AI NO KUSABI
The 12th planet of Glan galaxy, Amoi, was originally a place for fugitives until a group of scientists, biochemists and computer engineers came to explore and decided to build a computerized city, Tanagura, on this planet. This group of people built a giant computer, Jupiter, on the center of Tanagura and humanized it with characteristic so it would not just memorize and calculate like ordinary computers, but also could learn as humans. However, this intelligence accidentally allowed Jupiter to gain consciousness and to seize power from human beings. Thus the era of "Jupiter" started.
Under Jupiter's control, people are divided into various ranks based on their hair colors. The hair color of a person is decided by "breeding center." Among different hair colors, the highest status is silver hair. Other people are also split into different groups: blue, green and red hair, depend on their working skills or functions. The ones who have the position as silver haired people but also have the privilege to contact directly with Jupiter are golden haired, and mostly are androids, who are generally called "Blondies." These androids are created with balanced proportional body lines, beautiful faces and their IQ is over 300. They are physically completed "men," but not "males," which means they are unproductive. Among the elites, Iason Mink is the pivot.(In other words, he's the leader)
The lowest of low is black haired ones, who live in Keres which is the slum of Tanagura. People there do not have citizen IDs and the laws are not applied to them. They spend most of their time doing nothing but drinking "Stout."
Another great deal made in Ai no Kusabi is that the ratio between male and female is not equally balanced. The population of male is much greater than population of female, no matter in higher ranks or in slum. The reason of this phenomanon is unknown, but a little hint from the book suggests that it's easier for elites to control the "quality" of every human being.
