HEY, THERE IS SOMETHING TO BE THOUGHT ABOUT... I NOTICE A LOT OF YOU USE 'DESU' AS YOUR ENDING COPULA INSTEAD OF 'DA'... EXACTLY HOW COMMONLY USED IS 'DESU' OVER 'DA'??? IS ONE FORMAL AND THE OTHER NOT OR WHA...??? HEH HEH... I ALWAYS USE 'DA'... Interestingly enough, you must always use short form ( desu being a long form and da being a short from, etc) when writing a proper report or thesis. Lots of words like soiufuni and takusan are also considered inappropriate for writing. On the other hand, if you go around saying ore da (its me) when talking or answering the phone, I will give you thirty wacks with with a wet noodle...I`m looking at you Doumanagi wink

Konbanwa minasan! Hajimemashite. I am sort of new, too, but I hope to be on here more learning Japanese! My understanding of desu vs. da was that desu was formal (talking to elders or strangers), and da was informal (ie: talking to good friends).
