For those of you who have a Last.fm account, here's a technique I use to make really great mix CDs.
After you're had the account for a month or two, go over your page and see what the top songs you've been listening to are. Then add those songs from top to bottom in a CD burning program until you've filled up a CD. Order the tracks around as you like, burn the CD, voila -- perfect mix for you, since it's what you've been most listening to!
Then you can reset the account and start all over and make another great mix in a month or two (or maybe in a few weeks if you listen to a lot of music).
Here was my mix for March 2006:
Yoko Kanno - Shinzukana Seikatsu
Bebel Gilberto - All Around (Telefon Tel Aviv mix)
Richard Devine - Sigstop
Kschzt - Mnipla
Ice Cream Creatures - Some Kind Of Optimism
AFX - Pwsteal.Ldpinch.D
Aeroc - Blue Eyed Bitter
Herb Alpert - Rise
Chromeo - Needy Girl
Squarepusher - Venus No. 17 (acid mix)
L'Usine - The Stop
Ochre - Brancaster Coast
L'Altra - There Is No
Air - You Make It Easy
Boards Of Canada - Into The Rainbow Vein
Cranberries - Linger
