine's a 5, Raoul's 4 1/2.

Erik? A tad homicidal, arrogent, ruthless, and he's all 'omgz! Nobody look at my awful face!!!;

Raoul? He obviously loves Christene, he's concerned for her, pretty spoiled, but he's still cute nonetheless.

Christene? Way too naieve, childish, and well...naieve.

Carlotta? Miss Priss.

Managers? They seem to be more concerned with the profits (at least Firmin), inexperienced, but still downright funny.

The characters are slightly different when it comes to the novel vs. the movie. But based on the movie

Christine: She is definitely in awe whenever the Phantom is in her presense. I do think she loves him, because she shows a lot of compassion toward him. She doesnt want to commit to him because of his "distorted soul". She is on the naive side.

Roul: He does love Christine, and he is charming and all, but you can tell he doesn't have the effect on Christine that the phantom has. He gets her at the end because he has less problems and issues, and he rubs this in her face a little to tear her away from the phantom. "let me be your freedom, let me be your light.."

Phantom: He is more of a tragic lover, because he loves Christine with such passion that he is willing to hold it against her will. He does have a lot of issues againt humans, but deep down he just wants to be normal.

Now in the book things are a little different:

Christine: she's a bit of a wimp in my opinion and is scared to death of Erik. I don't really think she loves him, she is just drawn to him. So basically she's an indecisive child.

Roul: He really worships christine, and is afraid that Erik will take her away from him forever. But he's pretty much the same.

Erik: Erik is a little more extreme here. He seems darker because he sleeps in a coffin, and he's more violent (he pulls christine's hair..not nice!) And yet at the same time he's more devoted..he wants to die with christine and he says that he is "nothing more than a poor dog ready to die for her"

Overall the characters are pretty complex. Especialy our adored Erik. heart

Christine: Young innocent, not very intellegent, but hey, the girl probably hadn't known what she had gotten into. I like Christine.

Erik- I think that Erik is simply living in his own little world. But you gotta love him. He had faced many horrors, and I think that altogether he came out ok. I kinda feel sorry for him, I mean, it's not really his fault, and I comltley agree, I do think she led him on. Alot. BUt maybe he was to expectant.
Raoul: Baby. Living in a perfect worls. Then along comes Phantom and Boo hoo you just have to fall in love with Christine. But then again, he really loved her, so I'll give the boy a little credit. smile

For shame, someone called Raoul a fop. I might have to revoke someone's phan card and cut out a tongue or two for ignorance.

Christine: Confused, naive, good-hearted, purportedly innocent, and trapped in a situation she does not know how to handle.

Raoul: Headstrong young man who is confused through no fault of his own, sick with love, a jealous lover, and willing to go to the ends of the earth as long as he knows she loves him.

Erik: A jealous, amoral, childish man who cannot take 'no' for an answer; who puts others into danger to suit his whims, whose determination is marked with his own deluded obsessions.

The mains

Christine is... innocent, undecided, scared, loving
Erik is... obsessive, talented, OH DANG I DON'T KNOW A WORD FOR THIS!!! (someone who doesn't completely know what's good and what's bad), desperate, intimidating
Raoul is... popular, nice, skeptical

So at a first glance, people would usually choose Raoul over Erik. After discovering Erik's miseries, they would pity him and choose him instead.

I think that
Christine:
Kinda a whore and wants 2 guys to fight over her
Raoul:
Pretty boy wants what seems hardest and most mysterious
Erik:
HOMICIDAL, He doesn't like people getting in his way of what he wants. He just wants to have what he desires and he doesn't care about what others want very much.
