Howdy! My current campaign is one which involves a necromancer ithillich by the name of Sazareth. He wants to control the globe through the use of six powerfull gems. They themselves aeren't powerfull, but they allow a necromancer to control vast amounts of undead, armies even. He plans to create an undead army and march it across the land, burning and pillaging the area. This is set in the forgotten realms campaign setting. that's about the gist of it, So far, the characters have left the chultan peninsula, traveled on a boat, had it explode and sink right before they reached Myratma bay and paddled to shore on a rowboat using their swords. and other gear. (the adventurers are around lvl 4, there's a cleric, a fighter/lurk (Cpsi), and a hexblade (cpwar)) I was wondering if you guys had any ideas, ways to take this, I plan to have these people take a riverboat to the Snowflake mountains and cross them. Ideas for encounters and the like are appreciated, as are general directions for this place to go. if you don't have a map to faerun, here's a link: faerun! if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. oh, for the link, click on the sections to enlarge them!

Herrrm, well you could make so that one of the PCs finds a piece of jewelry, that has a nice magical effect. The jewel on the piece can actually be one of the six and that would be a great reason to have consistant conflicts with the villain.
You could do an elemental theme with the stones. One is in a bright place. One in a dark place. One in a volcano, below the sea, up in the air(guarded by Avariel Elves), and one deep in the earth. They good could hear somewhere that they need to activate seals to keep them from being stolen, or collect them themselves.
I know that I had one campaign where a dancing god had taken a powerful artifact. I took out my DDR pad and made them dance for it. ( I just happen to be a sick DM.><)

Oh also, if the PCs are going to fins the gems, make sure they can't use them to build an army of thier own,(unless you play with evil powergamers like I do.><)

Perhaps you could require that the PCs get all the gems by making the gems indestructable without all six present to be destroyed at once. Perhaps the villain could even get his hands on a couple, thus making it prudent to invade some of his striongholds for the gems. anyway, vergy good idea here

Also, yes, the players could get one which could be the target of several theft attempts. Thanks! the DDR thing sounds a bit sadistic though xd Keep the idea train flowing! those two are definitely going into the campaign.

Got a new idea, One of the gems ( going with the jewelry Idea) is on the neck of a countess in the rgion they are in. This opens up quite an interesting diplomacy/espionage mission. It could be a good change of pace in a combat-heavy adventure.^^

Have an overlord controling each gem in any senerio. They have to be a certain level before they can even think about it and then that forces them to go in a corect order. Hint at the highest overlord and let them work their way up to it.

Hello, i just joined, but i have an idea.
If you make it so that each gem was created by different races among the world. IE, Elves, Humans, Orcs, Etc etc. this way once he has all six gems he can use them to do his whole undead mass control. But i recommend that the necromancer uses humans to also do his dirty work like assassins. A good idea to think about too is that the gems are just located any where, Even in a dirt ditch in the middle of the woods that was droped by a person by not knowing, Heck even maybe in the middle of the ocean. A Fun way to also incorporate them is that the elven gem is locked in a secret hidden temple of *insert random elf god here* to prevent them from having the gem.
Alot of these are just random ideas but you can expand on them in any way.

Mayhap one is being guarded by a clandestine clerical order and the group must complete some "tasks" for the order before they can even SEE the gem. Either they can do it, or attempt a thievery of it. Good luck.
I've seen an alhoon's evil at work before and I must say, I was impressed.

Perhaps one of the gems is in possesion of an affulent merchant who doesn't realize what he has? The PCs could try and make a deal to get it, maybe even barting their serviices and favors for it if they'd rather not simply pay for it.
You could complicate things further by having the alhoon's agents loacting the merchant soon after the PCs...or just before.
