Points on each diet

The link informs you about each Diet, and of its benifits and pitfals.

You'll notice although Vegetarians have more bad points ( I tend to disagree as I dont have any)
We also have the most good points.
I showed my dad this link, he's the one that tryed to get me to eat meat again for years, but now he's becomeing a vegetarian too!

Ok every point thye brought up against a vegitarian/vegan diet was utter bullshit

# Iron - Dark green veggies have tons of iron along with lots of other veggis and fruit. You would have to have a really bad diet to become iron deficent....one of the worst arguments next to the protein argument

# Vitamin B12 is produced in you gut by microflora out of other B complex viutamins...also nutritional yeast (Vegan mac and cheese) has alot. Soymilk and cerals are also fortified with B12...if you arnt getting enough B12 then you must not be eating at all

calcium - Soymilk is a far better calcium source than cow milk because of its lower protein levels (protein leechs calcium from the body) lots of veggis, beans, and nuts have calcium too

# Vitamin D Get your a** outdoors!!! thats right vitamin D is produced by your skin in sunlight! also in cerals and soymilk

# Amino-acid balance and protein content - this one is easy...DONT EAT JUST JUNK FOOD!...eat beans, nuts, veggis and fruit and you will have all the amino acids you need....remeber too much protein is bad for you

# Minerals - FRUITS AND VEGGIS DUH!

I agree with Soymilk Gun. That was bullshit.

Anyone could be lacking nutrients...

Hell, what about meat eaters who consider a serving of fries to be a serving of vegetables?

I mean fried potatoes sure have a ton of iron in them... not.

Last time I went to donate blood my iron count was higher then any of the people I personally talked to, despite the fact that I am vegetarain (though at the time not as strict as I am now, since I basically have given up dairy. We'll see next blood donation June 5th^^) and despite the fact that I drink a SHITLOAD of coffee. ONE serving of Farina, which even I dont considr that big a breakfast and I eat little in the morning, has 50% of your daily requirment. Green veggies like brocolli have tons. Chickpeas/falfel/hummus have tons. Fortified cereals and soymilk, etc etc etc. It's NOT that hard, man.

It sorta annoys me that people ALWAYS assume vegetarians/vegans dont get enough iron when it's just not true. I have weird shuddering/shaking issues sometimes and people who know I'm vegetarian like to say I'm aenimic because of it, and it's like, uh, no.

This link seeem geared to discourageing vegitarians, the meat portion of the bad points is compressed and they seemed to forget that some of the "bad points" on vegitarian can be bad points on any diet.
Many teenagers suffer from vitiman D defiency and do eat meat.

"Meat is a good source of protein, iron, B-group vitamins, and calories"
Its definiately not a good source of calories.Meat has almost no calories, this entire article sounds unresearched or uneducated.

Unresearched and uneducated? First look up what a calorie is then go find a package of meat and read the label where it tells you the calories and calories from fat. Between the carbos, proteins, and fat in meat I would say it has plenty of calories. Read your food labels.

So which is healthier?
A well-balanced diet of either kind is good for you.

^They don't seem geared to discourage any type of diet as long as it is well balanced. It's a short article, of course they left out a lot of pros and cons of each diet.

Most the calories you would find in meat products come from the oils that they are cooked and the other ingrediants.

Still meat is protein and saturated fat. Saturated fat is not a " good source of... ...calories"

You mean fats not oils right? Oils are usually from plants.
Meat is rich in other fats that are good for the body, it just depends on how lean and clean the meat is. Omega-3s and lauric acid are saturated fats that are good for you in moderation but can be also supplied by coconut milk/oil and maybe other stuff. I am not arguing with you if meat/ saturated fat is a good source of calories. It is not. In general, fat calories should not exceed (if I remember right) 30-35% of the total calories. Healthy is about 15%. Staying away from trans fat / saturated fat is a good thing. Saturated fat can raise your LDL cholesterol and lead to some problems. Its the monounsaturated fats you should get the most fat calories from. You get calories from carbs, proteins, alcohol, aswell as fat.

You said there are almost no calories in meat and that is false. Why do you think the processed foods from Mc.ds is so bad for you? It's all meat packed full of empty calories (foods that contain little to no vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber) that get sucked up by the body in like 2 seconds. And yes fat has more calories per gram then alcohols, proteins, and carbs if that's what you are trying to get at. Which means meat is full of cals.

Yeah I agree, the 'bad points' they listed for vegetarian are only problems in an un-balanced diet, where all you eat is junk food. Any diet.

Seriously, to have these vitamin and mineral problems, you'd have to eat nothing but iceburg lettuce and plain potatoes.

One of my best friends has a serious iron-deficiency, and she eats a TON of meat. @_@

I've had low iron, too, but it was because I wasn't eating well, period. Not due to being veggie, it was due to being stupid. X3

"Women and young girls who eat little meat, poultry and fish or who turn completely vegetarian are particularly at risk of running down the body's iron reserves and experiencing symptoms of deficiency."

Meat is a "high energy density" food. Vegetables and fruits are "low energy density" foods. Google exists rickoise. I suggest you use it before stubbornly asserting your opinion.

"However merely being exposed to sunlight does not automatically mean that vitamin D is produced, only the UVB in sunlight triggers vitamin D production, but UVB mainly reaches ground level when the sun is high in the sky. This occurs a few hours around solar midday (1 pm summertime). At higher latitudes, the sun is only high enough in the sky in summer. For example, in the United States, those living north of a line from San Francisco to Philadelphia (about 40 degrees of latitude) will not be able to produce it in significant quantities for 3 to 6 months a year."

All i can say is that humans weren't ment to eat meat, why do you think we have to cook it? All other carnivors can eat meat raw, if we humans eat meat raw we get sick.

Also if you're a veg, you gotta make sure that you're eating right to get all of the nessesary nutreints that you need, a lot of determination when you live in todays society of fast food.
