Anybody listened to this? It's pretty bizarre...I like a lot of it but I think that's mostly due to the fact that a) I have a soft-spot for alternate realities which this makes me think of and b) I love RENT any way I can get it. xd
I've got to admit, some of the original versions of the songs are AWFUL (the original "Rent" makes me want cry and or break things and let's not even talk about "Right Brain" the precursor to "One Song Glory"!) but there are some that aren't bad (I lovelovelove "Tango: Maureen" to pieces, but "You'll Get Over It" is pretty hilarious).
I really love "He Says" because I'm a sucker for anything that delves into Mark and Roger's friendship and because of the line "one day i'll/he'll fix that car she left me/him and fly", which is pretty much Roger in a nutshell.
And there's the fact that everybody besides Anthony and Daphne were re-cast.
Discuss? Anyone?

Any lines/songs you guys think should've stayed?
The first one I thought of was in Finale B, instead of Roger's "Yes...oh God...find a candle" Mark says "Wait, I"ll sell the camera" and it BREAKS MY HEART.
The camera's an obvious symbol of Mark's detachment and I really see that line as his offer to finally break down the walls he's built around himself and start living by "no day but today". Finally realizing that he has to interact and enjoy being with his friends while they're still there rather than obsessing over capturing their linkesses for when they're gone.
Any others? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I haven't listened to the NYTW for a long time. Okay. I hated the Roger in that. He sounded sleepy and he annoyed me most of the time. I thought the whole thing lacked energy.
Favorite songs from there though are "Do A Little Business" (Because I think it's just so funny how Benny is so different in how he acts on the NYTW than what it is now), "He Says" (I just like it because), "I'll Cover You" (I really like the transition from instrumental to the voice. You know how it goes dun dun dun dun dun dun then climatic intro then singing), and "You'll Get Over It" (I just found it so cute. Even though Mark is a perverted horny guy in this song)
Hated songs: "Right Brain" (I'm so glad Jonathan Larson changed the lyrics to this into One Song Glory. 'through her thighs into the sea' ick.), mainly any song that Roger sings.

New York Theatre Workshop!Benny kind of...freaks me out? (Maybe I just love Taye Diggs too much...naw. Not possible. heart ) But he doesn't seem like someone who once lived with them. He sounds so old...not like he could've once been dancing on tables and living without heat.
