I was reading some kind of review about the Rakdos and the author said that he found it Ironic that to use the Hellbent machanic to its full effect one must construct the deck carfully to specifically use the mechanic, or something like that it was really late at night and the artical had a lot of words
Mark Rosewater (if I remembered correctly) said that it was ironic how Rakdos builds will require immense thought when building comes to the board. It contradicts the guilds storyline/background, though, seeing as how the Cult of Rakdos is all about acting before you think.
The irony is a sweet one, I might say. An unthinking cult with a complex thinking co-ordinator (being the deckbuilder, of course). Jagged Poppets, too, help out the Rakdos. I mean, a 3/4 for 3 ain't too bad (gotta love idiomatic expressions). Plus, he'll help keep your hand drained, and if he gets through, theirs too.
As far as Hellbent cards go, the most powerful must be:
- Rakdos Pit Dragon
- Infernal Tutor
- Anthem of the Rakdos
Some may not agree with the last, but it's all about strategy. You attack with a whole load of creatures, they all get +2/+0 and ping you for 1 (at that time). Then, when combat damage is resolving, if it's useful, you play Ignoray Bliss. Hellbent on the Anthem triggers, and you're creatures do double damage, without double-damaginc you.
The Dragon and Tutor are pretty much self-explanatory.
